I love her too. I remember having an Airfix kit when I was a lad. And sometimes I can see her taking off from Brno Int'l airport, making horrible noise! I hope some of them will survive!!!
it's not really a taxpayer's role during bad economic times to preserve outdated aircraft so enthusiasts can watch them at air shows. Get together and buy it if you're interested in that.
@weversonman Is it the taxpayer's role to pay for scrapping these aircraft and buy American hand-me-downs to replace them? Because that's what's happening (same as with the Nimrod MRA4).
Was privileged to spend a morning over the North Sea in a VC10 a few years ago, refuelling Tornados. Lovely comfy old girl, the pilots loved her to bits and one of them was not looking forward to going out to the States for training on the C17 before they brought the first ones over. Long may the joy of Conways shake the Oxfordshire countryside!
If at least three of these birds are NOT preserved in airworthy condition, I will come and spray paint the UK's defense ministers cat PINK ! ......and THEN I will write to the editor of a Big Newspaper telling everyone how UN British he ( she ) is.
Hey, they're classic aircraft now you know! The RAF can't carry on with them for much longer, there are so many noise bans on this old bird, she can only use military airfields in the USA. Those four Conway engines were cutting edge in their day, but very dated now.
A VC10 was used as the test bed for the RB211 engine, the remains of the airframe are in the Movements School hanger at Brize, it being a cut down version it's nick named the VC5.
at the end of the day this is very old technology,an aircraft that dates from the early 1960`s but it has served the RAF with distinction and it is a shame they are being gradually retired but I guess that`s progress.
Shes Beautiful, Shame the RAF are slowly getting rid of there VC10's, Would be a shame to see her in the scrap Yard, Such a Beautiful Aircraft deserves so much better.
