One has to remember that a horse learns from people. Kindness and intelligence with a little patience always gets results.... unless, of course the horse has been handled w/ carelessness previously. Even so, eventually, it is a person's kindness and intelligence and patience that overcomes all.
why would anybody hobble a (young) horse - just take you time to get the horses to trust - why brake a horse instead of getting a partner, who wants to please you and is not doing things because it is forced to.
