  • I remember this, haha. Still funny!

  • I moved into a flat with an old Trinny CRT (possibly 90s) and I think the electron gun has seen better days. It's been temperamental for the past year (flickering display), but generally responds to a few hard wallops.

I don't remember this ad, before my time (if just); is it just me, or have some advertisers today, ahem, "borrowed" quite heavily from it?

  • Oh wow! I haven't seen this since the 1980s and I've never forgotten it. I always wondered if it was by the same director who made the Talking Heads videos. One of those few ads that are really honest. My Gran had a Trinitron and it outlived her and then was given to my bro. I've own a 100Hz Trinitron and I imagine it will last for a long time to come. How did you manage to find a copy, from the advertising agency? Thanks for uploading this!

  • Mine died at 15 yrs old, because of the earthquake in chile, it lost the sound but it still displayed image!

  • Once you try a trinitron, you can't go bCk. They r just so awesome

  • I got a Sony Trinitron KV-1203 from 1976 I grabbed for $15 at a yard sale in 2006 - still going strong, and the BEST picture I've ever seen on a CRT television!

  • That must be a pretty durable sofa as well.

  • Does any body know if the Trinitron's from 1998-2002 qre HDMI compatible or not??

  • @Sprafikk Heck no. HDMI is only on HD televisions, and HD wasn't even thought of at that time.

Some Trinitrons from that era might have component video, but you can only use it with a 480i source.

  • @Sprafikk I doubt it.

  • Yeeeeaaaaaah ours just broke after eighteen years. Guess that's some good life, though. But I'm only 30. Not 96.

  • Looking for this one for ages! Nice one!

  • Mines from '95 and it's still going strong. 27" TV it's really heavy :/

  • Wow 25yrs ago i was sitting on that sofa. One of the Triplet babies. Ha ha.

Last time I saw the clip was in MGM studios Disneyland Florida. They wouldnt let us have a copy. It was produced by Sony in 1984. Wonder if we could do something like that again with our babies.

  • Awesome video. Keep on with that good work!

  • its very nice...but it makes me have a lot of nostalgia

  • I find this ad to be both funny and sad.

  • I believe this was 84 as that is when I first saw it when I lived in the UK.. I thought it was UK only? Great ad!

Anyone know the name of the tune? I'd like to get it for a similar project :P

  • @jmaytum - I don't know the title of the tune, nor who's playing it. It sounds a lot like Lindisfarne, though - the harmonica player has a very similar style to Ray Jackson.

  • still got my trinitron from 2001 without a prob

  • One of my favorites too. Thank you for posting!

  • My friend had a really good Trinitron that was quite unique from the others and i wanted it for a long time. it died just like that one time while i happened to be there. the fuse had blown. when replaced it blew again. they gave it to me, but i can't fix it. it is 2 pieces, unlike any other i've seen. (it has a stand). it's really sharp looking.

  • that was good.

  • Wow finally found this ad.Been looking 4 it all my life since i am one of the triplet babies in the ad itself (yey we're famous again)me Genna, Rachel and Rebecca (Harris) Can't believe it. I've been contacting sony also but they lost track of it somehow.

Did see it supprisingly, when my dad took us to MGM studios in Florida when i was 10, but they were unable to give us a copy. Now i'm 24 i can now put my search to bed. Thankyou.

  • 0:22 :)

  • when was released this ad?. I owned 3 trinitrons, The first one ( a 1543 model wooden box) was bought in '81 and last until 2002. The second was bought in '84 and was used about 15 years. The last one (a 21") was bought in '91 and remains in use. The average service time is 16 years.

  • my '77 KV1941R still works...

However I do use a VCR to keep it useful... I like it! Clear picture and a retro break-out-the-chrome-and-wood trim...

  • We just got a new LCD 52in Sony tv for my dads Bday and its the clearest picture you can get. It does make old movies look like plays though its wierd as hell.

  • Big-screen HDTVs can do that, because VHS tape is about 300i (as opposed to 1080p and other resolutions... Playing a VHS tape on a 1080p TV means the tape doesn't give even a third of the TV's max quality (as opposed to the standard-definition's 480i just being a bit fuzzy))

  • You have to think as well that VHS is the best animation since it uses fluent motion instead of pixels. The Tv changes the video to Hd so if you have an old movie that is in good condition if will look like a play. To this day the best Hd experience is from movie "Film" not moviefilms but the tape they use to make htem.

  • I still have one sony trinitron, and it still has an exelent quality, I'm looking foward to buy a sony bravia, unfortunatly theres no HD here in portugal

  • Sony USED to be the best, but now Sony Makes 120hz LCDs which make everything look fake, and Pioneer makes the BEST FLAT PANELS (Kuro Plasmas). I work at an electronics store and I see them everyday. I wish Sony still made Trinitron XBR CRTs because they were awesome.

  • Yes. I've still got an old 4:3 CRT Trinitron. I wish it would break as I really fancy a LCD TV.

  • sad.sometimes lasting toooo long is bad.sigh.

  • That was back when TV's actually lasted more than 2-3 years. I have a Trinitron VGA 15" for my computer and the cable's bent. 200SX, built in 96, just stopped working.

  • Trinitron. Designed to last till 2090...if we don't destroy the planet before then.

  • Trinitron. Designed to last till 2090...if we don't destroy the planet before then.

  • thanks for this. i've been searching youtube for ages hoping someone would post it. i know for definate it was on in 1985(i had myself until my dad wiped it)

  • without any doubt sony tvs are the best, my dad bought a trinitron back in 1983 and it still works perfectly (knock on wood). also sony tvs have the best image quality. if you guys want to buy a tv make sure it's sony, pay a little extra but it's worth it.

  • hell yeah sony tvs last forever i have one its 11 years old and still kicking l,ike new .and its the best looking tv in the house people have ask me to sell it to them.i still don,t let that sucker go ..lol

  • all these years I've been wondering where the little black baby fits into the scheme of things!

  • Ditto from me! I think it came out no later than 1980, as I'm sure that it was aired while I was still at school.

  • Thank you for posting this. I've been looking for it for years, even contacted the Sony company to see if I could get ahold of it. I was addicted to the thing when it was being aired. I think it first ran in the early 80s, if I recall, then again in the 90's for a short while.

  • Glad to be of service. It's always best to ask the advertising agency if you need to get hold of an ad. This is one of my favourite ads of all time. Lucky you.

  • This is brilliant! Do you happen to know what year this is from?
