  • Keith was an icon to country music, not only did he sing his songs but lived them as well making him an elite artist.

  • this man was one of the best of his time its sad he passed away still one of my favorite country singers . reminds me of living out in myakka when i was a kid

  • I'm still enjoying this video my GR8 Old Cyber-Buddy!

I'm On YouTube to Stay. They've been screwing with my head, but I am only using this channel or esacnitsuj1 - David

  • Who would love to hear Keith and Whitney singing a duet?

  • listened to this song on a ride to myrtle beach,i thought i liked country, but when i heard this, something happened.

  • Just Too Good!!!

  • It"t right that Keith had demons, but he could bring it out in his music. He's the best.

  • If Keith Whitley hadn't died, we would be asking "Garth who?"

  • RIP......

  • Love this (:

  • keith was country real tradgey

  • He would have been so freaking big! On of the best voices ever....

  • my eyes tear up from the very beginning.

  • I know this may sound weird, but counrty music from 85 to about 95 was some of the best. The classics will always be the classics, but I just can't stomach most of today's ca ca doo doo on the countrty stations.

  • Very beautiful song. Nobody can replace the greats like Keith Whitley, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Horton, Conway Twitty, and others.

  • the 19 dislikes must be strangers to the rain

  • Keith Lived his songs

  • Enough with all the haters of todays crap... i agree its not great... but the classics have already been recored and nobody can ever tae them away... so would you rather have new artists try and replace singers like this... or sing their own songs and look like a fool next to a song like this...

  • @TraditionalCountry7 wouldnt hate it so much if they call it alternative instead of marin the country name

  • The irony is keith's devils are what took him from us. Maybe now he knows peace.

  • It's just plain good music. He hd his reasons for what he did. Only he and the person know why he is no longerwith us to crank out great music.

  • Yes, I remember this dude from long ago..the booze got him..tragic loss..strange story..the next rising superstar..rest in peace Keith..the demons gotcha

  • Keith wrote and sang from the heart. A lesson for these modern day lip service puppets that mostly care about the masses and the dollar. He was REAL!!!!!

  • @ruffaz24 totally agree im 28 grew up on keith whitley

  • I remember when this song came out.....awesome song, such a tragic loss of a young man

  • To Luthien232323-

I grew up on Keith Whitley. Many songs I have that are just him and a guitar. He is one of the greatest voices I have ever heard. I do not listen to what they call "country" music. They can keep their Brad Paisley's and Carrie Underwoods. I'll Take Keith, Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb, etc. It IS said, Lorrie Morgan contributed to Keith's death.

  • I only got one thing to say...\m/. I think Ronnie would approve.

  • This was just such of waste of talent...he was a fantastic singer

  • Not a big country music fan but ole Keith was da man..I asked my wife to play this at my funeral..She probably won't but during the early 80's, it described my life..

  • theres 17 people that dont know what real music is...how sad

  • By far my favorite Keith Whitley song. As my gandma would day this is "country music" and she is right. The songs now will never compare.

  • Keith Whitley loved Lorie Morgan with his heart and soul. It is sad his addiction, alcohol, was THEIR downfall in THEIR relationship. His relationship with alcohol killed him. He was an amazing writer and singer. Most don't know his songs were about, for, or what he did to Lorie. He did admit this during an interview. His story is sad but also a learning experience for all. His other woman was alcohol and Lorie, as she should, couldn't be second. Don't let your love be second!

  • Luthien232323...check out Keith's many contributions to Bluegrass Music when playing in Ralph Stanley's band with the likes of Ricky Scaggs and others. Keith is still the Benchmark for a Tenor Vocalist! For Christmas, do a search of Keith singing a song called " I want Peace on Earth for Christmas", which is a song about Santa writing his Christmas list... It is guaranteed to bring a tear and a smile. DB

  • @bmzv3 the Kentucky Headhunters are also one of my favorite groups as well pal

  • Great song , also love the Kentucky Headhunters.

