@Storartat I agree. Yes it IS sad, but depressing is too strong for it. I'm amazed by how they made me empathize with the characters so much. I mean I was almost crying every episode since its mid season. I tip my hat to everyone behind the creation of this anime.
Empathizing with the characters is right. All that unrequited love, the things they wanted to say to each other but left unsaid until the end, losing a best friend, ugh. It's definitely not depressing, but I think people find things relevant to their lives in this anime, and that's what's beautiful. I love this one, a lot =)
I cannot say that it is SO depressing. The ending may be sad because Menma has to go, but I think it is a perfect ending. I love the part when Menma said "You found me" and then everyone is able to see her. That was the best part since through all episodes, only Jinta can see her and at last... the others are able to see to say good bye to her. It is really touching and sweet and I am glad that everyone is able to become friends again.
I'm dropped a couple tears when u showed part of your reaction to the ending. That scenes jus gets me and the ending song thats playin during makes it no better. I cant do nothin but tear up
I almost cried to this anime. I know I am weird I didn't cry! But that's because I have restrained myself from crying for a long time now,and I have built an ''immunity'' to it. Which is really sad. But still this anime cut right through that "Immunity" and I had to force myself again not to cry.
@zeHatWearingMan I used to believe I was like this. I felt I was immune to crying, but after a very OUTSTANDING leadership program, I just cried at the final dance. I had never cried before then since I was about 10(6 years ago). What made me cry was an inner reflection of myself in others. I think you didn't cry, and I didn't cry(though pretentious to say this) because we do not feel exactly what the characters feel. I definitely sympathized, but didn't empathize(which makes it personal)
It was the most touching anime i ever watched in my life. My brother was the one introduced me this. I at first thought that is not that all sad and emotional as what described by my brother. But when i watched it, starting from episode 3 i could already feel the flow of emotional outburst. I watched anime one shot off...no stops no pauses. And it really made me shed lots of tears.
manly tears were shed. and EVERY time i talk about this show, i bring up the ending. i dont spoil it completely, but O... M... G... i cant keep it together when i describe it! its so sad and makes you cry!
obviously, there are those who didnt cry. some people just arnt as emotionally open as others. i always say "crying just shows your human". i dont care if i cry. that shows im human, im imperfect, and i have feelings for different things.
I cried so much when i watched the end, i feel like a fag saying i cried since it's just a cartoon, but somehow it really touched me, btw everyone says clannad made them cray but i watched the first episode and i didn't really get it . Great review though, man.
Just listening to your review is bringing tears to my eyes, listening, reminiscing the amazing series. What a wonderful and beautiful series it was.Thank you ~ for the review
ill just say this this is the third anime to make me cry....the first was Angel Beats, the second was Clannad After Story, and then this....this is one of the best animes i have ever seen. i highly recommend (by the way you will need tissues by the last episode).
Ano Hana is just superb. i couldnt help but recomend this anime to a load of people. me im kind of reserved so i dont show to many emotions, but this show had me crying like a little girl!! this anime is a great example of what anime is. its something different that pulls on your heart strings in just the right way. this is an anime i am definitely looking forward to rewatching.
It left me so empty, I feel as though it stole something from me, I finished watching it last night and was crying so bad, hugging my stuff frog *girl here* and I couldn't breathe, it was that emotionally gripping, the best SHOJO EVER! For me if I was a Male I would choose Menma, she is the motherly type, caring, gentle, and she loves everyone...although I am more like Anaru/Tsuruko
I cried because i childhood friends just like this Jinta: Deven (my bestest friend i loved litteraly) Tetsudo: Cody (silly funny devens best buddie) Naruko: Jessica (my best friend) Chiriko: Shannon (me and jessicas friend) atsumu well we didn't have another friend like that but we all lived close jessica and deven lived next door to me cody went to our school rode our bus he lived a few neighboorhoods over and shannon lived neighboorhood over we were best friends intill deven cody shannon moved
@silverclawwarriorcat they moved on to highschool we were in diffrent grades deven moved to a diffrent highschool then cody and shannon me and shannon and jessica got in a big fight so we dont talk to shannon anymore jessica is one grade younger than me and ill be in highschool next year jessica will still be in middle and deven and me still like each other but we grew apart gradualy
I also think one of the reasons why the "child love lasts forever!" did last forever was because Menma just died. Which ruined the entire Super Peace Busters clan, so they never really got a chance to get over their feelings, becuase it all just ended. Poof! And Menma was gone...
