  • Jens Pulver keeping it real

  • i have so much respect for jens pulver right now

  • Jens Pulver keeping it real.

  • tims a great guy? uhh no-- he's one big bragger who seems to think he's velasques or something. he's way too positively confident for his dismal mma record

  • It's amazing to me how easily it was for MMA to disown one of their own. Tim Silvia went five rounds with Sandy Couture, and has a career nearly with almost the same wins and losses.. yet, Sandy is considered one of the best. Ah Well. When James toney Lost to Sandy, i didn't turn my back on Toney.. I looked up his next fight and watched it in boxing.. and will look up his next fight and watch that one.. doesn't matter if you win or loose.. but you MMA fans disown TIm like it was nothing.

  • Wow, Jens was straight on with this one.

  • thats one badass tapout shirt

  • i love it, tim takes a fight with a boxer as a sparring bout. LMFAO You could jsut hear the fucking sarcasm in jens voice when he said that too.

  • Good guy.

  • prophetic

  • jens was a pro boxer. 4-0 before going to mma

  • Pulver knows his shit. People forget that after he fought in UFC he went to PrideFc for a while so he knows The World of MMA

  • pulver is the man.

  • jens a genius

  • saw ko clip b4 this. wow jens knew what he was talking about. marius is gonna retire sylvia in april or knock him down to regional promotions

  • Jens is a legend.

  • Sylvia is a washed up sack of S@*T who had no brains to agree to a boxing match with mercer. I'm happy about the result as maybe it'll mean the last we see of sylvia. This fight was in the top 10 most embarrasing moments in MMA in 2009.

  • @travvvvvvvvv It was not in the top ten of 2009, it was in the top 1 of all times.

  • i stand corrected.

  • and pulver was correct. I love Jens.

  • i for one am glad that 57,237 people have seen this interview lol...Jens is the man. And what the Fuck was tim sylvia thinking?

  • thank you!

  • Little Evil.

  • Jens pulver intelligent dude

  • It's like Jens could see the future on that one.

  • LOL!

    Right on, man.

But let's remember Jen was just talking about a boxing match at that point. It was changed to an mma bout right before the fight.

So I'm guessing after this Sylvia is not even going to try his first boxing match.

  • jens is a smart dude

  • lol even jens knew tim fighting ray was a bad idea. come on, even helen keller saw that shit coming. tim sylvia is an idiot.

  • tim sylvia is known for not having a chin i mean he hasnt been knocked out that much but hes still been knocked down by baby punches

  • @Tavarith and now he got knocked out by Mercer's murderous punch...

  • It is sad that Tim went into the Mercer bout to box... if he had stuck to repeated leg kicks until Mercer clinched with him, then dragged it to the ground, he would have made Mercer look as bad as Mercer ended up making him look. Oh well. Live and learn?

  • LOL but Tim Sylvia was preparing for Mercer in a boxing bout anyways from the beginning. So like if it was a boxing bout he would have got pwned hard anyways? What was his preparation that crappy anyways? lol

  • Never knew about Jens untill I saw the TUF he coached in. I must say I felt for him when all the fighter put there hand up to be on BJ Pens team. But Watching him in that show, I really warmed to him.

Just as others stated before, he called this fight bang on.

Also agree with having more interviews with Jens. Much better then some of the other MMA interviews I've seen.

  • wow, he sure did call it didnt he

  • jens is a smart dude. I'd like to hear more interviews with jens.

  • WOW Jens is a wise man he knew Tim Sylvia was going to get KTFO by an old man.

  • I don't understand why people always use records or ages to try and discredit a fighter despite his skill. At 80 years old Mercer will still have better hands than most mma fighters, power is the last thing to go. Striking in mma is still mostly garbage, that's why guys like big timmeh won titles by essentially just having long arms and jabbing the fuck out of people.

  • Ill second that.

  • lol 80 years old? Please tell me you're kidding

  • are u kidding?hes being sarcastic u dickward!!

  • eat a cuc

  • jens isnt stabbing anyone in the back. hes just saying it exactly how it is.

  • "True friends stab you in the front." ~Oscar Wilde

Jens is keeping it real. That's what a real friend does.

  • He sure does

  • This guy knows what he's talking about.

  • @bcibibcibcpCB he should have taken his own advice. 5 losses in a row?!?!

  • @fiishywiishy hes not the first person it has happened to... look up Mark Kerr ... both were at the top of there weight divisions at one time...

  • a very underrated fighter that did train with Sylvia, and Matt Hughes is Jens Pulver. What many people don't give him credit for, is giving BJ Penn his first loss, and Joe "Daddy" Stevenson. With that said, Sylvia still is, and always will be my favorite MMA fighter.

  • i like shitty fighters brah

  • hahaha

  • hahah he did find out real quick what mercer would do

  • sylvia is a joke now

arlovski is a joke now also.

