Imagine if someone snapped and broke into that case and stomped that guitar to pieces before anyone came to stop them. They would probably go on trial for 1st degree murder.
At Christie’s auction in New York to benefit Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Centre rehabilitation facility. Lenny was purchased by Guitar Center, for $623,500!
Hmm...I saw one at a local shop the other day and thought the relicing didn't look very good. Like it was relic'd first and then coated in something. Didn't look truly natural.
Wow, that must've been quite the experience. I'm only 15 and the only reason I picked up guitar was because of Jimi, SRV, Frusciante, and Harrison. I was once lucky enough to see a Lenny Reproduction in a Guitar Center 15 feet above the check out counter in a glass case next to an Antigua Clapton Strat and a Dick Dale Stratocaster. I nearly cried when I saw it. Even though it wasn't the real deal. Wow, amazing.
For the money that thing costs it should be illegal to sell it. John Mayer has a guy working for him who was Stevie's gutiar and equipment manager and was in charge of taking care of the real version of that guitar and he said that the replica is exactly like the original. Funny nobody knows where the real one is.
Lenny became the only guitar from Stevie's estate to be made available to the public. At the historic June 24, 2004, Christies auction in New York to benefit Eric Claptons Crossroads Centre rehabilitation facility, Lenny was purchased by Guitar Center, for $623,500.
Was this the actual guitar or the Custom Shop Re-issue? I only ask because there's a similar video with "Number 1" displayed like this and I know that Jimmie Vaughan has it stored in a bank vault
As far as we know - the real deal! This exhibit was a special one time showing of some of the most coveted guitars in the world. It was put together by collectors/enthusiasts at the Dallas Guitar Show (2007).
