@RustArtRed And you are right, you will learn the MOST from the path your mentioned previously. You will network and make contacts who will help you find a job before you become that RN. Like you, I was laid off and had to find something I loved. I have no kids but I feel like me taking care of patients is my practice : )
I wish you the best of luck and thank you again for sharing!
@RustArtRed I think moving up the ladder in that fashion is a great idea but most people don't have the funds or time to get all of those diplomas or certifications. Most people go straight to RN because they know that's what they want but I love your comment and appreciate your sharing. I myself was a Nurse Tech and wouldn't be who I am without it : )
my wife is a RN, and sometimes when she calls the team doctor(s) for the patient, she is up front, and informs the doctor on what SHOULD be done, and sometimes; especially during night shifts, the doctor just goes with whatever she prescribes is the best course of action. Team doctors normally in her hospital have medi students, so she 'informs' them of what should be done, even though she still has to go through the resident to confirm the order.
@Broccoli3411 Yes, nurses usually know exactly what they need. We usually just call the physician simply for the order. A nurse never calls for an "answer." We tend to have the answer before we call, we just need the yes to get the script to pharmacy . Your wife seems to do exactly what many of us do, thanks for sharing this great story. Many students and nurses will appreciate this : )
@osisano Night shift is awesome. I sleep during the day and I black out all my windows in my bedroom. I close my door and cut off all electronics. Sleeping during the day isn't that bad, plus I'm a deep sleeper haha!