  • If Arlovski is a joke, what the fuck does that make you? At that point, you're not even a punctuation mark. You can hardly even claim to be the white space between letters. In other words, shut the fuck up. You're nobody.

  • lol. are you a homo??? how does arlovskis cock taste like. look man, arlovski was amazing, same with sylvia. but now the are done. i rephrase my last post. they are not jokes, but they are done. do you agree with me?? or are you sucking too much cock??

  • I don't see where you came up with the homo thing. You must think about homosexuality a lot. I was talking about respect. By the way, one question mark does the trick, dumbass.

  • Great insight. I'd love to hear what Jens thinks of matches, be it MMA or boxing before putting some money on it.

  • timberrrrrrrrrrrr

  • much respect to Jens, he calls it how it is.

Will always be a fan of his.

  • Jens' voice reminds me off Matt Hughes

  • Surprised to hear an MMA guy giving boxers some respect. I wish there were more MMA guys like him.

  • Jens Pulver was a boxer first...

  • @denzelsnipes69 99% of all mma fighters give boxers all the respect in the world, almost all mma fighters are fans of boxing.its just the moron boxing people that think theyre gonna be able to get in the ring with a trained mma fighter and not get ko'd or get their arm ripped off. 8 or 9 times out of 10 a boxer will get his ass kicked.now if someone like mayweather trains jiu jitsu and muy thai for a couple years then an mma fighter is gonna have his hands full..

  • @denzelsnipes69 Are you fuckin kidding!?!?? Boxers are always disrespecting MMA.

  • @denzelsnipes69 : youtube search Frank shamrock on boxing.... Listen to what he has to say...

  • @denzelsnipes69 Randy Couture gives Boxing alot of props too.I've even seen him at Boxing events.

  • @denzelsnipes69 All MMA guys give boxers respect. When have they not? The only time someone from MMA will make a comment in relation to boxing is when boxers say that MMA requires no skill or talent, and that it's glorified street fighting. Then they will give a response. You have to understand, alot of MMA guys (especially Jens) have trained boxing, so they understand how hard it is physically and mentally to compete at a high level in boxing. I'm a fan of both sports. Love MMA, Love boxing.

  • @SeanOBriain respect bro. best comment ever.

  • @LtPrime Thanks man! :)

  • Great interview with jens...he always tells it like it is and never shys away from the truth

  • Comment removed

  • Can people just have respectful dialogue without resorting to childish insult's. Insults are the last stand of someone who has no argument. M.M.A is superior to boxing. That should be blatantly obvious to anyone who has even a little intelligence. When i was in brazil, russia, china,,korea ect.. every boxer that competed was DESTROYED !!!! in the first round. Seriously. every single one...

  • @annunnemesis . I can think of at least one mma guy destroyed by a boxer in a cage.....1st round (9 secs).

  • MMA is great... but so is boxing. MMA has a long way to go before it reaches boxings level.... it will make it.... quickly too... its just not there yet. There is too much money in boxing for top strikers to move to mma. Most mma fighters still hold full time jobs! That alone stops mma from reaching boxings level.

  • I don't get it. Of all the mma guys to box, Tim Sylvia is the last one. So many of his wins went to decision and it would go to decision largely because Tim was able to keep guys at bay with those looping leg kicks.

When Tim let guys in (Couture anyone?), they could knock him down with a punch. And he's slow. Of all the things to try, a boxing match? Damn, dude.

  • fucking A this is exactly what I've been trying to tell everyone

  • man jens nailed it right on wow.... I like how hes a mma fighter and respects what a boxer can do .. Like he said mma and boxing are to diffrent sports... Thats why i love the guy.... Dont get me wrong mma is bad ass but boxing is just as hard or harder..

  • Ekjudo, you are such a pathetic judo noob! It's an absolute FACT that juijitsu guys regularly enter judo tourneys and beat judo bitches at their own game! My friend started training judo, but after rolling with me decided he better learn juijitsu. So he crosstrained BJJ. He entered a city-wide local tourney, his first competition. He is only a yellow belt in judo & BJJ, but he got the silver medal ! The guy who beat him was a brown belt & outweighed him by approx 20 lbs. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!

  • Yeah, judo's as exciting as Tai Chi.

  • Well since you are talking facts, look up Mehdi... a Judo instructor from Brazil who trained with and instructed some of the gracies... even he says BJJ is Judo. All of the bjj techniques were around long before the gracies claimed them. BJJ is the groundwork of Judo. Marketing invented BJJ. Great art though....

  • very intelligent in was jens says

  • sylvia is jus afraid to fight in the mma anymore cuz he gets his ass kicked or a bone on his body breaks everytime now

  • Boxing and MMA are great...both combat sports kick ass...no MMA fighter is gonna box and reign supreme and vice versa...these sports are tha top combat sports in tha world...to disrespect either shows pure ignorance...u wouldn't expect Chad Dawson to lose a boxing match to GSP...then again in an MMA match it would be crazy to think he would defeat St Pierre...both fight around 170 and are Champions...to knock either of their respected sports would make u an obvious "HATER".

