@ JMbanal: i think it's actually about the bureaucracy of the military (and government) and how they mistakenly sent his wife notification that he was killed in action. (he saw the note in her hand after she fainted, etc..) - still brings a tear here, for me...

'low life' was done shortly after the english "war" in the falklands, and no doubt there were quite a few stories like this around at the time.

Iron and Wine did a GREAT cover.....this version for me is too jolly to be talking about a man who just came back from war but died on the plane and his ghost continued on but the saw his wife with the message that he was dead. Yes, very jolly indeed.
