@Metafron I played FFXI for years apon year (First 7 years of games release actually) and I can truthfully say that the game isn't the same as what I fell in love with. They removed so much of the challenge I became attached to. They raised the level cap and everything I worked for almost became useless :\
@Metafron No, they extended the free trial for a long time. Months apon months of free play, until they felt the game had enough content for people who are just starting out. They also wanted to add some end game, since at release they didn't have any. They fixed a lot of the core problems with the game, but I would say the game is only around 60% of what it should be. I can't wait to see the game progress into one of the best MMORPGs to date :) 2.0 looks great!
@Metafron Also they are doing server merges soon! If you read the final fantasy xiv lodestone, they state that they are merging servers to make the community more tight for the release of version 2.0 and they also increased how many players can be on a server without it lagging with this update. I am on Besaid server at the moment, but you can check the topic for what server that will become, if you need any help :) I respond to all my comments I find appropriate to answer.
@Metafron Not a problem. Next patch advanced jobs are being release too! Paladin/Monk/Dragoon/White Mage/Black Mage etc. I for one can't wait! They also will be releasing AF (Artifact) armor sets for the classes! If you don't know what that is, just think FF1/FF3/FF5 with the job system. They have red mages in a red hat and cloak and a black mage looks like Vivi from 9 (Blue robe, brown top hat) Those are AF sets for specific classes :)

FFXIV atm isn't the greatest game, but a HUGE improvement since release. I know for a fact when Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 is released every FFXI fan will love FFXIV as much ^_^ Just be patient.

Around 140,000 people worldwide are still on FF11 Online (Odin and Bahamut being the most popular servers, followed by Asura. Odin being number 1 by a good 10%)
People will go to FF14 eventually, but not for a good year or so. The creators just added "Instances" and an "Auto attack Feature" in FF14, so it plays a lot like FF11
@takiri757 Can you still travel in chocobo and i boat too? I loved that in ffxi the boat didnt have any loading screen, it just took 10 minutes to get where you wanted.. That was a very nice feature.
@TonyBarta2 In FFXI the Boat and Chocobos are still there. In FFXIV Chocobos are not released yet, but they do have boats and you can teleport places.
@TonyBarta2 They take time, same as FFXI. FFXIV is very primitive right now, but no monthly bill. If you read the "Letter for the Producer" they do every other week, you will see they are working extremely hard to get it even better than FFXI, before charging per month like FFXI.
@TonyBarta2 You can make a topic on the forums/boards and ask for someones friend code to make an account. Then... you will just need a way to download it. So you can either use a friends disc.. or use a torrent site. Easiest way is to just buy it, it isn't too expensive. I suggest just waiting a month or two before buying it, as the auto attack feature is getting put in at the end of july, which will change the game forever.

not bad game was very good back then really fun compare to FFXIV, IT has alot more content then you think, but after 6 years of playing time comes to the end even game still alive. FFXIV was really graphic but still not compare to FFXI. So if people wanna play online Final fantasy games i suggest FFXI you will find it more fun then FFXIV.

@TheLkirkland They already have with FFXI, it will be no different with Final Fantasy XIV. You don't need a flashy 10+ million subs in order to be considered a great game or successful. As long as you have a fan base and a decent amount of people playing consistently, the game will flourish forever.
@takiri757 Actually, you need a good healthy playerbase to be able to keep up a MMO. They need money for both servers and a good team who constantly work on it. If the playerbase is not big enough, they will need to cut stuff, which means even less people will bother, and the game needs to be cut. This is what's been happening to about every MMO since WoW.
Square make(made?) perfectly good games, but they can't have it all. Blizzard holds the MMO world.

@legendaryplayer 200k subs is more than enough to keep a game running for ages. Look at DAOC, it ran for ages with only around 20k subs, once everyone quit. All they do is close some servers down and merge and it makes the game have a healthy player base and can continue to run for many years to come. And I disagree that only FF fans play it. I know many many MANY people that have never played a Final Fantasy.. except XI Online.
The game will continue to flourish as it has for 7.5 years.

@TheLkirkland You can go to the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone (Google it) for all your update needs. Final Fantasy XIV did start off very slow, in that the gameplay and story just wasn't up to par for a typical Final Fantasy. Square-Enix has since realized this and they have a new development team and the game is getting update after update and implementing things that are needed. Also, Final Fantasy XIV is currently Free-To-Play until they fix everything and they feel like it is a true FF.

This was the last hope for FF series. Such a great series of games. I'll never forget my first day in FFXI. My very first MMO. FFXIV is a disgrace, played for 2 months as top armorer and blacksmith, crafting and killing dodo's non-stop = not fun. So long Final Fantasy. Their only options are to remake the old FF's now with better graphics.

@yayoboy2000 Not at all! There were many bugs at release, don't get me wrong, but that was reviewed in the first week! Typically the bugs are worked out after the first month. They already fixed about 30% of the problems, and already working on the rest. The game is amazing! It just has some small flaws, which are already being fixed. Square-Enix never disappoints.

Ah, I will always remember my years in Vanadiel. I was playing before CoP came out, ages ago, my first server was titan but I took a break and made a new character on Hades. Since Hades got merged and I no longer have my character names I will never return. It was fun but they screwed up the combat system too much and made it nearly hilarious to see a dagger busting more damage than any two handed weapon. Truly it was a fun time and I will remember it, but I shall not return.
from what i have read about final fantasy 14 is square enix may make it where in final fantasy 14 its free to play online as well as there being a solo mode but this is what i have read no knowing for sure till the game itself comes out.

