  • Great Tom Waits Lyrics

  • Anyone who likes this should go listen to Dead Can Dance

  • I did a cover version of this song after hearing the Alison Krauss version. I felt how dark it was, and had to do it in my style... Hope you like...

  • beautiful. my son naps to this album every day :)

  • Intensely haunting melody and intricate melody! Breathtaking video you've made!

    Thank you!

  • She has such a beutiful voice and after discovering this album I was amazed. not her typical bluegrass blues. Robert plant alson does a great job in nothin, together they did an awesome job. Farley CA

  • Not bad for a Tom Waits cover.

Not many people can pull of Tom Waits covers.

  • @InjecteDVenoM I totally agree.

  • Check out my video for this song, its composed of footage I shot while backpacking my way across South America last year. It strangely works very well with this beautiful song...

  • Thank-you, great job!!!!! And hope there will be more.

  • Awesome version of this song. I personally like the Carolina Chocolate Drops version a little more, one man one banjo. both are great non the less

  • not usually a fan of mr. waits cover songs but this is really quite good.

  • so beautifully haunting is her voice...

makes the lyrics seem to swirl

    ghostlike thru the air....

    and your video...AMAZING!

  • I have never heard this, it is so hauntingly beautiful...... wow.

  • I am just happy that the rest of the world can enjoy the sometimes angelic, and sometimes haunting quality of Alison Krauss' voice that those of us who listen to bluegrass have enjoyed for years. I understand why many people don't like bluegrass, but nobody should go without hearing Krauss sing at least once.

  • yes ,marimbas

  • Yep, I'd say the rest was history

but then history does not usually

    remember the very best.

    good job, touched my heart...

  • Great version of the song. Few artist can manage to compete with the fantastic Mr Waits.

  • my wife is still a little dicky. Can you see her as the girl she became, seated at a chipped white table, her wires ad fuses spread arond her?

  • that girl is unbelivable

  • Stunning photo collage Edelweiss. Edelweiss-love the name.

  • A beautiful cover of a great Tom Waits song.

  • devils song

  • anybody out there who can help me identify the instruments used on this song ?

    I guess (!) I can hear:

    - double bass,

    - hammered dulcimer,

    - xylophone,

    - acoustic guitar,

    - violin,

    - djembe (? - what is it for a drum ?)

    Thanks for your help !

  • you forgot banjo.

  • Thank you very much !

That means so far there is:

    - double bass,

    - hammered dulcimer,

    - xylophone,

    - acoustic guitar,

    - banjo

    - violin,

    - djembe (? - what is it for a drum ?)

anybody with anymore ideas or suggestions ?

  • Banjo! Autoharp/Dulcimer (or sampled one) makes the ringing staccato notes in chorus.

  • beautiful song.. I love it

  • I can only wish music like this will last with all the bad music out there!

    Beautiful!

  • Wow! Fantastic use of still photography to complement this song. A perfect montage, very artistic, and I loved the sculptures. Will have to check out your studio. A+

  • Grandioso...........5 *****

  • oh boy....

  • Great studio song...10 times better live, Alison seems to have two voices live and the effect is un believable.

  • This song brings to mind Kate Campbell's Signs Following and Ralph Stanley's version of the traditional Oh Death.

  • My GF put together a CD for me since I was taking a LONG drive. I had no idea who performed this song, but did an extensive search and tracked it down....SO glad I did. Awesome...her voice is exceptional.

  • Honestly I love the album because they really take some of the best songs from some of the best artists and give them due attention and appreciation. Tom Waits who wrote this one is one of those artists whose music has made profound influence yet he finds greatest audience through covers. Also Townes VanZandt's Nothin' and the Everly Bros. always a good time

  • I'm a trampled rose. Hauntingly beautiful! And no wonder ya'll won the Grammy for the best album of the year!

    Kick-Ass!

  • This is a beautiful song. But I have to say.. I love Robert Plant and support his efforts to explore his musical talent. But.. this gets hard to listen to over a period of time. Come on Robert.. don't sell out!

