It shows that proving he is better than someone else is more important than creating his perfect world. But I do agree that Near could never live up to L.

@xenophilius13 Okay, so you got me there. I was actually going by the anime itself and hadn't considered the Manga as of yet. So you're right I guess...but who knows? Death Note is about making your own conclusions, and besides, even if logic states that L DID die, There will always be some way out of it. (i.e.: Contacting B and using him in place of L, so that B dies instead of L.) Also, I would think if Mr. Ohba gave the real conclusion, he would state that L didn't die-considering he like L:)

Then right after Watari's death he fakes his own heart attack, falls to the floor and witnesses Lights maniacal smile. Then Light runs away to find Rem's, L follows him and catches him with a brand new death note with both is own and Watari's names written in it.

@bukkake999 Well, this is simply a matter of whether you have read LABB. Second, Shinigami only die when killing only ONE person to protect another (Watari for example) And therefore killing L was not needed.

@bukkake999 Well, I figured that because Watari is the "control center", if you will, he is probably the one who arranged for Misa's death (and, as we should both know, L has already said that he wouldn't sacrifice another's life if he didn't have good reasons, so he probably only agreed to a short extent.)

Since it is obvious that Rem killed Watari, L is still undefined. (Or at least in my mind he is).

Eh, sorry if it's a little confusing. I am still figuring this all out. :\

@TheFunnyColours It's clearer if you read the manga, it explains the reasons for why Rem died and why she killed L AND Watari. Firstly, Rem established feelings for Misa. Then, she realised that L would be the one to find Misa and kill her - shortening her life span - thus killing L would kill her (Rem). She then decided she might as well take the extra measure in killing Watari as well because he was a strong player in the Kira case, taking him out would ensure Misa even more safety.

@XxtrickshotxX100 Yes, Rem is female. Like I said, the manga states things much more clearly, in an actual line Rem says, "I'm a female" during the bathroom scene at Yotsuba. Her feelings toward Misa aren't as love, it's just protective - she wants to ensure Misa's happiness - like a bear protecting her cubs, etc.

But, I did think Rem was a male when she was first introduced in the manga, and was shocked when the line stating she was feminine came up in the manga. I have yet to watch the Japanese version though.

But if BB was in the anime then it would have been different becuase BB was born with the eyes so i do not think he can see a shinigami so then BB would have probably gotten kiras notebook( The death Note) and he would have killed both L and Kira becuase of the eyes. But the anime would have been better if they had BB in the main storyline

one of the things i enjoy about this song (I'm not sure if this is intended purpose) is that one set of sounds comes out of the right and another comes out of the left, almost as if there are two types of thoughts or standpoints fighting against eachother or working together inside of L's mind. If this was intended, then awesome and it might also relate to Mello and Near's relation later on. If it wasn't intended then it still sounds great.

@DinoZaurzXx the movies aren't following the plotline of the manga. in the film before L: Change the WorLd, L wrote his own name in the Death Note after figuring out Light is Kira, so that he would die a couple days after he would expose Light as Kira, so in that way, Light was not able to kill L immediately. L:Change the WorLd is just the time after Light is exposed, L works on one more case. I've never watched the films, but i read up on it a bit, and this is kinda how it went. that good nuff?

@Omgllovejesusjokes sorry, i guess i phrased that a little differently than i wanted....i meant this theme kinda describes L to me. during the beginning of the theme, u can feel his awkward nature and his weakness for sweets, but as it progresses, u start to also feel his way of thinking and planning in secrecy, sorta like a liar. the first theme of L kinda gives me the impression of "the mysterious detective L who challenges Kira." i dunno if this really makes sense or clears things up though..
