wow, i was somewhere in that crowd watching the sunset, coming up on my first ever trip, at my first ever Glastonbury..... and that was just the start of the evening.
Giant Steps has to be one of the best albums ever. Have always loved the dub intro with feeding back guitar on Lazarus. I'm off to find my cassette with their Radio 1 sound city 94 set. Touchdown Jesus and Butterfly McQueen stick in my memory as being outstanding.
No f'in way! So much Boo's love on 'ere! Also met Mr. Martin Carr a few times. Gave him a picture I took of the Verve at Glasto 95 w/RA in full arms out Christ like pose, this was May 97 when they opened for Better than ezra in houstoned tx rite when BSS was about to drop; met him after the show, smoked him out while Martin attempted to sum up the song for me. Anyways totally underrated, dont think they'll ever get back together. From what I could tell they hated being popstars
This song put tears in my eyes 15 years ago as their encore song. Too bad this version is so sloppy, with out of tune guitars... This was really a great band that should reform.
This is one of my favorite bands....saw them in Chicago @ Metro, maybe in '95 or '96 (Third Eye Blind opened and got booed off)....I miss them so much.
I was there! Only time I ever went to Glastonbury. They were great, but I wanted more of the old stuff - I was shouting "BLUEBIRD!!" and "TORTOISESHELL!!" at the back, but everyone else only wanted -that other song-. Great band all the same.
you my friend are spot on, it gets me everytime! Saw them playing live at Reading Festival one year went to see Weller and they were on beforehand obviously the kids wanted to hear wake up boo and the band came out to this saying 'this is for the uninitiated!' and teased out the intro like I've never heard before, class!
Sadly I don't think this version gives the intro justice, trumpet comes in way too early, good post all the same!
Reading 1995?!? Sorry to say (as I'm probably going to get slagged for this) but I feel that Wake Up Boo is the Boo's best - Fairfax D is stone cold. I know this (sic) is a pref, but I'm a sucker for the closer to Mersey Beat!
I taped this on my Betamax VCR aged 16. This track was the first track that truly got me into music. I watched this over and over again, just gobsmacked. Bear in mind I was a 6 stone anorexic and in love with Richey Edwards at the time... this was more. This was real music. Christ... I adore Martin Carr. I've never met the guy but he's made me cry and given me so much joy. The Boo Radleys were brilliant and better than anyone in the Britpop era and before.
Me too! Giant Steps is my favourite album of ALL TIME. But yes, the Manics were special afterwards. Did you stop for the Pretenders? They were good too!
Giant Steps, one of the greatest albums ever!!! I was at this show; fantastic stuff, wonderful memories. One of the truly great British bands, much underated...never made a bad album. Met Martin Carr once and was so awestruck made a complete tit of myself!
Lazarus was one of their best, no question...they used to finish their sets with I've Lost The Reason then this...Ah nostalgia ain't what it used to be!
Thanks so much for posting this, brings back really great times...
Totally agree with everything you just said. I can't believe how underrated the Boos are/were. I also met Martin Carr once and I and had a similar experience. I think I thanked him for the album C'mon Kids, to which he shrugged and looked confused. Cue 5 minutes of awkward silence and small talk, concluding with me remarking "Well, it's always a bit disappointing when you meet your idols, isn't it?" Needless to say, he was not amused. Complete fail on my part.

Thanks for the reminder........sweet.

Any of you british Boo fans ever get into Aussie band underground lovers? Their song las vegas reminds me of this great horn lines and noise guitar.

true, they were one of the finest 90's british bands. I used to love how unpredictable they could be.

I was, they came on prior to the sun going down on Richie and the MSP`s.
I remember steam rising from Sices overworked bonce as they gave their all on the NME stage.
They played a great set but were sadly blasted away by a combat driven combo from the Valleys.
Both great bands in their individual rights at a time when creativity and idealism rather than commercial potential were the orders of the day....
