  • dude have you encounter a menu problem on samsung monitor? my lcd monitors menu always poping up its like grounded or something, is that hard to fix any advise?

  • Please tell me can I use this video example for my Samsung 226cw monitor? Are the capacitors the same and procedure? Please answer me as soon as You can. Greetings!

  • just wanted to say thank you so much for this video, i have just fixed my monitor with the same problem. cost me less than 60p uk money to fix this..... samsung should be sued for not recalling these as they are selling goods with a well documented fault

  • Err I have a qn here , my monitor turns blank after 1 sec of display and I had check the caps but all of them are flat , I found out that 1 black ic chip has it leg burned off ( Ic chip at the back of the board on U202 so ... do you know what's the chip called ?

    thanks

  • @kaiberos I do not, does the chip have markings on it that you can search for on the internet to try and cross-reference? I didn't own this monitor so I can't open it up and check it.

  • Many thanks for this video. My problem wasn't as bad as any of the others I see here. The stand bracket broke and I had to take the back off to replace it. Stared at it for a long time before finding your video. No broken tabs & no scratches. Thanks again!

  • I have one of these and while it's not dead, the screen does have this overbright and kind of hazy quality. Any thoughts on what might cause that? Thanks :) Awesome video!

  • Ave! Just fixed my Samsung SyncMaster 2232 Bw! Thanks! You are star!

  • Great Video! These capacitors fail because they are of inferior quality. I always replace all of the electrolytic capacitors except the big smoothing capacitor in the primary,(400V). The cost is negligible and you know the power supply is unlikely to fail again once it's fixed. The capacitors should be high temperature, low ESD types, from good manufactures,(Panasonic,Nichicon,United Chemicon, Rubycon etc). mouser.com is a good place to buy

caps. I recommend: Panasonic FR Series capacitors.

  • your video saved me hundreds of dollars!!! thanks brotha!!!! ever need any plumbing or heating or hvac tips let me know!!

  • @anthonycarrolljr Thanks for the support, I'm glad I could help!

Luckily everything seems to be working at my house right now... *fingers crossed* but if something blows up, I'll shoot you a message. :D

  • my 2232bw is humming when I turn down brightness... I realized that when I press monitors back the humming stops.. SO there seems to be an unstable part inside which is causing vibration I need to open the case to stabilize that component I dont know how I am going to do it but anyway I must open... damn it looks to hard to open the case.

  • Thanks for the help! I replaced two bad capacitors in an LG Flatron L1933TR monitor with equivalent ones ordered from DigiKey [25V 470uF, 16V 1000uF]. The monitor works fine now.

  • Is it possible that a capacitor overload from the monitor can break the graphics card?

I followed your tutorial and successfully replaced 4 bad capacitors with 4 x 25v 1000uf. However, the problem I now face is my Graphics Card broke shortly after replacing the capacitors (the screen started showing artifacts/broken graphics). So I replaced the graphics card hoping that it was a coincidence. But it has just started happening again after replacing the whole computer (motherboard, PSU, everything

  • @nikshep That's scary. But... I wouldn't think so. The monitor is just accepting a signal from the graphics card. Additionally, the caps are replaced in the power supply board of the display, so I'd think any extraneous signal or voltage would either fry or get caught in the logic board well before it got to your card.

Though I must say, your testimony does scare the crap out of me. Please keep me up to date in the future, I'm very curious.

  • Just resolved the flashing I was getting on startup with your video, was great in understanding how to remove the bezel, as with no screws, it's hard to tell where the clips are, and how to remove them without a guide. thanks!

  • I have the Samsung 2233. Suddenly when I turn it on it would show the screen and turn off after 1 sec. If I switch inputs it would turn on again and again off after 1 sec. I open it to see if the capacitors were bad, but they look fine. I checked the outputs of the power board which supose to have 13 volts and 5 volts and they are fine. Any ideas about what could be the problem?

  • Hi,

Thanks for saving me a good 250 euros since i would buy something on that range of price. Replaced the three 35v 820uF capacitors with 35v 820uF and i also repaced the small 25v 330uF with a 35v 820uF since i didn't have anything smaller. It works like charm now.