  • Beautiful, beautiful and just beautiful, thanks for uploading edelweissstudio. The imagery that you have created for this song is "so there" that is makes you just lose yourself into it. Many thanks. This album was such a delight and a surprise as I am a zep fan, RP really got into this album and sung some pretty amazing cords that I did not imagine that I would hear although occaissonaly there was a glimpse of his old self there too. Alison just sang like an angel. So perfect.

  • I love the shifts from 4/4 time to 5/4 and back. One of my favorites from this great album.

  • Now i listen to all genres, western classical, indian classical, trance, heavy metal, blues, jazz because thats the way i am, I absolutely love this song, though i'm curious as to which genre it would fall into>

  • Interesting question. Tom Waits will sometimes be played on the few folk music stations about. Both Alison and Robert are attracted to darker music and this so suits their sensibilities. This is a fabulous recording that I never tire of listening to.

  • I agree, the dark, beautiful voice of Alison is a completement to Tom Waits incredible lyrics..

  • This is one of my favorite Tom Waits songs. Ms Krauss does a tremendous job here - haunting, evocative and absolutely beautiful in every way that matters

  • Spellbinding

  • What a beautiful song! I am so going to upload this!

  • you mean download? :\

  • haha yeah. I feel like such a dork.

  • I heard this album 1st time on a plane to NY from Dubai on Emirates. I had never heard of it or its release. So imagine, wow, great music .. Who What when...was my reaction. Anyway, Still remember that moment. Nice work btw. :

  • This track encompasses what is so amazing about this album, in that it makes Alison sing in way she never has before. The same can be said about Robert Plant, througout the album. They both sang in ways they have never sung before, with glorious effect.

  • excellent slideshow, really well chosen photos that compliment the music perfectly. Thank you!

  • 12,000 people in the business of recorded music are showing the popular listening public what they think is missing in the recording and performing arts with this years choice in album and song. Interesting choice this year but so was last years winner Amy Weinhouse. Looks like earthy roots music is what the academy is leaning towards these days. The peoples choice awards are the publics popularity contest. The grammys are the music industry popularity contest.

    Congrats Alison & Robert.

  • It doesn't really matter what anybody says on here, so why do people care what any of you think? I'm not sure I would have ever known who Robert Plant was if it weren't for Krauss.

  • Wow that's pretty sad that you wouldn't have known about Robert Plant. You should research your musical history. I hope you don't call yourself a fan of popular music.

  • I don't think there is anything sad about the fact that I'm not a led zep fan. I know who they are, but no, I don't listen to them. I was born in the 80's. My point is that the two of them working together has opened up new music to fans who otherwise may not have ever given Plant a second thought.

  • hey..it doesn't matter how you heard of robert plant..what matters is you heard of him..he has so many different style..but the greats should never be forgotten...

  • I don't know why narrow minded fucks even comment. There limited brain don't know shit about music go listen to soulja boy and lil wayne punk. I bet this dude never listened to a led zep cd in his life. And if your lil momma had a voice like Alison i'd be all over that. This shit is genuine i love my rap dude but come on open your little mind and if you don't like it bitch shut the fuck up. "PUNK"

  • wow i dont need to even say anything just by reading your name

    stfu and dont insult this

  • are you suggesting that your mom and dad are siblings?

  • Are you suggesting the Big Bird is the second coming of christ?

  • This song is so gorgeous. Just enjoy.

  • This song is growing on me. In answer to the question, Alison is soloing on this particular song.

  • ..............is robert plant even in this?

  • shes not screwing up Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant does not want to do a reunion because he says it's not the same without John Bonham. But man, i wish they could do one last reunion or at least play somewhere like they did when their band manager died.

  • Nonsense. Krauss has 21 grammys for her work in bluegrass, she certainly doesn't need Plant.

I think Plant said it well himself that he views this collaboration as an adventure that reminds him of the golden inspirations that pushed him into music in the first place (I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist of the quotation).

Plant doesn't seem to worried about getting Zeppelin back together. Krauss has nothing to do with it.

  • WTF where's robert plant???

  • the little box is full of shit!!!

  • Well done. I like the song...So touching...

    Thank you!

  • Excellent Thank you for posting This is a wonderful video

  • Though I'm certainly a Tom Waits fan, I have to say this version of "Trampled Rose" surpasses the original. And this video is well done, too.