  • Tim Sylvia Got KOed in 9 seconds by washed up 50 year old ray mercer!!! MMA is a joke!! and Gotti was passed out drunk when she killed him you dumb ass

  • Gotti may have been drunk, but when somebody is strangling you to death, you usually wake up. How hard is it to flick a 120lb woman off your back?

Its because boxers don't know how to grapple and are completely helpless when anybody, even a woman, starts to apply a choke on them. He probably panicked, tried to get up and shake her off but couldn't, tried to punch back at her (and that's what cut her lip and chin) but she wouldn't let go and finally he succumbed. Killed by a woman! Shameful.

  • People are murdered all the time in thier sleep on in a drunken stupor. Gueast what? The victims never woke up to stop thier attckers. Any homicide cop will tell you that.

  • The fact that a WAOMAN was able to choke Artuto Gotti to death proves that boxing is useless for self-defense. Boxers don't know how to grapple. All a person has to do is apply a choke to a boxer and they are finished. The former welterweight boxing champion had his life taken from him by a little 120lb chick. How pathetic! Even GIRLS can KILL boxers! Boxers are losers. If you want real self-defense, learn MMA.

  • Comment removed

  • Want proof that BOXING IS USELESS IN A REAL FIGHT? Check out the story on the Internet that Arturo Gotti, the former boxing champion, was KILLED BY A WOMAN! His wife, a brazilian chick who had studied juijitsu, got in a physical fight with him. She jumped on his back and used her leather purse-strap to put a choke hold on him. The 120-lb WOMAN strangled him to death! The former welterweight champ couldn't even defend himself against a choke from a girl! BOXING IS WORTHLESS! Boxers are a joke!

  • I don't see how Tim can recover from his Ray Mercer loss, maybe go fight in a freakshow against Bob Sapp, Akebono, Giant Silva, or Hong Man Choi.

  • ... or Brock Lesnar.

  • 2 different sports altogether and boxers wont do well in mma unless they learn other fighting skills . the same for mma fighters trying to box against pro boxers. they just dont have that level of hand skills.

  • lol lucky punch? i swear u mma nuts r the worst losers. he was beating because hes not that tight. deal with it

  • It was a lucky punch, dumb-ass, because it can't be repeated. If Mercer fought Sylvia again, Tim would just take him to the ground right away and end the fight. If boxing really is superior and all you need, how come it didn't help Mercer against Kimbo Slice?

If this fight wasn't a total fluke, then Mercer should be able to win his next 10 MMA fight too. But we all know that the next time he steps in the ring, the MMA guy will hand his ass to him. One fight doesn't make a career, dipshit.

  • Mercer is a 1000 years old. I love MMA and think it's a superior art, but the stand-up and talent pool of boxing is on a whole other level.

Do you seriously think someone like Ali, Holyfield, Lewis, Foreman or Marciano wouldn't eat the MMA HW for breakfast?

When the norm are the Machida's and the Fedor's rather than the exception, then this will change, but until then... it's not even funny how badly Mayweather would beat BJ or GSP. Even Silva would be a fairly easy target.

  • I don't think it will ever change. Most people who do MMA comes from a muay thai, wrestling or bjj background. The fighters from these stlyes already have a huge prejudice towards boxing and classical martial arts. This type of "my style is better than your style" mentallity that you find in MMA is really off putting to boxing and the martial arts. It would be nice to see top ranked fighters from boxing, sanshou and karate in MMA .

  • That's because they're competitive sports though. Off course a wrestler who's tested himself against real men is always gonna fancy his chanses against some posing karate guy who's only done katas and standards.

The same could be said for boxing against MMA. No serious boxer who's fought his way through a pecking order of several thousands of fighters before going pro, is ever gonna take a MMA-guy whos beaten a few tomato cans seriously. It's just that much more competitive.

  • In the end the talent will go where the money's at though - to the venue where their talent gets expressed the best + gives the most money. In this regard MMA has a huge advantage in it being so pure and relatively inclusive. Every combatative sport having a place within the sport and so on.

  • interista7878, actually you got it BACKWARDS. The money will go where the talent is. That's why all the money is shifting to MMA. Boxing has been dying for years since MMA came on the scene, while MMA is the fastest growing sport.

Boxing is what my grandpa used to watch. Everybody knows the real fighters are MMA fighters. Boxing is one-dimensional and way too limited and relies on referees and rules to work. MMA is REAL FIGHTING built for the street, where anything goes.

