Look at Honda's best consumer sports car the S2000. 50/50 weight distribution, RWD, and to this day still the most powerful naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine in the world. Only came manual ;)
of course manual is better these days. automatic is more convenient. that's it. on manual you control the torque and power better since it won't shift when you don't intend to.
@palimad2 you can do that in an auto as well the only thing you cant do is dump the clutch which there are ways in an auto but i preferred not to do it in my truck

@Riot621 VTEC was the original and still to this day the best of the lot. Honda have made well over 15 million VTEC engines and not a single engine has gone wrong. amazing reliability.
@Larry3200 I never said that the engines weren't reliable, I'm just saying that VTEC isn't as amazing as some people make it out to be. It's a fancy camshaft with an extra sensor. It's reliable, it's great technology and has great applications, but 90% of the videos posted about might as well be captioned, "Look, my engine doesn't make power until 5k-6k RPM, but it sure does make neat noises!"
@Riot621 I'm a mechanic and know exactly what it is.. all I did was answer your question. Alot of people like hondas because they can make so much power with such little cubic capacity. Bottom line is, some people like hondas and some people don't. Hondas are driven all over the world however.

Then again, a lot of the Honda guys I've met in person haven't exactly made a good name for themselves...one guy kept wanting to race my Supra because, and I quote, "his Honda was DOHC." I don't dislike Hondas at all, I like a lot of the newer ones especially. My point is just that VTEC isn't God's gift to the overhead cam.

Most of my training as a mechanic came from the military, the only reason I didn't make a career out of cars was because other career paths were more lucrative, but anyway...I'll say this again, I think Honda has done great things with engines, but VTEC is just VTEC. And I know my Supra is overpriced, but I got a great deal and couldn't pass it up. I didn't pay nearly as much for my two VR-4's, my Celica, or my Tundra, though :P
@Riot621 There's some thrill to be had with a car that can rev to 8000 RPM, it doesn't have to be fast to be fun. Short of Hondas, and the toyota 2zz-ge's, there isn't much car you can buy in north america with that kind of redline.
@remytv This is true, the 2ZZ is a great engine. 3000GTs had a 7000 RPM redline, too, and those were all V6 engines. I wouldn't mind if my next car was a Lotus, those all still use the 2ZZ engine.
@uploaded113redone I used to own an RX-7 a few years ago, power to weight are used in performance mazdas too. They aren't unnecessarily heavy, like some cars.

@Riot621 VTEC was the original and still to this day the best of the lot. Honda have made well over 15 million VTEC engines and not a single engine has gone wrong. amazing reliability.

@Larry3200 I never said that the engines weren't reliable, I'm just saying that VTEC isn't as amazing as some people make it out to be. It's a fancy camshaft with an extra sensor. It's reliable, it's great technology and has great applications, but 90% of the videos posted about might as well be captioned, "Look, my engine doesn't make power until 5k-6k RPM, but it sure does make neat noises!"

@Riot621 I'm a mechanic and know exactly what it is.. all I did was answer your question. Alot of people like hondas because they can make so much power with such little cubic capacity. Bottom line is, some people like hondas and some people don't. Hondas are driven all over the world however.

@Larry3200 Not that I really had any questions to begin with, other than why VTEC was such a big deal (I'm also a mechanic). Then again, a lot of the Honda guys I've met in person haven't exactly made a good name for themselves...one guy kept wanting to race my Supra because, and I quote, "his Honda was DOHC." I don't dislike Hondas at all, I like a lot of the newer ones especially. My point is just that VTEC isn't God's gift to the overhead cam.

@Riot621 well the thing is that, just because you change your own oil...That doesn't make you a mechanic...another thing honda was One of the first to bring out variable valve timing and a stock four beater putting out 240 n/a?? I would have to say that's pretty impressive. So go take your overpriced vehicle and go pound sand down a rat hole :)

Most of my training as a mechanic came from the military, the only reason I didn't make a career out of cars was because other career paths were more lucrative, but anyway...I'll say this again, I think Honda has done great things with engines, but VTEC is just VTEC. And I know my Supra is overpriced, but I got a great deal and couldn't pass it up. I didn't pay nearly as much for my two VR-4's, my Celica, or my Tundra, though :P

@Riot621 There's some thrill to be had with a car that can rev to 8000 RPM, it doesn't have to be fast to be fun. Short of Hondas, and the toyota 2zz-ge's, there isn't much car you can buy in north america with that kind of redline.

@remytv This is true, the 2ZZ is a great engine. 3000GTs had a 7000 RPM redline, too, and those were all V6 engines. I wouldn't mind if my next car was a Lotus, those all still use the 2ZZ engine.

Putting out more Torque then an LS7 isn't that amazing, they aren't big blocks. Torque means nothing in a real race only who gets off the line faster not who wins it

@posvibration21 I agree....to a point, I love drag racing and it takes skill to pound a 700+hp domestic v8 down the straightaway for 9's but thats not all that makes a good vehicle. Lot's of other things take place however honda (aside from the nsx's) are jokes when it comes to racing in either the straight away's or twisties. You say that guy is a moron because he doesn't understand Honda, that's not the case, he just doesn't like it, neither do I but I can respect your opinion.