  • Love it

  • nothing like eastern kentucky singers

  • i love this song

  • Jason Aldean and all the new hot shots should listen to this.

  • I met Keith one time. He was touring with Conway Twitty and TGraham Brown. He didn't have any t shirts or anything to sell yet. He was just out in the lobby of the venue talking to anyone who would spend a minute with him. What a huge loss. He had a lot of talent.

  • i road out 4 hurricanes in 1976 3bd room trailer and it was scary

  • rip keith. we miss you. booze got another one. brightest lights burn out sop quickly.

  • One of the best country voices of our time. What a great loss for us. One of my all time favorite singers. Thanks for posting.

Check out my version on YouTube at MosesRangelMusic

  • love this !!

  • I'm goin' through some rough times in a relationship right now with a girl I love more than any material thing on this earth and this song is one of the few things that keeps me goin' through the day. This song is practically my life's theme song...

  • @Arnold1117 been there brother I know what you're going through.

  • @Arnold1117 ..hang in there champ!!..God Bless.

  • Seems that what's missing today is the feeling of real life's experiences and feelings whether happy or sad. A good voice can only get you so far without the right song to sing , but sometimes even a not so good voice will suceed if the words stir us. Singing just to sell records and make money leaves an empty hole that many of the older country music artists did not accept. Keith had the voice and sang songs that stirred our emotions. Bless you Keith and his Family. RIP...

  • With the wettest month on record for this area, I've been no stranger to the rain especially on this night with the hurricane passing through.

  • @philliesfanjake Sorry my friend. I was picking on my family in New York about that. I live in Florida. Then I saw what it does to you up there. We just get used to it. You guys haven't had this kind of rain ages. Down here it just kinda goes away then gets humid as all get out . Hang in there. By the way, just down the street from the Phillies field. Go Phillies!

  • Keith Whitley is one of those people you have to remember where you were when you heard he passed. It tore me apart when I heard it, I was Driving a Truck on 1-10 between Houston and Beaumont Texas when I heard about it. Like Ol' George said .. Who's gonna Fill their shoes???

  • "What they call country music now is just pop music with an accent. " or Hip Hop/Rap.

  • the classics are the best todays crap cant handle this level of awesome!!!

  • keith was an awesome singer

  • He sounds a little like Randy Travis. Both great singers

  • lmao ...Luth i beg to differ....country music does suck today....soo saturated with pop and modern styles its hard to even call it "original " country music...wheres the fiddles ?...banjos ?..steel guitars ?....rare to find

  • country music today doesnt suck, it just doesnt exist. What they call country music now is just pop music with an accent. I think Keith Whitley is the most underrated country music artist. I rarely meet anyone who knows who he is by name, yet his music has a huge impact on my life

  • @Luthien232323 that partly true but u cant really say that as a whole

  • @Luthien232323 1000% Agree!

  • @Luthien232323 "pop music with an accent"...bullseye!

  • @Luthien232323 i have yet to meet anyone that knows who keith is! my dad introduced his music to me when i was a weee lad! lol!

  • the real country. the way GOD meant it to be thanks Keith and the GREAT SONNY CURTIS

  • Miss ya Bro

  • This song reminds me no matter how far down I have travelled I will always have the hope of tomorrow

  • Keith was no stranger to the rain and when he met lorrie at Homecoming 63 it was love ten feet away. He finally found somebody that was doing him right and he said tell lorrie i love her. Keith told lorrie i have some bad news the Lord has summoned your Kentucky Bluebird home. Lorrie asked Keith why and he said Its all coming back to me now, I must go and share with others in heaven this brotherly love and take my rest but remember i will never be over you

  • When I think of Keith, this song always comes to mind. I really can't explain this? The world lost a great talent, when they lost him. God,gained a good one that for sure!!!