  • The money goes to boxing. Mma's talent pool are mostly failed american wrestlers and a small talent pool of bjj and muay thai people . Boxing on the other hand draws its talent from America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. MMA is just another fad like PKA long pants kickboxing from the 70's. Funny thing is kickboxing became huge and was covered by ABC sports, ESPN, Turner Sports and Showtime much like todays MMA. Simply put, lots of media hype but no depth of talent equals death.

  • ekjudo, the REAL TALENTED fighters are MMA fighters. Everybody knows that MMA fighters are far superior with multiple fighting skills, whereas boxers are one-dimensional punch-babies. Only trying to punch somebody is a very limited and old-fashioned arsenal. It is a joke and doesn't work in a real fight; you need a ref to stop the guy from just clinching you. The money and attention is flowing into MMA because the public realizes that they are the REAL fighters. Boxing has been exposed.

  • As a fan of both sports, let's put things in perspective....both sports and their Anyone Anderson Silva (and, yes, I am huge fan of his) did before he became an MMA star? Yeah, he was 1-2 as professional boxer who was Ko'ed twce in Brazil which isn't exactly for top tier boxers. The rest of his game is wicked but it;s is unfortunate for mma when fans tarnish their well-rouned skills to hype guys "stand-up games" that make more mistakes than a 16 year old amateur golden gloves fighter.

  • @Kellysayhello - Who outside of mma fans are saying mma has the superior fighters? You say you have more fighting skills, lol. You mean the no head movement, no lateral movement, no defense. You even bring up clinching? lol you mean holding? lol Real men punch. No pulling hair, no bending you pinky back or sitting on another guy. Standing mano a mano is the ultimate. 4 the record I enjoy mma as well but this dip shit wants to talk shit

  • TheGILBERT- Who outside of boxers is dumb enough to believe a boxer has any chance at all in a real fight against an MMA fighter, where there are no rules?Boxing is for little girls. You put on gloves and hit each other, and have to play by predefined rules to keep the match going. "Oh no" screams the little boxer"please don't grab me. I want to be able to stand and punch you". "Oh, please don't kick my leg, I only want to be hit above the waist". LOL Boxers need a 1000 rules to protect them!

  • Are you at it again tuf noob? MMA has no rules? Please check on the UFC web site. MMA has a shit load of rules. You must be only 13 years old with all of the nonsence that you are pulling out of your ass. No grown man can be that stupid.

  • ekjudo, you dumb fuck, I said a STREET FIGHT has no rules! MMA has far less rules than boxing and is therefore a much closer proxy to a streetfight. Consequently, an MMA fighter will be far more adept in a street fight, which is a REAL fight without rules, than a little bitch boxer who is used to playing a "sport" loaded with numerous restrictive rules.

Also, learn to spell "nonsense" before commenting on intellect or age, you moron. Isn't "nonsense" a 10 year old spelling-level word?

  • @Kelly - 1st & foremost mma does have rules you dumb ass. It just has less rules making it easy for dumb asses to follow. If you think that the boxing gloves are there to protect the face then your a bigger stupid ass then what I thought. The boxing gloves are there to protect the hands because a boxer punches harder & with more force then your average guy. Apparently you don't know shit about boxing so what you say doesn't matter. Guys like you keep this rivalry going. Mercer did beat Sylvia

  • Gilbert, so what if Mercer beat Sylvia THIS time. It was a FLUKE because Tim decided to strike with him and got caught with a lucky punch. If boxing was better, then how come Kimbo kicked Mercer's ass? How come Mercer would lose if he and Sylvia fought again? You think this one lucky fight "proves" the superiority of boxing? Then when Mercer loses his next fight to an MMA guy, that will prove the superiority of MMA! 9 times out of 10, the MMA fighter will win, and you boxing noobs know it!

  • lol how come mercer would lose if he and sylvia fought again?? theres something wrong there

  • When you say that mma fighters are the real thing and that boxing is a joke, that's only the opinion of mma fanboys. Boxing on the other hand is a sport based on facts. Fact 1. Boxing is practiced on every Continent. Fact 2. Boxing is the only combat sport that pays millions. Fact 3. Boxing is an Olympic sport. Fact 4. Boxing has a long great history. Fact 5. Boxing is the simplest form of self defence to learn. Fact 6. Even MMA gyms hire out boxing coaches to train them.

  • No people are watching mma because of marketing. A top ten boxer would make a mess of 98% of MMA stars... there is just not enough money for them to even try. Keeping in mind a boxer would train to avoid the takedown... not necessarily learn ground fighting but how to avoid it. And if just striking is so useless why did anderson silva, chuck liddell etc make a living from it?

  • @JoedirtMike you are WRONG. Do you honestly think that "a top ten boxer would make a mess of 98% of MMA stars"??? Don't make me LAUGH. Although boxers are better at pure boxing, that is extremely limited. Top ten boxers HAVE fought MMA fighters and they got their asses kicked. Muhammad Ali fought Inoki (a japanese grappler) years ago. (You can watch the fight on youtube "Inoki vs Ali") The grappler only used kicks and he still beat Ali so bad Ali could never walk properly again. Boxing sucks.

