  • GIBSON ;D

  • If you think Nightwish's flawless cover was a piece of shit, then yeah you're obviously "a nut for older style tunes". Damn hipsters...

  • RIP.. What a big loss for the world of music :( :(

  • one m0:00re time ;)

  • DAT SOLO

  • a very underrated guitarist and songwriter, been listening to him since I was a teenager living in Italy. First Moore track I have heard was The Loner, blew my mind away, still does. From which Irish traditional tune is the beginning from? I love Irish music too

  • Great track :) I really love the original version, this one... But damn! Listenning to this I just can't help but think that this track begged to have a Symphonic Metal cover. Just listen to all the stuff going on in this track. It just had to be done :P

  • shit

  • To be honest, I love Nightwish, I love Moore, and on this song there are differences, but I really can't see much of a difference aside from Moore's more folk sound, and Nightwish's symphonic metal sound.

  • Great song! :D

  • absolutely pucca

  • Thyrfing and this are the best ones.

  • esta version es mas rokera, al fin y al cabo es la original, me gusta mas (:

  • Much better than Nightwish version.

  • *-*

  • Once listened to the Nightwish version I wanted to hear the original one. Exactly the same, even in the musical parts.

    They're so awesome!

Can't say which one I prefer, both are so good!

Thank you Moore for this song...

  • I miss you master Moore T.T. please come back!! now he is over the hills and far away

  • Just found out Gary's been dead for months, dunno how I missed it. Very depressing.

  • rip one of the bestxx

  • i think he looks like an old version of jim morrison

same hair and same rebellious facial expression

  • @CrashEddie7 that's what I thought when I first saw him too haha

  • Versions: Gary Moore > Thyrfing > Nightwish

  • I like Nightwish's version better overall because THAT version brought out the intent of this song. It has the symphonic metal sound elements written in it. I guess you could say that this song was a victim of being in the eighties. Like "Danger Zone" (Top Gun) It has that sound.

Either way, I like this version still. I thought it was going to sound worse, but it still has those little things in it I liked that made it up in the first place. :D

  • @gredangeo The intent? What are you talking about? This song has a very strong Irish theme like many of Gary's other songs. Nightwish completely ignored this for their cover so you are totally wrong.

  • @bobokk That's why it's called a cover. Supposed to be different. They made it to suit their sound, it's not a tribute. Second if you are referring to the Irish sound as that 12/8 "skipping" time feel They are the same. Both songs have a lot in common. They just put a symphonic metal genre twist to it.

  • @gredangeo No I'm not referring to that. The melodies all throughout this song are based in Irish/Gaelic music (the part from 2:27 being the most obvious example). If you can't hear that then you should educate yourself more.

  • @bobokk That part is what I'm talking about. We just said the same thing, what are you on? lol!

  • @gredangeo Time signatures and melodies are not the same thing

  • he stole the name from led zeppelin's song

  • @hugokid1 There's a traditional English folk song called "Over the Hills and Far Away", dating back to at least the 1600s. It's completely different from Led Zeppelin and Gary Moore's songs, but both were probably inspired by it in some way.

  • @hugokid1 Led Zeppelin steals from EVERYBODY... So no Big Deal.

  • @DonRMB AMEN! :)

  • I can't decide which version is better. You know what? Screw it, they both equally rock!

  • Pretty cool!

  • You know what would have been better than either this version or Nightwish's version?

    A Gary Moore/Tarja duet.

Although the universe might have exploded from the sheer awesome, so maybe it's just as well.

  • gary's voice sounds a lot like Paul Stanley, would you agree?

  • Nightwish is better

  • @TheMilicaKg

Nope. The original is the best. Although the Nightwish one was pretty good. :D

  • RIP Gary Moore, you are over the hills and far away now but you will live in forever in our soul \m/

  • I love this version (by the way, Thin Lizzy is one of my fav bands) and I hate Nightwish version. I hate that squealing of Tarja...

  • @oldrichflorian Squealing?! >:o ARE YOU CRAZY????

  • @EMMH96 I hate Tarja's voice. It is like squealing. It doesn't fit into metal. I hate it.

  • @oldrichflorian It fits into GOTHIC metal!!! :/

  • @oldrichflorian Okay, saying that you don't like Nightwish's symphonic power metal is one thing, but saying that a TRAINED OPERA SINGER'S VOICE is like squealing? Please.

  • @gamerlayne No, you are completely wrong. I like opera voices, but compared to really good opera singers is Tarja nothing. Tarja's voice is much overrated.

  • Nightwish made a great cover, but this is awesome.

  • my god!! just heard this version the first time , never knew it was a cover.... its FRIGGIN AWESOME!!! I love it!!! His voice completes it, now the song makes a lot of sense!!!! The guitar is too 'folkloristic" to be made by nightwish, and the lyrics now make sense!!!! WOW its amazing!! thanks for uploading :)

Oh and about the Friggin comments im seeing, why don't you idiots just stop comparing... they're both good... that's why they're both famous.