  • I agree. I love Waits' original, but I saw the Raising Sand tour this summer, and Kraus' rendition of this song just made me shiver. It's so fantastically haunting.

    -D

  • LED ZEPPELIN REUNION TOUR AGAIN!!!!

  • Very Artistic. I like the imagination and creativity you put into this.

  • What's with two oceans red wine....do you market them? I love your photo's....but Robert and alison need to be in them...Cheers

  • I think the wine has to do with the phrase "ocean of wine", which appears in the song "Top of the Hill", which is on Blood Money, the same Waits album as "Trampled Rose". Maybe? That's the best I can muster.

Also, the line "kisses sweeter than wine", which actually does appear in this song.

    Just a thought.

    -D

  • not a tom waits fan. she sings well though.

  • No buddy, you swallow.

  • You talk of capacity when you yourself can't even grasp the depth of complex, surreal, music. Why dont you grab the lyrics for The Soldier's Song and kindly shove it.

  • What a piece of art, music and video congratulations !!

  • 5*****

  • Long live Tom Waits, his magic is spreading.

  • I saw Robert and Alison do this live last week. Alison's vocals are PERFECT and so hauntingly beautiful. Gorgeous video!

  • Lovable. Great work!

  • Beautiful!

    Great music and wonderful pictures!

  • amazing. simply amazing. beautiful photography. beautiful song.

  • The photographs are magnificent!

  • This is an absolutely awesome video! the pictures totally match the music, which is amazing.

  • this is a Tom Waits song, just so you know

  • Reminds me a little of Ry Cooder's music.

  • She has a very soulful sound....reminds of the young Plant in Going to California..... Their both are very soulful musician in different genre.... That is why this album is so explosive and unique.... but also harminous.....wow!!!!

  • I've found myself listening to this over and over.... it moves something deep inside me like few things do. The entire effort by these two is nothing short of spectacular.

  • lovely video,nice pic's..she sing's like a angel...great tom waits cover..good job..

  • An exquisite, breathtaking, masterpiece. I so agree with all the comments made. This is YT at it's finest. How fortunate we are to be able to have this medium to see such incredible art.

    Thank you .. Namaste.

  • As haunting as this song is , what is so amazing is this entire album is absolutely brilliant. A chance gathering of so many talented musicians and they have created something very special.

  • two oceans :(

  • Many oceans, only one sky

  • pretty. i love this song.

  • beautiful! I love the photography and the song is so emotional. I am going to get to see this concert in B'ham Ala on the 26th of April and can't wait! until then, I'll just keep watching this video.. thanks for making it. :)

  • Thanks Starsumnea, it is indeed an emotional song, which is why people love it so much

I just used the same theme pieces to produce a video to the 'Fortune Teller' soundtrack from the same Raising Sand CD. Its a fascinating video thanks to the inspiring and hauntingly beautiful music of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss- hope you enjoy the show n B'ham Ala on the 26th of April

  • while the song is emotional, your photography and editing of the pictures together takes my breath away.. not to mention your "many oceans only one sky" comment.. that says so very much.

  • Nice job. The desert background photos made this song better for me than when I listened to it without them. The Native American drum style drum seemed out of context before your video. Alison Krauss' voice makes me think that if I had to choose to be blind or deaf I would choose blindness. I can't

    imagine a world without music.

  • "Alison Krauss' voice makes me think that if I had to choose to be blind or deaf I would choose blindness. I can't

imagine a world without music. "

I totally agree. I couldn't live without music.

  • I know that rose like i know my name

what I gave my love, it was the same

now I find it in the street a trampled rose...

    Tom Waits "Real Gone" 2004

  • a haunting and heartfelt amen

    thank you

  • Beautiful, haunting song. Very good video. Kind of looked like a commercial for the wine for a minute, but still very well done. Love the Raising Sand disk. This a Polly Come Home are 2 of my fav slower songs.

  • Yeah me too- lovers both songs big time. 'Raising Sand' is for sure a collectors album

  • great imagination!

  • I agree, anticipation for the blend.

  • Very beautiful interpretation!