  • First off, the Inoki fight was a show fight. It wasnt MMA..Second, ali got kicked, but was able to walk again with no problems at ALL.

Thai Boxers gets like kicked worse on a daily basis than this, or in just one fight, and you dont see them suddenly not "being able to walk properly again".

Dickhead fanboy, get over MMA and stop trashing boxing at the expense of MMA. Yeah we all know that it is "better" or whatever your point is, we also dont give a fuck.

  • @kellysayshello.... Instead of getting all pissy and defensive about MMA actually consider what I am saying. Take 2 olympic athletes, one boxer and one wrestler. Where can the wrestler go to make money? JUST MMA. In hopes of earning todays largest payout of $400grand for a title fight. Take the boxer now, try MMA for POSSIBLE $400grand, OR just boxing for PROBABLE millions? The best boxers are staying in boxing for the money. NO top boxer has ever tried MMA who wasn't washed up already.

  • @JoedirtMike Also, as soon as a boxer starts learning takedown defense techniques (which is wrestling) then he is no longer a boxer, he is an MMA fighter. Somebody who combines boxing with wrestling is now an MMA fighter. Next, he will have to learn BJJ defense techniques and how to check leg kicks (otherwise the pure MMA guy would just stay out of his punching range and kick at his legs). Thus, the boxer must become an MMA fighter to survive. This proves that MMA is superior to pure boxing.

  • @kellysayshello, I realize anyone who has to consider striking and takedowns becomes an MMA fighter, but all fighters still rely on their backbone. You assume because a wrestler learns to throw a punch that he MUST be on the same level in striking as a world class boxer and it's not even close to being true. If you showed a boxer how to pin somebody doesn't make him a wrestler. The skill level of striking in MMA is LOW in comparison. And MANY MMA stars make a living with just striking.

  • @JoedirtMike So what if fighters still rely mostly on their base? All fighters do that. That doesn't mean they aren't MMA fighters. MMA is about being good enough to neutralize the other guy's key strengths and force him to play your game. Anybody who can block a punch and throw a kick can use that to neutralize boxing, then take the boxer to the ground with a shoot, then use juijitsu to finish him. That is MMA and why MMA is far superior to boxing. If you can't understand that then youre dumb

  • Well if you think "Anybody who can block a punch" can just block ANY punch thrown by ANY fighter then boxing would have been extinct a few hundred years ago. Forest has blocked MANY punches from the likes of Rampage for example... but he couldn't block most from Silva, so how would he do blocking from Mayweather? If YOU don't understand that then YOU are dumb.

  • @Kellysayshello Jesus christ. You are so dumb. You need to educate yourself. You honestly sound like an idiot.

  • @cdnp4p You have shit for brains! You must be the only guy on earth dumb enough to question GSP's wrestling ability. GSP is a great wrestler in MMA (which is MUCH harder than pure competition wrestling) and he could be a competition wrestler but why should he give up his MMA career and millions of dollars for that shit? Get a brain, dumb-ass!

  • Anderson Silva is supposed to be the best MMA star and he wins almost all of his fights with his striking ie Forest. He's the best boxer in MMA and he's a nobody in the boxing world. Look up his pro boxing record.

  • But Anderson Silva also has a BLACK BELT IN BJJ FROM NOG !! If he was just a pure striker, like boxers are, then he would have been finished long ago. Travis Lutter took him down and he finished him with a triangle joke. No boxer could do that. Silva may have good striking, but it is COMPLETE striking (knees and kicks, not just punches) and it is backed with world-class juijitsu. That's what makes the difference; he's a MMA fighter, not just a one-dimesional striker (ie boxer).

  • @JoedirtMike yea silva got koed in one of his boxing matches

  • Yeah your grandfather watched boxing? The real fighters are MMA fighters? Well at least have a little respect for your grandfather's generation that ACTUALLY did fight during WW2, and without them your MMA sport doesn't even exist.....

  • GSP is 30 lbs heavier than Mayweather and trains with ranked SMW boxers. Mayweather would be his lil ragdoll in a cage or the street, but ya Mayweather would outbox him in strictly a boxing match. Any good boxer would crush any MMA fighter in boxing alone but with kicks, takedowns and submissions, Mayweather loses badly. I'm a huge Mayweather fan too, but in MMA he's got nuthin against the best.

  • Mayweather is one in a billion and GSP is one in a few thousand. There are tons and tons of succesful MMA fighters who's got no ground game except for the sprawl (Liddell, Herring, Rampage, Wandy and so on) and thinking a top, top, top athlete like Mayweather couldn't adapt to what lesser athletes are doing and add the knock-out power to his advantage... is just crazy.