Afterwards, I just basically did quests and lvled up in a REALLY lonely world. It said there that it was average full, yet it was always lonely. Then I came back to FFXI for a while. @TheLkirkland They already have with FFXI, it will be no different with Final Fantasy XIV. You don't need a flashy 10+ million subs in order to be considered a great game or successful. As long as you have a fan base and a decent amount of people playing consistently, the game will flourish forever.

@takiri757 Actually, you need a good healthy playerbase to be able to keep up a MMO. They need money for both servers and a good team who constantly work on it. If the playerbase is not big enough, they will need to cut stuff, which means even less people will bother, and the game needs to be cut. This is what's been happening to about every MMO since WoW.
Square make(made?) perfectly good games, but they can't have it all. Blizzard holds the MMO world.

@legendaryplayer Except FFXI has never dropped below 200,000 subs at any time. Even now, with the release of FFXIV, they still have 214k subs.

@legendaryplayer 200k subs is more than enough to keep a game running for ages. Look at DAOC, it ran for ages with only around 20k subs, once everyone quit. All they do is close some servers down and merge and it makes the game have a healthy player base and can continue to run for many years to come. And I disagree that only FF fans play it. I know many many MANY people that have never played a Final Fantasy.. except XI Online.
The game will continue to flourish as it has for 7.5 years.

@legendaryplayer could you imagine what it could be if the super stars of MMORPGs could do if they combined into one game? highly unlikely, or impossible. But with FF story lines, combined with the Blizzard's resources for updates and smooth servers for games. It will be one hell of an online game. (i have not played FFXI but i am looking to buy now)

Never had a chance to play 11. And i saw the gameplay of 14 and omg it looks TERRIBLE i am really deciding to not get it. Another thing where can i go to see updates on the final fantasy games?

@TheLkirkland You can go to the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone (Google it) for all your update needs. Final Fantasy XIV did start off very slow, in that the gameplay and story just wasn't up to par for a typical Final Fantasy. Square-Enix has since realized this and they have a new development team and the game is getting update after update and implementing things that are needed. Also, Final Fantasy XIV is currently Free-To-Play until they fix everything and they feel like it is a true FF.

Haha yeah 89 from what i hear the main thing thatnearly killed ffxiv was the psyment system i herd from a guy who played it playonline was better. XD but im hopeing once its stable they make a xbox version my pc is broken and i dont own a ps3 yet so hopfuly they help the people who doubled there pop

FFXIV is getting an entire overhaul. Rumers state an auction house is on the way as is mail. Doesnt surpise me considering they pulled in the entire XI team into the mix after that biff. Congratulations now you know. FFXIV = to be epic. now that they pulled the team in, consider it FFXI 2. the development staff wouldnt have it any other way ^u^

This was the last hope for FF series. Such a great series of games. I'll never forget my first day in FFXI. My very first MMO. FFXIV is a disgrace, played for 2 months as top armorer and blacksmith, crafting and killing dodo's non-stop = not fun. So long Final Fantasy. Their only options are to remake the old FF's now with better graphics.

@Ydoc101lol Final Fantasy XIV wasn't bad as an individual game, but for a Final Fantasy, I can see why you are upset. For all those who feel like this, Final Fantasy XIV's original team was replaced by the Final Fantasy XI team and those who worked on FFXII and Dirge of Cerberus. It will be under new management and shouldn't disappoint. Square-Enix knows the fans are not happy, but soon will be corrected.

@vivi148 Well, that's not cool that you call me a troll because I was serious. I'd rather hear the major turning points from a real player rather than read lodestone. Something that matters the most to a fan. I love the Final Fantasy series and although the past 3 have been a little iffy, I have hope that some day down the line they'll make an FF in the series that closely resembles 1-11. Even 12 maybe.

its almost been a year from quitting, and the urge to go back is as strong as it was the day i left. only this game could do this to me. ive considered it almost once every 2 weeks to come back.. gawd 6 years was a good run but what makes me want to return. and with every video another memory, every song another stacked desire to return.

@yayoboy2000 Not at all! There were many bugs at release, don't get me wrong, but that was reviewed in the first week! Typically the bugs are worked out after the first month. They already fixed about 30% of the problems, and already working on the rest. The game is amazing! It just has some small flaws, which are already being fixed. Square-Enix never disappoints.

@yayoboy2000 Imagine a fast paced FFXI, everything everyone ever hoped for as a Final Fantasy fan. The reviewers reviewed it after 5 days... they are trash reviewers. Even IGN, the biggest name company for reviews, is waiting 1 month, or 30 days.

Ah, I will always remember my years in Vanadiel. I was playing before CoP came out, ages ago, my first server was titan but I took a break and made a new character on Hades. Since Hades got merged and I no longer have my character names I will never return. It was fun but they screwed up the combat system too much and made it nearly hilarious to see a dagger busting more damage than any two handed weapon. Truly it was a fun time and I will remember it, but I shall not return.

from what i have read about final fantasy 14 is square enix may make it where in final fantasy 14 its free to play online as well as there being a solo mode but this is what i have read no knowing for sure till the game itself comes out.

@cewolfen HAHAHAH yeah I know the feeling. i quit FFXI to take a break from it. Afterwards tried WoW as well, and I actually did get to meet some nice people. Afterwards, I just basically did quests and lvled up in a REALLY lonely world. It said there that it was average full, yet it was always lonely. Then I came back to FFXI for a while. Wish I could get back to my character lvl 68 monk. LONG LIVE San d'Oria!!!
