i liked this game back in the day but looking back, it was more of a fad game, like a mix between mortal kombat and street fighter but with tekken linking combos. but what was great was Rare's cgi graphics for the game which were pretty impressive at the time.

I remember being ten when Killer instinct 2 was released (saw 2 before I ever knew there was a 1) I had just learned about liquid nitrogen and saw glacius and thought "a man made of liquid nitrogen!" he was my favorite character aside from Jago (because I loved Ninjas) then i bought the SNES version of KI (I had yet to upgrade to the 64 and this was before Gold was released anyway) I quickly found a new favorite: TJ Combo.... that guy has some of teh most fun to pull off combos of all the chars.

I've never played this. It looks really simple though, but good. Is this more like MK, where it is a button masher and anyone can do this, or is it like street fighter, with deep but easy to learn gameplay and youre just a pro.

I had been playing the snes version of this for a long time but then i got this mame version working.I had got used to the snes graphics so when i started playing this one i realy couldnt help but notice the how much better it was.The snes version is still very good though,the programers did an amazing job when you consider the machines limitations.

Who would've guessed we'd advance so early to render KI's SGI graphics in REALTIME less than a decade later!

Very little else advances as quickly as CPU processing power and programming (and optimization) techniques.

RARE sure used these SGI-graphics (Silicon Graphics Interface) to create EPIC content (games).

Donkey Kong Country 2 is my favorite of their SGI creations.

Goldeneye007 is my favorite RARE game of ALL TIME

They should definitely have this on XBLA. I drool when I think how awesome the lightning effects would be in a KI XBLA version. Check out the lightning effects in Geometry Wars 2 and then imagine them as Jago's endokuken or other such lightning projectiles that are in Killer Instinct.

By the way, Mame emulation is much better in KI 1 & 2 than in U64emu, the latter has some bugs and sometimes I got it frozen.

U need 'Killer Instinct (v1.5d)' along with the "kinst.CHD" file. Make sure the KI rom is in the folder 'roms' and that u put the kinst.chd file into a folder titled, 'kinst' that is also IN the roms folder. It should work then.

Naw. Not all roms require extensive files or data, but MAME will tell you everything you need if a rom isn't working--just "audit" a game before you try to enable it in MAME then copy n paste the results into notepad or something, then I'm sure everyone knows how to use google, right? ^_~

I agree. Well, Tekken works (the emulators won't enable any rom if it's only missing even one file) but is too laggy with the off-synced sounds and such. Through experience, MAME does not work well with 3-D Environment arcades. MAME will tell you if you're missing any files and the types of files--not all game companies have the same data complex as one another. You should try a stronger graphics card--that might help?

The Insert Coin 1 button is usually the "1" key on your keyboard. I think the "5" key is Player One Start. To change the keys manually press the "Tab" key. MameUI32 is the best emulator for playing all the high end mame games (KI1, KI2, UMK3, SF3-Third Strike Ect.). They all work flawlessly on my PC at maximum speed! But the other Mame emulators are slow and choppy with sound problems.