How would GSP:s stand up stand to a guy throwing crazy pin-point combinations w. foot work on a whole other level? Hm??? No.

  • GSP has world class take-downs. Like Olympic wrestling level. Plus a boxer would have to deal with the clinch and dirty boxing. I don't think the sprawl and brawl would work against GSP. Especially some boxer that started training MMA late in life.

  • An elite boxer would just cave GSP's face in with good old fashion boxing. Also GSP doesn't have world class take downs. His take downs are great for MMA but put him on the mat with some gold medalist from judo or wrestling in a grappling match and GSP will go flying thru the air. I highly doubt he can even make it on the Canadian Olympic judo or wrestling team. That' the problem with MMA. Jack of all trades and master of none.

  • ekjudo, you are the BIGGEST IDIOT around! You think GSP doesn't have world-class takedowns, dumb-ass?? He qualified for the Canadian Olympic WRESTLING TEAM and trains with some of the most elite world champion wrestlers in the world! He would destroy a little judo bitch and show them what real takedowns and real fighting is all about. There has NEVER been a judo fighter who held a UFC belt, even though SEVERAL FORMER OLYMPIC JUDO medalists have tried MMA, they never get to the top!

  • Your the typical tuf noob. All talk no brians. GSP nevered qualified for any wrestling team. If he had his name would listed on the Olympic team. Please find some real proof. GSP is a karate fighter who only began wrestling after he started mma. Sure GSP could beat a judo guy in mma but you must be on crack to think that he could even touch a judo champion in judo. Like I said, typical tuf noob.

  • ekjudo, you don't know what you are talking about! Read about GSP on the Internet; he could have gone to the Olympics for wrestling but decided to stick with MMA. Just because he didn't wrestle in highschool doesn't mean anything. He outwrestled Josh Koschek during their MMA fight and Josh is a highly decorated collegiate wrestler. He outwrestled Matt Hughes and Sean Sherk. Rashad, a great wrestler himself, said that he's surprised at how easily GSP dominates him in wrestling when they train.

  • Out wreslting some one in mma is totally diffirent from wrestling on the matt. Kicks and punches changes the entire game. How can you be a mma fan and not know this? MMA fighters are jack of all trades and master of none. MMA fighters are great at mma but thats it. You can't out wrestle a wrestler in his own game. Nor can you out judo a judoka or out box a boxer in their own sport. Also there is still no evidence that GSP tried to out for the Canadian wrestling team.

  • ekjudo, you know nothing. GSP trains regularly with the Canadian Olympic Wrestling team and they all have said he would easily qualify for the Olympics. Just because somebody didn't wrestle in highschool or colllege doesn't mean that they can't learn it later and be one of the best, as GSP has done. GSP REGULARLY outwrestles olympic-calibre wrestlers in training, moron, so a "wrestler" can be outwrestled by an MMA fighter. I have won JUDO tournaments and I'm not even a judoka, I practice BJJ.

  • What a tuf noob. You keep changing your story about GSP. First you said he qualified for the Canadian team , then you said GSP could have gone to the Olympics if he wanted to and now this? Make up your mind. Also you still can't out-wrestle a wrestler in his own sport. How can you be that naive? And you winning at judo? Sure. How many medals did you win for canada tuf noob? Nicolas Gill is laughing at you.

  • ekjudo, you really have shit for brains. GSP unofficially prequalified for the Canadian Olympic Team when the head coach pre-scouted him while he was training with several Olympic Team wrestlers. He saw GSP dominating several of the guys in his weight class and told him that if he tried out, he would make the team for sure. GSP was set to officially try out but realized this would require too much of a focus solely on wrestling and hurt his MMA career. So he gave it up to stick with MMA only.

  • You must be a kid and know nothing about wrestling.. You can't prequalify for any Olympic sport. You must work your way up the ladder of compition in tourneyments just to be considered. No coach is going to invite some guy with no wrestling compition back ground to join his team. A wrestler must be tried and tested in his sport. So give up with your tuf noob dreams.

  • No ekjudo, you are a total moron noob! You obviously have never been involved in any athletic competition at the higher levels. Coaches are always out scouting for talent. If they see somebody who is good, they will fast-track him onto the team. This happens in every sport including baseball, football, basketball, and even wrestling.

You DON'T need to "work your way up" dumb-ass. If a person is good enough they can get an invite to the Olympic trials and qualify for the team if they win.

  • ekjudo, you are not even worth talking too! Anybody who is so stupid as to question GSP's wrestling ability, after all the top-ranked wrestlers he's dominated in the UFC, must be seriously deranged. You are living in a fantasy world and obviously cannot be reasoned with. If you knew anything at all about MMA or wrestling, you would realize how good a wrestler GSP is.

It's a waste of time for me to talk to a complete dolt. GSP is a great, world-class wrestler. Period. You're a moron.