  • > i have same screen on my new pc :D

    >can you help me? im hearing some verry lopud buzzing by decreasing brightens i decrease that buzzing sound...

  • Just followed the instructions for soldering and I had no 820 uf capacitors to be found so I took the advice in these comments and replaced the 3 busted ones for three 1000 uf and saved my 2232BW monitor I almost threw away!

  • Thanks, all I needed was to remove the bezel but I watched you work throughout. I will subscribe and watch other tutorials as needed.

  • I have a 932bw and this was very helpful showing me how to take it apart and spot the problem. Bad caps on my inverter as well. I found another board so I'm just going to replace the whole board instead of dealing with soldering on new caps. The board I have looks like a goner anyway. Thanks again.

  • Could i put a 2232bw power board in a 2232gw monitor?

  • thank you! saved a bunch of money fixing it myself. the flickering kept getting worse and worse and now the monitor works perfectly.

I had to replace 5 of the 820uf capacitors and the 330 as well. it was my first attempt at something like this so it looked like crap and i wasn't sure how it would turn out. also burned my finger pretty good with the soldering iron, but it was worth it.

I had the 2232GW btw..probably not much of a difference.

  • Do someone knows what kind of compacitors i have to brought, thanks

  • Thanks , worked for me :)

  • I have a Samsung Syncmaster 2043NW that has had a long start up time for the last couple of months, and now when I opened it I found two capacitors that seems to be broken (2x 1000 uF 16 V). Now I will try to find replacements and then we'll see how it goes :) Thank you real much for showing how to open the monitor! Wouldn't have figured it out otherwise.

  • The 2232BW on my desk started flickering yesterday and, thanks to you, will be fixed tomorrow. Bedankt!

  • OMG thank you SO much for this video! Sadly I had to replace SIX blown caps total (all the 820s and the 330) but once everything was soldered back on it worked like a charm!!!!

  • I got a 'broken' monitor off of one of my friends for 15 bucks. 5 dollars in parts later, I have a radass, working monitor.

    Awesome video.

  • awesome tutorial. you definitely get style and personality points bro! Thanks for putting this together.

  • I have a strange problem with this monitor. If i hit the power button the Magicbright menu pops up in stead of turning power off. Someone any idea of what is this problem can be?

    Thanks.

  • @PolitiekincorrectTV Hi there,

Have you found a solution to your problem yet? I am having the exact same problem for a week now, it suddenly happened.

  • @achillesuk Ive got same problem. Have to unplug it to shut my device off. Alsof my Windows screensave doenst work 100% all the time. STRANGE!!

  • THANKSSSS A LOT DUDE!! I fix mi samsung 932b plus with your help.

  • this was the coolest thing for me! about to throw a monitor away (I normally open laptops and clean them...at MOST) ...so I took the challenge and did this and BOOM! perfect! thanks

  • THanks :-) kist fixed the mounts for the mount holes in my samsung

  • FUUUU...as noobish as it sounds i didn't take a pictureof them, before unplugging those inverter cables, on my samsung 953bw and now i guess im screwed.. the cables have the same colour as your friends monitor though so i guess i'll try plugging the the same way and pray it works out.. however if you happen to know anything helpfull for my situation and u don't mind bothering urself please share it so that i won't blow up my monitor!

  • Gracias buen aporte. (Thank you)

  • Thank you very much!! I replaced 3 capacitors and my 2232BW is back to life.

    Thanks again for this guide!!

  • thanks a lot!!! I overpressure the power button and it get in to the monitor...lol

I have a problem with this monitor... some times it doesn't light up (I mean I have black screen with very low light) the monitor... I was believing that was the capacitor... any suggestion??

  • @Fr0stAng3l If you are shure that the capacitors are good, I think you must check the inverter board.

  • Hey guy, you saved my day and saved my lcd monitor...I'll buy the capacitors today, thank you genius! hug!

  • Thanks a lot. Fixed my Samsung 943NX through your video. Warranty expired 5 months ago. Replaced 2 bloated 16V 1000uF capacitors that costed only US 40 cents. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any better ones such as those solid-state caps.