  • This used to be one of my favouritest songs when I was little, and i'm 13 now. I still love this song. <3

  • I remember when my son came home from college & was going through all the albums I had at that time & turned to me & said "I didn't know you had so much 'goood' music'. Before he went off to school, he thought all that 'Country' music sucked. This was back in the 1970s. He has that album collection now & adds to it regularly with 'Goood' music. BTW this song is my personal favorite by Keith Whitley

  • Okay, who are the 15 assholes who disliked the video. can i punch them?!

  • @mattiek93 the assholes that did the dislike are into the new country pop bullshit. even gretchin wilson seems to be a great country artist and she kills taylor swifts shitty music!!

  • I'm 13 years old and I love this guy and Hank williams there isn't a problem in that except people DON'T LIKE THEM!

  • Still knocks me out. That voice.Incredible.Beautiful song sitting on a rock solid country beat.

Why would I waste my time on the "modern" krap when I can listen to THIS???

  • @REVELONRAY hell yeah brother right on

  • @REVELONRAY Amen. Lol. I wish he would still be alive. He had an amazing voice. He's a classic and I love everything ab his music.

  • @REVELONRAY Amen! This crap they have today is just that...CRAP.

  • I still can't believe it! It was a hard time for us all,but specially for Keith's family.

I just buried My Mom not far from Sandy Hook, she always told me "we played too hard",its hard to stop and "the pressure, the temptation is always there Ma",no offense to the Whitley Family they no more than anyone what its like.

You young pickers take it easy!

  • At least we can still find country music on youtube. I've been depressed since watching the 'country' music awards on the "C"MT channel.

  • im 15..

    Keith Whitley is the STUFF!

  • BOOOOOOOOO!!!! To the people that dislike any Keith Whitley song.

  • MrBigrobmjca3 lets not forget Jennings and JR. and and all the other great singers

  • Good one Rolla Hometown. "I wanna go outside in the rain... it may sound funny... but I just wanna go outside in the rain". The Rain The Park and Other Things....

  • truly great authenic country and i definately agree that country music is in need of a revival of great songs and keith was one of the absolute best

  • this was one of his best and he is truely missed

  • Why do great artists die young while worthless tripe get their songs put out all over the place like they own the genre and end up living forever? I guess I gotta start writing and singing because according to gac, cmt, and Nashville, there aren't artists worth a shit anymore. You can't even call them artists, they're like fox journalists, teleprompt reading country music infiltrators. My god I mean, how the crap is rascal flatts still around, it's like the polls are all rigged.

  • The one guy that changed country music forever. These so called singers today are nothing like Keith he sang from the heart and didnt need a recording studio to make him sound great.

  • One of the greats -- Listen to that voice -- flawless !!!!!!!!

  • it's just sad people how great artist like him go out. It goes to show that we just don't know the problems people have hidden....

  • Another non-stranger to the rain died today...RIP Jeff Conway

  • keith whitley was the best listen to that voice you show me a country singer that can touch half of his songs and il show u a liar

  • Gone tooo soon!!!such a wonderful singer!!

  • Great job on this video to a really most important song in my life! Only the Good Die Young. RIP Keith. And thanks for the post.

  • awesome voice great song

  • one of the best artists had a great voice

  • @rapcarblue yes he had a great voice and this song is a timeless classic my friend........

  • r.i.p.

  • Now this is the music I grew up with, true country. I could listen to this song all day and not get tired of it. Whenever I hear country from the 80's and 90's on the radio, which is rare, it takes me back to when I was a kid. I remember watching not only Keith, but others from that time, like Suzy Bogguss, Sawyer Brown, Alabama, Lee Roy Parnell, and many others, great talent you just don't see much of now. Keith Whitley was and is my favorite country singer and God bless him for his music

  • @littlemaniac1982 hell yes thank you

  • When is Keith going to get the credit he deserves and be put in the Country Music Hall of Fame ???????