  • ekjudo, GSP CAN outwrestle several wrestlers "in their own sport". He has done this in training on several occassions. Every top wrestler, from Koschek, to Matt Hughes, to Fitch, to Sherk have ALL said that GSP is the best wrestler in his weight class and he dominated them in their fights because of his superior wrestling.

As for judo, I have won several local judo tournaments using juijitsu. This is NOT uncommon. I know several juijitsu guys who enter judo tourneys and dominate.

  • You bjj guys are funny as hell. It seems like every single one of you have a " I beat a judo champion story" . Heres food for thought. Royler Gracie wanted to try out for Brazils judo team and couldn't make it. He thought his bjj & cross training in judo would see him thru but it didn't. Heres why. You must train a life time to be good at judo or any sport. So if a Gracie can't do it I doubt you could and Brazil's not even that good at judo.

  • @ekjudo You sure look stupid now that it has been reported that GSP is trying out for the Canadian Olympic Wrestling Team. I told you that he regularly wrestles with (and beats) top wrestlers in practice and that he could make the team, but you claimed he couldn't "outwrestle a wrestler in his own sport" and that"there was no evidence GSP could make the Canadian wrestling team. Now all that I said is coming to pass. Don't you look stupid. I wonder how it tastes to eat your own words, judo noob.

  • No it hasn't... look it up. GSP needs to win a series of tournaments and even still may not qualify. He needs to dedicate himself for minimum year and a half (giving up MMA) and that still guarantees nothing. You don't "try out"... look up the process to qualify, it's not that easy.

I don't think you've had one intelligent post in this thread yet.

  • @JoedirtMike DUH! Of course he has to win a tournament to qualify. You try out by competeing. But this doesn't mean that he won't be able to qualify and beat pure wrestlers at their own game. Ekjudo had claimed in previous posts that GSP couldn't wrestle and I said that he regularly beat wrestlers in practice and could qualify for the Canadian Olymic Wrestling Team. That is exactly what he is in the process of doing. Get a clue, JoeDirt.

  • @kellysayshello.... I need to get a clue? I haven't insulted GSP... the man is awesome... all I'm saying is he's not a "walk on" to the team and you're trashing some other guy here saying he looks dumb cuz GSP in gonna make the team. Get your head out of your ass, stop being so defensive.

  • @Kellysayshello GSP wont qualify. And even if he managed to do the unthinkable and qualify he'd get absolutely mauled in the Olympics. Its alot easier to wrestle in MMA than it is in pure wrestling. Completely different worlds.

  • @cdnp4p Actually he would qualify if he really puts his mind to it and focuses only on wrestling, but its hard now because most of the spaces on the team are filled and he has no wrestling competition record. So he has to start at a top tournament and WIN it, which means probably beating the Canadian champ in his class. The champ can sit every match out because he's already qualified for the team and just rest until GSP. It means giving up MMA for 2 yrs so GSP having second thoughts Not worth it

  • @Kellysayshello lol, he would qualify if he put his mind to it? Anything is possible but its VERY UNLIKELY. GSP is not among the best wrestlers in Canada. And Canada is not a good wrestling nation. And like you said he has a very rough road to qualify, hed have to go through all the top guys. The only advantage GSP has is that hes rich and can devote to wrestling fulltime unlike the others. But make no mistake about it, hes getting mauled by the top guys in Canada and against the world comp.

  • @Kellysayshello GSP is a fantastic MMA wrestler but hes not a world class WRESTLER. Its a different sport, its MUCH EASIER to wrestle in MMA than in pure wrestling. Regularly beats wrestlers in practice? What the hell does that prove? Hes not beating the best, and thats a fact.

  • @cdnp4p actually GSP is a WORLD CLASS wrestler thats why he's out wrestling NCAA champions like Koscheck. he's even been asked to tryout to represent the u.s. wrestling team in the olympics. considering that he never wrestled in college or anything he's probably naturally the greatest wrestler of all time.

  • @durite22 "probably naturally the greatest wrestler of all time"

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

man you really feed off of danas cock hahaha holy shit i dont think ive ever laughed so hard in my life.

  • @thecrazyoftheinsane actually, asswipe...i hate both Dana White and GSP im a big Strikeforce fan, iM not big on UFC or DREAM. I was just stating a fact, just out it this way, its the same as someone that starts playing basketball at 21 years old and by the time hes 25 hes in the NBA and makes the allstar team. GSP is NATURALLY(if u know what that means) one of the greatest wrestlers ever, meaning he was born with more talent then maybe any other wrestler, i never said he was the BEST..

  • @durite22 lol he wasnt born with natural talent, hes worked for years and years on his wrestling. And hes not even close to the best ever naturally talented wise. Try Kremlin or someone like that, a 300lb monster that throws around other 300lb guys (that go through the same training as he does and have years of extensive training in wrestling) like there rag dolls.