  • Hey, thanks a lot for this guide. It has given me the confidence to try and repair my monitor (the exact same model). I do have a question though: How did you un-solder the old capacitors? Did you heat them up from the bottom of the board?

  • Repaired my 2232BW, thanks to you.

    I replaced the 3 x 820 uF with 3 x 1000 uF (from my father, said it couldn't hurt)

Also replaced the smaller 330 uF in the corner, since it was swollen as well.

Removing the outer plastic edge went a lot more difficult here, but not one clip broke :).

    Thanks again for this guide!

  • @EpicentreNL Thank you!

  • Cool repair, I have to do likewise on a 2220 wm, if I'm successful I'll post a video. Only thing I'd say, on the caps that were wired off board/surface, I've done likewise on guitar amplifiers is slap a dot or two of clear silicon adhesive on the cap before you tape down your caps. The silicon will hold it more securely and the tape will hold it down till it dries. Of course the right cap is best fix if you can find them from a electronics supply place on the web.

  • Thank you very much! - you saved my 2232BW that suffered from the exact same problem! Silly faulty caps. Hardly any visible damage (slightly swollen) but it was getting nearly impossible to switch the monitor on. Just replaced them all to be safe and I'm really happy it works again!

  • hey man. thank alot for posting this video. had the same problem with my monitor and its been working fine for 10 minutes. so far so good.

  • Comprei três monitores destes... Um deles logo de cara deu este defeito (tela piscando). Levei à assistência, onde me atenderam muito bem.

  • I have the very same monitor and it's screen is dark. If I look close enough I can see that there is image being displayed. What can I check beyond the lamp?

  • Samsung needs to stop using cheap chinese caps in there high end monitors, they should spend the extra 10 cents on some japanese caps and make there products actually last !!!

  • hi, i have to a samsung syncmaster 2232bw, and i don't know why, my menu buttons inverted and my on/off button doesn't close the monitor , it just change to digitial to analog. can you help me?:)

sorry for bad english :D tnx

  • As a word of warning beware not to touch the leads of a big 400V capacitor (can give you serious shock if charged) or at least measure it with a meter to make sure it is discharged. Hold the circuit board by its edges before checking the capacitors. Basically the circuit board resistance should leak the charge in a couple of seconds but this is just to be sure.

  • @phazze I must stand by this statement. I've been shocked by the flash circuit capacitors on cameras before and that was not fun. I can't imagine getting juiced by one on a power supply!

  • thanks for the video. me too had this issue with flashing screen (3x 820uf/25V and 1x 330uf/25V were busted). i found that the easiest way to open damned plastic is to push the front frame outward the screen (gently!) and push the back frame inward (again gently) in other words in opposite directions. as plastic is elastic a bit, this worked best after busting a few initial caps with old credit card + knife + pushing combination, did a flawless opening of the case (but it took me 45 minutes!)

  • Thanks so much for this video. I ordered my new caps from digikey and received them in one day. The biggest tip I can give anyone is to buy the de-soldering tool from radioshack. This was super easy to fix. My monitor is like new now.

  • I did everything and yeah it was those three caps. Apparently this model Samsung has that problem. Got the monitor for $20 at a local thrift store and caps are going to cost me cents. Awesome, thanks for the video!!! =D

  • thank you for the tutorial. Mine was not broken but needed a tutorial to open the screen and remodel the back plane a bit so I could fix it to the wall. that worked out excellent thanks to this tut.

  • what a legend , was considering buying a new monitor but this is the tut i just needed will test it this weekend thanks

  • really nice video, help me a lot :D thanks you!! sorry for my english xD

  • First time trying to replace caps. Watched your video and was successful first time out. Thanks a lot for doing the work to post this video.

  • Legendary. Just did this for my 2232GW Sammy. Took me about 30 minutes and it's working again like new!

  • Can you to repair my samsung?!

  • I have the exact same problem. The monitor starts flickering and I only have the 2232BW model for a little over 2 years. Exactly the time I find in many descriptions. No Samsung for me again. I have my IIYAMA for at least 7 years and still working. Thanks for the video. Will also try to make the repair.

  • Thanks to your video I was able to fix my 2032MW. The instructions must have been really good, because I'm a non technical person. Another video on Youtube showed me how to de-solder the broken caps and solder the new ones.