  • night wishes cover sounds crap after listening to this !

  • compared to nightwish's version i must admit i prefer this one but the guy could have atleast smiled for his photo on his album, no one wants to buy an album with the picture of a scottish guy who has the face of a slapped arse

  • @km900100 naw i think your wrong, otherwise this song whould not be so darn popular.

  • @km900100 He's Irish, dipshit. And nightwish don't smile in all of their promo photos either.

  • @km900100 He's Irish. Not Scottish.

  • @MrSoapywater1 Northern Irish actually. :-)

  • @brottarnacke Like it really matters

  • They are different, I like both. Maybe, Nightwish is a bit better;)

  • Amazing!

  • hey all..

i am gonna do a cover of this great song, as a tribute to the god of guitar, Gary Moore(Rip) i will do this original instead of the nightwish version(like all guitarists do). it took me a lot of time to figure the solo, but all the time was worth it. thank you all and pls check out my channel. gary rocks!

  • @khudayer when you figure it out dont suppose you could tab it out on U-G lol. i would love to learn it but my hearing sucks :P

  • 2011 THUMBS AND HANDS UP HERE !!!!

  • both versions are epic. 'Nuff Said.

  • i first heard the nightwish-version and then my brother told me that this was the original. i think the nightwish-version is pretty good , this one just has more edge to it^^ so plz people don t argue, just enjoy the music, i m sure thats what gary had in mind when he wrote this^^

  • i am a nightwish fan i like this version just aswell yes i know some of us dont like the nightwish cover but comments to yourselves

  • RIP Gary!

  • Just realized something horrible... the protagonist probably failed to protect his lover.

If his pistol was planted after a robbery, someone probably framed him. His friend must have found out, and having been betrayed so thoroughly, was thirsty for revenge. So even though he refused to give an alibi, the friend must know.

  • i like both versions, although i heard nightwish's first, so i like them a little bit more,

i also like how tarja makes it sound like a story, which might just be me

  • i'm a metalmaniac since i was born and i like gary moore AND YOU WILL NEVER HEAR SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN Y QUE VIVA MEXICO CABRONES FUCK YEAHH.........

  • Q PASADA D CANCIONNNNNN!!!!!!!

    M ENCANTAAAAAAAA

  • Still kicks ass, awesome song incl. a legendary guitar solo...........

  • holy shit. i didn't know nightwish's was a cover.

    THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER

    WIN

  • Gotta say, I can't stand the Nightwish version compared to this. Not that it's a bad cover, I appreciate they did something different with it. Just not my taste.

Anyway, probably my favourite Gary Moore song. More Irish folk music should be played on the electric guitar. RIP Gary, keep rocking.

  • The Vikings er from Denmark!!

  • @Krelle27 ha ha ha ha ha ha... good... the vkgs from demark...

  • slate me if you must, this version is quite kick ass, but its a love song unless im wrong, and i feel that it sounds if a girls singing like nightwish

  • @EarleneCameronJ Why would I need that when I have Youtube? ;)

  • Both versions are good. Different but good. The way they are ment to be.

  • Wow, this version kicks...hard! I think Nightwish drums are a bit better, but MAN I need to listen to more Gary Moore

  • Rip Gary, Rip Phil. Always

  • we lost elvis and we also lost gary

but we thumbs up we still has acdc metallica nightwish lordi maiden and marilyn manson

  • Would'ja just look at that glorious mane. Lol,

  • @CoolKwstas123 Nightwish aren`t faggots, idiot! their version of this song is also great!

  • @gabe6550 I agree. It's a great song and I love both versions.

  • Holy mother! This song was released on my birth year but it's still great even it's very old compare to my country (Thai) new age rock bands (which is very popular). Damn, I'm realized how the "Thai Hardcore" and most Thai new age rock shitty is.

BTW, I'm not actually fan of this genre, I prefer power and viking/folk metal but this is one of the most cool song I've ever listened and I love it.

  • Sick of the kids that go around and say the faggots nightwish wrote this one. GARY IS THE MAN!!!! RIP!!(Return If Possible)

  • @CoolKwstas123 Most of them only ever heard the Nightwish version, and most people dont look songs up, give them a break, hell I thought Land of Confusion was written by Disturbed until I heard the origional, and just like this song, I love both. Chill out.

  • We all miss u GM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i like it....but i thought that Zeppelin Was the classic......but either way......awesome song.....i grew up to this song......both great songs

  • RIP man...

  • heard nightwish version first...no wonder its so good

  • ROCK IN PIECE GARY!

  • REST IN PIECE GARY!