  • @thecrazyoftheinsane im assuming you mean alexander karelin?

  • @bodylock88 yea lol my mistake

  • @durite22 You may be the biggest idiot ever. GSP would be hard pressed to place top three in Canada, even with his athletic ability. But asked to represent the u.s. you are off your fucking rocker buddy. Jake Herbert would wipe the floor with him on a wrestling mat.

  • @bodylock88 dude YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON! do you know how to READ. For one, I said GSP is NATURALLY one of the best, meaning natural talent you fucking bafoon. never said he was the best dipshit. and also LEARN YOUR WRESTLING Jake Herbert is in the 185 weight class, he wouldnt even be wrestling GSP. dumbass...

  • @durite22 and if gsp did wrestle he'd be able to make 74 kg? he'd be forced to wrestle up at 84 kg/185. Learn my wrestling?? Your the one claiming the U.S. has been trying to recruit GSP to wrestle for them. That is the dumbest statement i've read in awile. He isnt even being pursued in Canada to wrestle. 84 kg olympian Travis cross would have hammered gsp, so would Brown,Sandu, and Adamson. And thats in Canada. GSP would have no chance on the U.S.A wrestling scene

  • @cdnp4p excuse me the canadian team..

  • @cdnp4p GSP wrestles with former Olympic champion wrestlers, Russians who immigrated to Canada. Randy Couture said that the guys GSP wrestles with in training are like a who's who list of wrestling superstars. So when he beats them in practice, he IS beating world-class wrestlers, dumb-ass.

  • @Kellysayshello Out of curiosity which former olympic champs are training in montreal. I wasn't aware of any who immigrated to montreal. Not disputing this completly possible just wondering who?

  • Dude, the same could be said for wrestler trying to punch (remember the early days?)...

The fact of the matter is that if you have a athletic talent it's very easy to adapt and especially for a boxer who trains so freakin hard on balance and feet movement.

Other fun facts to take into consideration:

GSP fights 25 mins top, Mayweather 36 mins. GSP has fought 20 fights, Mayweather 139. GSP throws maybe 40 punches in a 5 min round, Mayweather 80 in a 3 min round. Etc etc etc....

  • ... and all this without even considering the fact tha most boxers are FIGHTERS with mor often than not some background in wrestling and mixed martial arts of some sort.

  • A boxer like PBF can't make it with mma trianing late in life but a wreslter like Brock can? I bet if PBF came from a wrestling, muay thai or bjj back ground you mma fanboys would be on his balls in a heart beat. This whole debate is not really about MMA vs boxing but more about lesser sports (wrestling, muay thai and bjj) having jealousy toward boxing because boxing gets all of the lime light and money. That's something the holy 3 can never do by themselves.

  • This is the mentality of all MMA fans. They think an elite boxer could never win in mma even with cross training. Guys like Forrest Griffen and Kimbo Slice with less talent have crossed over to MMA but a world class boxer can't?

  • Agree a 100%. Whether you like MMA or not you can't deny that boxing have a HUGE genetic pool with thoroughbred warriors and the scouting to match it.

Boxing fans tend to b very protctive as well though. Seems like you've had to had some experience in them both not to get caught up with the politics of it.

  • Me - I've done mostly boxing with some cheating in wrestling, muay thai and karate. There's no doubt the latter three will teach you some excellent skills, but the fact remains... most of the guys I've met who could really dominate me in all different disciplines, whether it be boxing or MA... they fight in a ring, with boxing gloves.

In the karate gym I'm top dog, always. Take any one of those and I will f**k them up through sheer routine. I've fought over a 100 fights and I'm not that good.

  • It's basically as if you threw away to the protective gear in Football and called it Ultraball. Arguably it's a tougher sport, but as long as the money and the athletes are in football, that's where the real though guys will be at. Right in the center of the competition.

  • Tuf noobs think that tougher equal better.

  • Kimbo Slice wanted nothing to do with Mercer so he took the fight to the ground. Trust me if Kimbo had the balls to stand with Mercer then the fight would have ended up the same as the Silva fight.

  • Jens knew it!

  • what's wild is that a few months ago tim had no trouble with monson, a great wrestler, adcc winner and also a top 15 mma guy like tim is.

tim must have something on the ball to do that so recent but mercer didn't let him use it.

boxers hit too hard, too acurate for mma.

boxers R da big money fighters for sure.

  • Denozza, a FEW months ago? Try TWO YEARS ago and 60 lbs lighter, dumb-ass. Sylvia was out of shape and didn't even train because he knew he was only fighting a boxer. His mistake was trying to box with him. Of course a boxer will win a boxing match, especially with a lucky-punch. Had Sylvia, even in his washed-up condition, decided to take Mercer down then he would have finished him quickly. (The same way Kimbo Slice did a few months earlier).