I was wondering how they were going to give Poppo the sob story in the last episode, because he seemed to be the fifth wheel. But they explained it perfectly. That must have been traumatizing!
I just finished watching it, and I mean around an hour ago becuase it's taken so long quiet myself. It's around midnight, and I wanted to scream. I was making really weird sounds and silently screaming. I cried all the way from the part when Saa showed up till now. And the voice acting: amazing! This show would not have been half as good if the voice actors were not as good. I'm so glad FUNimation is looking into dubbing it, not only becuase I love FUNimation, but so I can get the DVDS!
I thought it was great to watch an anime which tackled a serious subject.
To me the show had some flaws which downgrated it a bit, but not enough to take away from all the good in it. There were some of the characters who could've used a bit more developement, but I understand if the studio didn't have time and money enough to fully flesh everyone out.
In the end it was a beautiful story and it fucking hurt. Not gonna lie, I cried most of the time watching it. I felt so sorry for EVERYONE.
Okay, so I was watching this video at about maybe 10 AM this morning, and I thought "What a fucking bitch, this shit can't be that bad."
So I go and check this shit out, and jesus christ. This faggot's tears weren't from just being a beta faggot, that shit literally just reduces you to tears.
i just finished watching this anime..i LOVED it! theres so much crappy anime out there that gets in the way of good ones so im so glad i found anohana..much character development and it was short, but sometimes i like the shorter animes..i definitely got emotional for every episode but the last one made my cry like crazyy
The letters really did spark the tears out of my eyes really, i'm guessing that was when i started breaking into them or was it earlier, Iunno the whole episode just made me cry that it was over and that Menma was heading out to sea, and never really coming back. "I love you like the kind that I want to marry you" or something around those lines has got to be the most craziest, cutest thing i have ever heard ever. but yeah, Ano Hana was amazing, and it'll always get ya crying at some point.
I fucking cried like a girl when I watched the last few episode, especially the parts when it involves Menma and Jin-tan's mothers. :(( I'm a tough guy with a callous and insensitive attitude my friends say, but these kinds of stories makes me look brittle and sensitive. Best anime drama I've watched since Clannad. :( Arggghh. Even the mere song makes me cry.
the name isen't really anohana so if it would come to the america on dub my guess is that the would use the original name in jappanese or in english that would be (we still dont know the name of the flower we saw that day) but im with you guys very depresing anime i loved it the caracters were awsome the story was beutiful and it's one of the few anime i have wached the opening and the ending of each episode it is worth thee time.
Me and my friend watched this the first 1 minute and the scene played in the corner and i didnt know if we were laughing or crying but we were for no known reason fully hysterical. And then we stopped. But like, we love Ano Hana. A LOT.
I don`t think Ano Hana is depressing i think it just beaultiful it shows love u now love about friends and the void of loseing something sorry about the confusing comment but it`s the best i can do xD
I loved this anime!!!! I just funished i and watched it all in one day! I just couldn't stop!!! I got so wrapped up in it, that in the end even the ending song made me cry at one point. Let me tell you, I felt pathetic!!!! But the show is just so damn emotional I couldn't stop myself! i would definitely reccommend this anime to anyone now. Basically just to show them that anime is not just for kids, it is deep and meaningful. I'm 18 now, but I think people wouldnt judge me if I showed them this!
Anohana was great, I just wish there would have been more character development for the characters and more school-life scenes, but overall good anime to watch!
