the first cr 500's came with something crazy like 60 hp great for any application esspecaily the sand ... but for a supermoto the fuel issue would come in play in my opinion the only limits of a cr any year or any cc is it fuel capacity CR4Life

Honestly, the people bashing the cr500 against any Japanese 600-1000cc street-bike has obviously never rode one. Especially, one that has a super motard setup. I use to race professional motocross, my neighbor is Ricky Carmichael's cousin. I've seen many unique dirtbikes registered here in New Jersey which I have no Idea how some of them got ran through, including non-enduro 125's. I have a gsxr 750 and Ducati streetfighter, trust me it'll get you off the line. I Plan on building one myself.

KTM has a 990cc "adventure" bike. Personally, I think you'd have to be insane to take anythin that bike off road, but I think it technically counts.

That said, give me a CR500 or even a KX500 ANY day of the week.

i would say the aprilia sxv550 would give it a run for the money. stock it redlines at 120. you can drop the rear sprocket a few teeth and get around 10mph from what i hear.

Dirt Bike mag put a CR500 on a dyno and it put out 56hp. The Aprilia is 75hp stock. Test bike weighed 233. The SXV550 is 275. The Aprilia has a better power/ weight ratio. .27hp/lb for the 550 and .24 hp/lb for the CR. I've ridden a CR500, owned a KTM380 and nothing can compare to the Aprilia. Once you get it to about 6000. It acts like a two stroke. It can pull the front end up like nothing at 100. Thats my two cents.

an original cr500 is probably not faster , they are detuned so much .... but my tuned 500 will eat it allive

an sxv also has no "WOW factor" to it , its allot smoother