  • @Loripagel GOOD QUESTION

  • @Loripagel hopefully sometime soon

  • Well,at least 2 people have something good to say, passionate I should say..Never jump to conclusions you know nothing about..kudo's to Info71 and rotsa 1..DOn't believe a tenth of what you've read about Keith in the tabloids..No one knows for sure how Keith Died,,but I have my theory...after all,I was with him almost daily for 8 years..as a member of the Miami band..

  • @haze61151 He was truly the best country singer there ever was is and will be no doubt about it

  • Alcohol is a hell of a drug

  • In the words of another outlaw "only God knows why"

  • Beautiful

  • Guess 14 people don't know what it's like to be left out in the rain

  • country music never dies

  • @grizzlyfosho amen there bro

  • who ever dislike this is a total dumb fuck and can go rot in hell keith whitley is an amazing singer and if you dont like him dont watch his videos - pissed off soldier

  • He had one one of the greatest voices ever..I have listened to him for years. Thanks for posting this....

  • Man, I love the way you re-made this Video XNYerx :-)

I'm still watchin' it, so you know I must be lovin' it & I love Keith Whitley so much man, so thanks for all your great music you've uploaded over the years :-)

    David

  • He was a great singer, too bad he died of an alcohol addiction.

  • @patsaxon

addictions are bad, yes I agree. It's tragic, but it is past Hx right now. Let's keep Keith's & the many other great talents, friends, family, etc who have passed on. Just keep their memory alive as best as you can & live each day to the fullest :-)

    David

  • 12 people are strangers to the rain (:

  • I AM A MAN OF CONSTANT "RAIN STORMS" WORSE THAN THIS SONG CAN EVER KNOW.

  • Very, Very nice xNYerx I'm still a listenin' to this :-) It's on playllists as well :-) I can't forget about you buddy :-)

    Sincerely,

    David

  • So sad that he died from an addiction, as he had a wonderful wife and children left behind. He will be remembered when country music was good. Now what you hear on the radio is nothing but crap.

  • Times are changing and your voice will always be heard.

  • god rest ur soul ur talent and voice will 4ever b missed thankyou 4 ur short but great time on stage im sure ur one of gods favorite angels

  • Beautiful. Actual COUNTRY music!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • easily one of the best country musicians off all time, such a shame his life was cut short

    RIP Keith

  • @wakingpoofer I agree.

  • marine

  • My ex doesnt like country.. i told her she doesnt know good music til she's heard it.

  • @Pyratespyke In the case of music like this you could say she doesn't know good music till she's lived it.

  • love this song its helped me out a lot

  • I will never forget first hearing this on Springfield's KTTS Country Radio. It was a Saturday on Commercial Street as I waited for a galfriend to get off from her antique (2nd hand) store job. As it was coming down in sheets I looked at the old Missouri Hotel across the street. This song fit most of those men of means by no means that stayed there. There - the end of the line or...a place a rest stop inbetween nowhere and nowhere else in particular.

  • KW was a soul singer. He sang real country from his soul.

  • When did this some come out becasue i rember back when i was littler my dad had it on in his truck driving and it was like a hurrican(i cant spell im only 14) but i allwase likeed it

  • its kind a strange but it has simulatrie to jim morrision of the doors who died the same way

  • 10 dislikes, seriously? Dislike shouldn't even be an option for this song!!

  • I'll always remember the shot of his mother in the crowd at the CMA awards show after he died in 1989. This song was playing and the camera was on his mother. It just broke my heart. He struggled with alcohol and life, but God gave us Keith and his music. RIP Keith.

  • My dad use to sing this song to me when I was little before he passed away.

  • HE CAN REALLY SING!!!

  • THAT SONG COMES FROM THE HEART, OF HIM YOU CAN TELL BY HOW HE SINGING IT!!!

  • God gives us all voice, but only to few does he give song. Keith Whitley's voice was one of a kind, thank God we had him to sing those precious few songs that grace our lives. He was no stranger to pain. Sometimes people come into our lives for a moment and paint water colored memories that last forever in our hearts.

