@UrLuv10 Maybe, I think (but I might be wrong) that maybe the possible the band lost a friend or knew about someone commiting suicide, and so the song is almost like a guideline on how to literally save someones life. Go to Google and search up the lyrics and read them with the song, thats what I did. :) But the line 'Somewhere along in the bitterness' seems like it wasen't about suicide. So maybe we're both right! :)

@noga55 You're kinda right... it's based on Isaac Slade's experience as a youth mentor at a camp for troubled kids in... Colorado? (somewhere) There was a 17yo kid who was an addict who had basically screwed up his whole life and Slade wrote this based on what happened with that kid and is a direct mirror of singer/subject and Slade/that kid and lamenting the fact that try as he might, he didn't know how to help...
