HA HA .... the other day, one student gave her presentation.. She signed my name .......last name ...... I was like WTF STOP!!!! I am serious it drives me nuts!
Yeah, I was told by someone that it was started back then with teachers not being able to understand deaf students' fingerspelling so they had them sign first and last name separately and also sometimes interpreters cannot read fingerspelling too. Sigh..
Your niece is really cute, kids come up with cute signs. even today my kids still use a few of their baby signs. lol!!
Your vlog made me laugh about niece. She's cute. I didn't realize that deaf people criticize other deaf people who try to be a success and make money while they do not critiicize hearing people who make money. It make me feel little bit pissed about that. Everyone deserve to be a success and have a better life. Now I understand why I had to go through that situation. I will continue what I am doing now until I reach my goals. Good Vlog :)

Roby's example is why the "another" term "Deaf and Dumb" is still used even if in varying contexts. Last names are just tools facilitating small-world profiling in Deaf communities. ASL teachers aren't in the business of dictating exactly how we tell our names properly. Many possess a bad inferiority complex littered with power and ego struggles. Look at the ASLTA. What a mess. Deaf and hearing opportunists in print and electronic media are fleecing us. Most works are recycled. Shame on them!!!
