@dsnowh16 Congrats on coming as far as you have... you should be proud of yourself. In terms of your tone... it really is all about finding "your sound". Make the instrument an extension of yourself. Play from the core... literally. The notes you play start in your gut... not your mouth. But most of all... just find "your sound"... and have fun! Your sound is yours... it should come from the center of who you are and all the experiences that got you there.

listen listen listen to pros. that plays a big role along with long tones. it sounds boring but it will pay off. it all depends what kind of sound you want also. Im sure you know that this guys playing is masked with effects. It can make anyone sound better, not to bash on this guy dont get me wrong he sounds good. im nearly out and need a new reed and am considering the V16

im looking for smooth high notes that arnt high piched, i noticed the V12 gets pretty pichy and high once you hit high A

I use 3.5s for jazz too! I though I was the only guy except like Joshua Redman (who actually uses 4's... holy crap). My setup is an Otto Link metal 7* with vandoren java RED 3.5s. It just kinda works and sounds good, not sure why. 3's were too bright and squeaky in the high register.