  • im sure i heard this song once in a game, but i just cant remember which one...

    it drives me crazy

  • @gameduct 1 is neither Gary-Moore, nor Nightwish-Fanboy!

Both versions are great! Nightwish´s version of this song is one of my favourite songs of this band.

  • This version CRUUUSHES the Emo Wish version!

  • One less legend in the world... soon there won't be anyone left, and music will fall!

  • I would say - All variants are awesome... but well this one is just special for me :) God Bless :)

  • 1 is nightwish fanboy

  • Y'know what's cool? To have a fucking eargasm while listening a song for the 1st time. Man, this is epic.

  • Goodbye legend :( You were one of the best!!! Keep on rocking in heaven!!!

  • I first heard Nightwish`s version, and now this. I like both versions. In my opinion none is better than the other. They are both great!

  • Rest In peace

  • One of his best songs

  • I think that Gary Moore's video is more true to the lyrics of this song. I like the 3 versions of this tune on YT. (Nightwish, Moore and Thryfing). Could kid offspring to the curb for videotaping over my MTV videos from the 80's. Had some choice music collected!!

  • R.I.P. Gary Moore

  • this is better than Nigthwish

  • I'll be covering this with one of my bands soon for our St Patricks day gig :D this song is fantastic!

  • R.I.P.

  • nightwish is gay compared,

  • garry moore was beating up tarja turunen

  • @TheThanasis13 Lol anyone who beats up my future wife answers to me

  • @petek44875 I don't have anything with your wife but gary's moore edition is better :P

  • garry moore was beatingup tarja turunen

  • Yes this version is better than nightwish's but to call it a pos? No sir, completely incorrect. Tarja captured the essence of the song.

  • RIP Gary Moore

  • I like this version too , but Nightwish version is much better :O ... Tuomas's solo and Tarja's voice are the best ;) !

  • RIP Gary :/

  • R.I.P Gary

  • another sad day for rock n roll :(

  • One of my very favorite songs from the late Gary Moore. This song is composed in a very cool Irish key signature, love the composition, the lyrics, love the Irish violins and unison between Gary and the violin players before the main lead. Beautiful lead guitar on ouitro. Gary was beautiful guitar player... R.I.P. Gary Moore, may your Irish soul Rest In Peace...

  • R.I.P. Gary!

  • R.I.P. Gary Moore! I only just started listening to his stuff recently, what a legend!

  • RIP..A very big loss..

  • Rock in Perpetuity.

  • Nightwish was a good band... but Gary was the master....RIP mr Moore

  • Only knew the NW version, just heard Gary's now. It's pretty cool still i like NW better but hey he is the original maker of this song so i really respect him for that, really nice song ;)

  • RIP Gary. The world has lost a legend

  • @ProfoundExcuses sorry man but this legend will never be dead or be forgotten....although we wont see live concerts but this guy is immortal with his music!!!!!

  • Meh.

This version's pretty good; but, I honestly loved NW's version better.

Bite me for not agreeing with you, but I prefer Tarja's opera voice more than Gary's voice, here.

It's not a bad, but I still admire NW more, since I'm obviously a nut for operatic singing.

  • I don't know what's sadder: A woman singing this song on Nightwish's cover with about a minute of the song cut, or the fact that over 11mil hits have happened on that post while only 21K here.

  • Dobrze że skomponował tę piosenkę, przynajmniej Nightwish przerobił na lepszą ;)

  • @hasandil1 słaba prowokacja :)

  • it a classic kind of like omens- the axeman

  • what the hell does POS mean

  • @nightbreaker It means "Piece Of Shit".

  • hmm i love nightwish's version, but i also love this one! they are two completely different styles though so you cant really compare them.

  • weird, this solo is different than the one in the music video version.

  • @EpictheEpicest yeah i noticed that to. the solo in the music video is better i think

  • I love this song!

  • my fav part is when he says robbery. where he said " you stand accused of robbery" cuz he just like belts it out and it sounds so flippin cool

  • much better version that nightwish! they are just viking barbarians from the north they dont know how to rock

  • @superdjole11 maybe barbarians but finland has nothing to do with the vikings :D

  • @maledizione123 wasn't Indigenous people that lived in finland like indians? then the swedish barbarians came? sorry im not very good in finish history, but would like to know more :)

  • @maledizione123 All the Europe had to do with vikings. even Eurotechno.

  • @superdjole11 y u no understand metal?

  • Sounds like hes standing on mount everest and sings out about everythings happening around the world

  • very very good

  • THE DRUMS IS EPIC?!?!?!

  • @lolhaha869

is a machine no human drummer

  • nice really,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Ok you dont need to say it so loud ;)

  • lyrics are brilliant so easy to follow it tells a realy good story love the song

  • Cool song! xD

  • This song is just awsome. The original is always the best but I also love the Nightwish version aswell.

  • ....geeeeeettttttaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrr...