  • @tbutler8104 well i guess u can say that he been goood to me

  • This the greatest country song of the last 30 years. ALL people can relate to this. Kieth's music and especially this song got me through the roughest time in my life to date and I have been around since the 50's. He is a true legend to me and I will always have a place in my heart for his music.

  • Great singer Died to young

  • this song said it all

  • brings me to a great time in my life

  • I guess 10 people are Strangers to the Rain. Sad for them. Keith is awesome!

  • @countrygirljune1974 No not strangers to the rain...just strangers to good music. lol

  • such a good song! old country is the BEST!

  • This Is My Father's Favorite Song!

  • I hate country music but damn Keith is good.

  • Don't struggle, float on your back and play dead. The ocean will throw you back.

  • Sometimes when life turned against me..all I seemed to have at the time was Keith's music to remind me I wasn't alone... and that I will never forget..rest in peace soul brother..I love you

  • Keith had the best country voice ever. Period

  • @LessthanZero1993- You got that right!

  • When I think of Keith and his life, this song really tell his story. I am from Sandy Hook, KY and grew up with Keith, even married his older brother Randy in 1983 the same year that Randy was killed on a motorcycle. I will always love Randy, Keith, nephew John and my step-son Jordon Whitley.

  • I heard him since yesterday for the first time and am a fan of his voice.

And I like people to sing about what they experienced, good times and bad times.

  • I know your time on earth was troubled

only you could know the pain

you weren't afraid to face the devil

you were no stranger to the rain

(from Go rest high upon that mountain by Vince Gill sung at Keith's funeral)

  • what this song is saying is that we all have the same problems. I love it. He's saying he has been through every problem you have through and he has Hope. This song is about Hope. My Grandma always told me without Hope we have NOTHING.

  • i luv this song the first second i heard it. He died of acute alchohol poisoning, his alchohol leven was six times the legal limit. :(

  • (to kids who are between the ages of 5 and 17) You see kids, there was a time when country music was good. Those days are behind us. I usued to want to cuss anyone who said country music sucked, now when I think about it, country was good back then, today's stuff, what they call country music (Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts) sucks. Keith Whitley was true country, today's stuff they pass as country is mostly junk.

  • @MrBigrobmjca3 thank you brother that is true. back then being country meant something. now its all apart of a templet.

  • @MrBigrobmjca3 Keith hated pop country. In fact he recorded an entire album of pop country and the withdrew it and instead recorded the old fashioned album Don't Close Your Eyes. Bits and pieces of the missing album have been released over time.

  • @MrBigrobmjca3

Couldn't have said it any better....It is so bad that it really pisses me off!

  • @MrBigrobmjca3 i'm glad u said 5 thru 17, kuz i hardly remember those days but i prefer country music from the 90's and back. its sad younger people don't get it, lol and im only 18.

  • Like Kieth, and this song's lyrics I'm no stranger to the rain.In my opinion his songs spoke of life's issues and troubles that people have in everyday life...Thanks

  • Uh, 9 dislikes? What? maybe a deaf person that just didnt like the visuals? Wow!

  • Great photos...Love this song it played over and over in my head in Benning yrs ago it seemed it rained hot rain in sunlight there

  • too bad there ain't more country singers like this, todays country is a big hooplaa. this is TRUE COUNTRY. sadly missed. I love his voice, so sexy.. his songs were true to his heart and his struggles.. rest in peace..

  • Probably the most talented yet under rated artists of his time. To grow from blue grass to the top of the country charts in a few years, well that was phenomenal.

  • Another song on youtube I've found while listening to different artists songs that I haven't heard in awhile and LOVE!!. YAY> I love when that happens!

  • I love this song. thank you for posting it

  • After all these years, your voice still picks me up when I'm down. You are and will always be at the heart of true country music.

  • Jesse Keith hit #1 in Billboard, 4-8-89. God bless! RIP, Jesse Keith.

  • RIP KEITH I LOVE U

  • always have felt this one in my heart and even more now the rain and winds are harder than ever but aleast for know i am sober