  • this monitors hold high voltage inside, you could get electrocuted introducing a metal object like that.

  • Excellent instructions! I could bring my monitor up from the dead too. It was easier than I thought. Thanks a lot friend!

  • Many thanks! I came across this video while I was yet in mourning over the looming demise of my dying 2232bw. I was so inspired, that I went to a local Radio Shack, bought a $10 soldering gun, a $6 roll of solder and three 1000uf/35v caps (the only this RS had that came close). I pried the monitor open (first using a butter knife, then switching to the edge of a hard plastic comb), did a HORRIBLE job of removing the old caps, soldered the new ones on.... and my monitor is working great!!

  • hi, i have a 932BWE plus and after a trip my screen stopped working, did not issue any light, not know if the same happened to that screen you have. I like that you clarify me and if the capacitors are the same to my screen. thx for the vid

  • Thank you so much for this, I had a dead 226CW and was about to replace it when in a last ditch effort I searched Youtube and found this. I bought some caps and bingo, it lives again!

  • @UKmatt2000 Cheers!

  • If you can't find the capacitors "820uf - 25V" and "330uf - 25V" you CAN replace them with "1000uf - 25V" and "470uf - 25V". Thats what I did and works like brand new.

BTW uf=μf for those who gets confused. Hope this helps :D

  • Thanks for the video. Looking at the feedback i bet it has helped a lot of people with samsung. I followed you instructions and replaced the three caps you did plus one more rated 330uf and 25v. I initiated the whole thing because the monitor was initially flickering and now it had become a huge paper weight. Ever after the caps replacement nothing except the blue light on the monitor will come ON. Please help

  • TY DUDE! My 2232 died after only having it a few months and ive just fixed it using your guide, TY again! :)

  • @alecrepliestothings i fixed it ! tnx very much for the info mate

btw i;ve put 1000 microfarad capacitors and it works like a charm :)

  • THX man !!!

your video help me a lot to fix my 2232BW .

    thx from Africa !

  • i have the same monitor. last week started to flash when turned on after while.

now the flashing increased and sometimes i cant turn it on

do i have to change the capacitors or to look the problem somewhere else?

    pls help

  • little tip for most of those modern "screwless" monitors:

when taking it apart, let the LCD panel itself lie on the front bezel, and lift the back cover off (push the VGA/DVI connectors down with your fingers while lifting the back up).

they're designed to be taken apart that way.

you can then easily disconnect all the wiring going to the metal box (with the boards in it) if you disassemble it that way ;)

if you do it right (experience) you won't even leave fingerprints on the panel :D

  • Great vid, my monitor started flashing about a month ago now, so just bought some caps and will fix myself.

    Nice clear instructions thanks.

  • The caps I used were 3x1000µF and one 470µF (the small cap at the bottom left).

  • Shall I expect this problem in another 2 years? I mean, is it because Samsung used rubbish capacitors or is it due to the design of the power supply in general?

  • Thanks mate! My Samsung 2232BW has been blinking for the first 5 minutes after turning it on for about 8 months now. Last night it finally went completely and I couldn't get a picture. So, this morning I took the plunge, opened up the monitor and found 3 "ballooned" caps and one cap that had leaked. I went and bought 4 new caps, installed them (easier than I imagined) and BOOOM my monitor works again!!! :)))) I'm so happy :) No flickering when turning on or anything. All hail this video!

  • Just fixed my 932b, used 1000µF capacitors instead of 850µF... I was really insecure about taking off the cover before watching the video, it feels like it's gonna break, but it's just the way it is... thank you very much for the instructions... :)

  • Awesome job on the video. Thanks for posting! I replaced the three blown caps in my 2232BW with 1000uF caps, and it's been working great now for a couple of days. Felt great to salvage a monitor with a couple of hours work and about $7.50 spent. :)

  • Wow, I guess all Samsung monitors use a similar design, this is very similar to the 2220wb.

  • My 2232BW is blinking like hell, shut itself down, and when it's "hot", works.

Is this typical pb of old capacitors ?

