Of course, Avianca is not necesarily a luxury airline, but it has a good service and covering with high operation standars. In fact, AVA is the first southamerican company that request several B787 Dreamliner and A350, operating currently A318, A319, A320, A330 all of last generation, apart from some F-100, F50 and B767 (yet). About the great MD-83, Avianca doesn't have it anymore since March, 2011. Regards.

@cekirvit Yes I am aware that Avianca have retired their MD-83s and replaced them with A320. It is a bit sad because I loved flying on the MD-83, they had great character and the Avianca MD-83s were in excellent condition for their age. Look I think Avianca is a good airline, much better than most carriers in the USA, I have never had any problem with them I found them to be professional.

Avianca is one of the best airlines in the entire world. It's absolutely safe to fly with them; the last accident occurred in January 1990, when a B707 fell on Long Island for lack of fuel (don't forget that the investigation concluded that there was shared responsibility between the crew and air traffic control). The Avianca's current fleet includes Airbus 319 and 320 which have entertainment devices. About the on board service in short flights, a good cup of Colombian coffee is enough for me.

Avianca is a good airline, but I would not say that it is one of the best in the world, I don't think Avianca comes close to the standards of airlines such as Singapore, Emirates, Qantas or Thai. In South America I think the best airline is LAN, although I hear that TAM from Brazil is very good, but I have never flown TAM so I cannot say. But Avianca is definately a safe airline, it is comfortable and the coffee is good, and I loved their MD-83s..

@BigCatDiary100 No, there was no inflight entertainment, but it was only a 1 hour domestic flight so one doesn't really need TV on such a short flight. I do believe that Avianca have individual inflight entertainment units on some of their longer international flights.

When flying to Colombia I always take Avianca , service excellent , friendly and the food is good. Also you already get the atmosphere of Colombia onboard. I recommend if anyone likes to fly to Bogota, take Avianca , it's safe and friendly.

thanks for the comment. No the flight was not bumpy, it was reasonably smooth. The duration of the flight was about an hour and twenty minutes, although we seemed to spend a lot of time on the tarmac at Bogota.

You are one lucky mate. I tried to do the same thing with my video camera and found myself getting chewed up by one of Avianca's customer service representatives she argued that it was not allowed because of security reasons I told her that there were no signs posted prohibiting videotaping on the premises, the bitch did not say anything......I guess things are a bit different if you look foreign...talking about double standards
