The Vietnam War was the USA's own 4th July, Fighting an enemy thousands of miles away, mostly guerilla warfare, costly, and in the end the yanks withdrew, just as the brits did in 1783, the Brits weren't "Defeated" just as the American army wasn't, 1777 ended in a treaty, & the american forces consisted mostly of French & Dutch troops, along with foriegn supplies for the rebels exactly like the vietcong being supplied by russia, It seems the Americans are misquoting history again...
Because Lyndon Johnson was afraid China was going to launch nukes. His containment policy was a dismal failure in which public policy was emphasized over strategic subtlety.
Nixon expanded the war in order to cut the Viet Cong off. he almost won too, but Watergate was disastrous, he resigned, and a yellow faced democrat congress pulled support.
If you want to know who really lost the Vietnam war, it was the democrat party infiltrated and undermined by Marxist so-called intellectuals
@whitesox889 Korea was an entirely different can of beans, the USSR was in a much less favourable position to be getting involved then. Hence the lack of support from Russia to the North, which was very limited.
Fact is that the Tet offensive by the communists turned out to be a complete failure for them; after the counterattack of the Americans the Vietcong was almost completely defeated; it was the public opnion in the USA that influenced the course of the Vietnamwar. The Tet offensive actually was a communist defeat. I agree that father and son Snow forget this part of history in this documentary.
dont blame the media the US military/politicians lost the vietnam war. The PAVN and NLF tactics where superior to the US Military. The US had many constraints that made them inadequate. For example they couldnt invade the North due to China entering the war. The US commanders chose attrition which didnt work.
We all know Vietnam lost more people, America never lost anything but dispensable soldiers... Vietnam lost 30 men to each American killed. It's called politics, it's like America dick slapped Vietnam and left... look at Vietnam today, still a useless country. America invaded, killed motherfuckers, burned homes and left.
12GaugeLosAngeles the kill ratio is actually 3 - 1 when you add the south vietnamese and other allies casualties. Research and dont buy the propaganda accounts. ps better to live poor in freedom than be a bitch to imperialists.
@12GaugeLosAngeles: u are such an idiot, VN is a very developing country today. The US lost only 4000 lives in Iraq while 58000 US soldiers were killed in Vietnam. The reason why more Vietnamese died than American is because the american bombed villages, shot civilians, killed children and raped women
Let's not forget it was not only the US which was fighting on South Vietnam's side eh. ARVN was grossly incompetent, and who can blame them. They had a corrupt government which the public had little support for, they had little will to fight.
US military had many constraints yes. Like the enemy VC being able to cross borders into Cambodia or whever and them not being able to follow.
North Vietnam did have some military power, couple this with expert guerrilla fighters the VC, difficult war.
The public supported the south vietnamese government more than the communists. Why do you think over a million people fled when the NVA invaded after we left?
@JoeJuve2k7 No, the wagers of that immoral and unnecessary war lost it themselves, for self-evident reasons. The media acted as a recorder of historical fact. Your logic is similar to Nixon's: "If we could just unite, we would win a just peace in Vietnam" meaning, stand behind the war machine, so North Vietnam doesn't perceive any weakness.
@zenpaganwarrior NO after the tet offensive where the americans destroyed the northern troops all the papers did was show vietcong attacking troops in saigon which gave everyone the impression they were gettin their arses kicked and support for the war plummeted that was the norths only real major full scale offensive and the americans wiped the floor with them the media did sell out the fucking troops its a fact
You're right in Tet Offensive the NVA and VC got their asses handed to them. US and South Vietnam and allies could have won this war, if it wasn't for US media and politicians, and hippies.
you americans think you country is the best when you've been there less than 400 years supressed the natives there and when you got beaten at the battle of little bighorn, you immortalised the commander who was a selfish ignorant bastard and responsible for the loss
Yeah, but without US how you gonna win WWI and WWII. British are of 2nd or even 3rd grade.
70 thousands not so well equipped Japanese defeated well over 2500000 troops in Malaysia due to incompetence British command which always timidly put Indian troops at the front, followed by Ausssie and KIwi while those pure British invalid stayed behind for tea.
dam right, we took the fighting out of the trenches, developed tank warfare, the aircraft carrier and the tactics which typified the character of warfare for the decades to come.
@wwaattssoonn0 all your facts are correct but we did save you from becoming overwhelmed in both world wars and it's not us that helped you in Iraq it's you that helped us well actually we fought along side each other in both Iraq wars but we did kick our ass in 1776