  • @KameSenninKun Having the exact same problem. Takes an age for it to warm up - have to blast it with a hair dryer to get it to work. Gonna buy a new one and see if i can fix this one. Hopefully the OP sees this and can shed some light on it.

  • @niceguymicky i opened my monitor yesterday, and the capacitors not seem to be "that " dead. They're not "flat", but not like this video. I'm going to change them, i'll get to you if it works.

  • @KameSenninKun That'd be great! Good luck!

  • @KameSenninKun Did you manage to get it fixed? Not opened mine up yet - might just have a go and see what happens.

  • @niceguymicky I'll receive the capacitors by the end of the week. i hope !

  • @niceguymicky Fixed ! Easy to do ^_^

  • Had the same problem; I had 6 (!) blasted caps that had to be replaced. I used 1000uF ones since they didn't have 820uF at the local shop without ordering.

I cannot say how much it helped to show how to get that damn thing opened and get a beforehand idea how it looks like inside. It's really a pain to pray it open, but the rest is really really easy as shown in the video.

  • I made a quick and very effective plastic pry tool by cutting a CD in quarters. I then sharped one of the cut edges with sandpaper. I would also recommend sanding off the reflective surface because it tends to flake off and makes a mess when you use the tool.

  • Dude this was a very useful video it helped me open a samsung LCD that had the mounting plates jiggling around inside. Some how they came loose, and was inside so I could not power on the lcd without starting an electrical fire. Thanks a million.

    EAR

  • Credit cards are usually good for prying stuff apart without leaving marks!

  • @b00rk Great idea... I used cards for all sorts of other things, I don't know why I didn't think of that.

  • Thank you. Your video was very helpful in taking apart my monitor. However, all my capacitors were fine. I did not have the same symptoms but I thought I would check anyway. My problem is that there are discoloration lines that appear at random on images in the screen. I would guess that it takes up 30-50%, again at random, of the screen. I can send a photo or even upload a video for you to see. Can you help?

  • Hey, good vid!

My monitor ain't busted, but it does have a couple of storm bugs stuck under the plastic screen protector. Used your advice on getting the shell off and even managed to get the metal trim around the screen apart.

However, when I tried prising up the plastic protector, it didn't want to lift away easily. I didn't have the balls to tear it apart, so I put it all back together.

    Bummer!

Have you ever had to get the screen apart for an LCD? Can it be done without damage??

  • eBay has these, make sure to get the 20mm height if you can.

I went and got about 10 of these for like $4.00 with shipping!

Also, just checked Samsung and my 2232BW Plus is showing as Parts and Labor Warranty for 36 months. So, now I'm debating whether its worth it too ship to them and pay freight, or just do it myself.

Check before if you're not familiar with soldering. If its out of warr, then its not that hard and nothing to lose.

    Nice video alecjahn

  • Alecjahn, Thanks from Brasil!

    I Repair my lcd 2232bw.

  • Thanks for the video. I have the same model with the same 3 bad caps. Followed your instructions and I am happily using my monitor now.

  • Mine finally died today. I never got around to replacing the caps..I would just wait a minute or two to get a picture, but over the last week or so it got to the point where it took hours to get a picture. Yesterday it took about 4-5 hours to get a picture :D

  • Omg the music wtf?

  • thanks for video man

  • awesome dude, thank i just fixed my samsung after spending $40 on the new capasitors, since i few all 6... even the tiny little one. oh yea, and after i spend $450 on a brand new 24".... fck i really could have gone without it, not that i'm dissapointed, just i wouldn't have needed to spend $450. Why did i wait till afterwards to open it up:'( oh well, i'm happy~such is life. LOL Thanks anyway

  • What do you suggest doing if a LCD monitor doesn't work properly but all the capacitors are perfectly fine? I fear it's the backlight (an area i have no experience with), any suggestions?

  • just to let you know next time you need to open something like this, an ipod or anything with those plastic tabs you can use heavy guitar picks....I use dunlop nylon guitar picks for opening things like this, I also use them for playing guitar too, so yeah!

  • Holy crap, I don't know why I didn't think of that. There's at least a handful scattered around my bedroom...!

  • Thanks friend you help me a lot i fixed thanks to you

  • Hi mate. I'm about to try and fix my monitor (Samsung 226BW) the same way. Is their any concerns about being electrocuted by the caps or what not? Mine flickers and sometimes won't wake up from sleep first thing in the morning when its cold, after it warms up it works normal. I've heard allot of people say the caps cause this issue with this model.

I've never soldered anything before so yeah, just wondering if I need to take any precautions to avoid being shocked.

  • @DragonRomer I wouldn't be too worried. You may want to make sure it has been unplugged for a couple hours and that should help drain any excess voltage. The cap you should definitely watch out for is the huge one on the board.

I'm not going to say that you can't shock yoruself, but I've never done it before except on the flash capacitors on cameras (the ones that hold the charge for the flash, they're like 200+ volts and don't discharge on their own very well.)

  • Ah okay, thanks buddy! :)

  • Thanks mate, very helpful. I've sold a couple of LCD monitors for parts in the past when I've had similar problems. Not this time!

  • Hey, Can you help me with this issue? I'm wondering where you obtained these caps. Please and thanks! Awesome video, Too! 5/5 and subbed!

  • I just picked them up at the local mom and 'pop electronics supply store. Online, there's places like Digikey and Mouser that sell high quality components for excellent prices.

  • You need a spudger kit. Really comes in handy for prying open random things that are not meant to be opened by evil folks looking to fix things :D. They really came into popularity for opening ipods to replace batteries and such. I bought one and then added a modified plastic putty knife for opening stuff like the Mac Mini and Western Digital MyBooks. They do a nice job of opening things with out damaging them.

  • @ShinmaRyuu I do! Indeed.

  • 5+ Stars! Great Video!

  • *Romero tu televisor es listo caramba* :)

  • killer video you should have your own company just doing repairs it seems there is nothing that you cant fix or mod in some way or another cheers on a job well done

  • Top repair, top tune & top man!!

  • awesome vid. That music was painfully beautiful

  • @AmidstStorm

Last track on Tom Waits' "Alice". What an album.

  • About 7 years ago after coming off an 13 album obsession with an small time artist known as Dylan, I found an album in a record store and the cover art made me pick it up. This dude was suited, but looked like he's been up all night drinking hard. I bought it. This album was 'Small Change' by Tom Waits, and blew me away.

  • @AmidstStorm

I think he was drinking and smoking before he was even conceived.

  • and who said it was bad for you? Without it we wouldn't have what he created. In my book that's all good

  • @AmidstStorm

    I'm certainly guilty.

Without it, I certainly wouldn't do half the crumby creative things I do. :P

  • Very interesting video,wish i could fix stuff ;_;

  • nice man

im just replacing som caps on a lcd to

only ned to go to the store and by som

and at the same time im replacing all caps in my vectrex. :)

  • pretty cool

  • Nice nice, That's the exact same model monitor that I have! Kinda weird watching this video about it o_o.

Ok maybe not, but I hope mine doesn't die anytime soon lol. I'll probably be too lazy to do anything about it :D

  • Unfortunately not. The seller said he'd give me a "discount" on another cart but then didn't find anything I wanted for a while, and then never replied back to me later. Darn eBay.

  • great repair video man!!!! im so glad you showed me how to do this..... i cant wait to find a broken one now!!!! +1

  • Nice dude,I never knew how to spot a bad capacitor but now I do!

  • wow that was cool more vids like this :D

  • good stuff

  • Bravo Meistro

  • There you man, back to the repair vids like usual :D

  • @lukemorse1

I give 'em as I get 'em!

  • Thanks for the video. I'm getting a Sega Blast City this week and I'm probably going to have to change the capacitors in the monitor, so this was informative.

  • Very nice work.

  • Another great video. For a layman like myself, just watching the components educates you just a little bit. Thanks once again!

  • I hope your mom didn´t kill you after she saw that you used a butter knife..... hopefully it wasn´t one of grandmas good ol knifes! :-/

  • Hey, Grandpa would of loved to let him use that knife.

  • Dammit Jim I'm a doctor not an electrical engineer! I've seen a lot of dead LCD monitors that aren't really that old. My buddy also told me they are often bad caps in the power supply section just like this one. Nice fix man. Yeah too bad you can't keep it now.