I absolutelly LOVED!!!!!!!!!!! Ano Hana!!!!!! It was amazing. However, to your note on what you didn't like about the show, I would have to say I agreed at first. I thought it was weird how they still loved each other. I think that they had nursed their feelings over the years-to the point where that didn't really feel them any more, but it was kinda like a safety raft/ floatie that they could cling to in that sea of loss. It was an incredibly SAD AND DEPRESSING ANIME~! and I loved it. : ).
God this was cool. I didn't watch the whole thing. I think I might have skipped through some of the eps for whatever reason. I like the real reaction this time, it was fitting, I loved it. Most people say things made them cry but did it really? Pffft, I freakin did. (Although I cry at happy scenes too...)
I really have to agree with you, that reaction was just so like me because i was just the same, im subscribe to you now for that that takes guts to do and dam i will support you as a fan you can expect likes and everything from me now because that was amazing
If there going to a english dub they voice actor for mema needs to be perfect :O
I like your review I never really cried about anime before.... This anime is one of the best and probably shouter have another season to see what there life is like after mema goes to heaven...
what was your goal..you wanted all ths 40.000 people to see you cry?
cause they will think you are sensitive?
i mean...those 40.000 people..complete you when you upload them videos of that kind?
serioulsy i dont wanna offend you..but...i didnt like what i saw.and i think that by the time you upload something, you are ready for any kind of judgment..
i dont wanna discourage you of what you do.just tell me why.WHY?
@ZackAceZero I think you're over thinking it, I didn't upload it to 'complete me' that's absurd. I did it cause I did it, it's not my fault. Anyone that say 'oh this show made me cry', but can they prove it?
to answer the question, anaru hands down, i mean, the whole menma character, to me, was a metaphor of that which didn't allow them to move on, she was real in the anime but i shaped her as the reflection of guilt and i say this because they see her grown up. she's the guilt that grew up with them . that's why once they accepted all that guilt they were able to see her. Anaru on the other hand was an actual character that's why i choose her as the best female character.
i think the show is very emotional very good, i mean every body would like to go back and undo something... yet in some supernatural way they all do which allows them to move on with their lives... this show is brilliant one of the few shows that has such intense story in such a short run, angel beats! for example, another great show, but in my opinion 13 eps was way to few to explain everything. toradora another great show had a good run 25 eps but they rushed to the end.
You know i bet the ending wouldn't be as depressing if they showed like a younger version of Menma( Some little girl, maybe 7) walking pass Jintan, looking all happy and him seeing her and smiling and then end it cause that would have made me cry tears of joy, Love the anime so much even if the whole thing is still so depressing.
I watched the end completely by myself and I only shed like one tear during it. I'm not lying when I was completely disappointed with myself and felt like a complete jerk. I totally felt all of the sadness and I was on the brink, but it was somehow just disappointing beyond belief when I saw that I didn't cry over such an emotional ending like that D:
As I was watching the episode I felt all the emotions and got all the emotional shivers, but the tears just refused to come. And I felt so bad about it, as if I were a non-emoting bastard who didn't have any feelings. Gahh, it's frustrating thinking, "I'm sad beyond belief, and I should be crying, but why in the hell isn't it happening?" I definitely USED to cry easily over endings like this, but now it just isn't the same. Maybe I'm outta tears. HOW DO I FIX THIS?
You spoke really fast :P, besides i don't speak english but u have a point of what u said about "if know someone who doesn't like anime, tell them to watch ano hana", it's totally true, for series like this it's why i like anime, and if knew someone who wanted to see its first anime i would definitely think in this anme to recomend :)
Too bad kana little sister isnt a anime its just a visual novel ...it would probably be just as sad..depending on which path but its just sad. Great review btw :D. And i love this show it was amazing
Awesome vid dude.............for awhile rainbow was my top emotional show but I think this show just matched up with it or beat it......... Lmao I tend to avoid these kinda shows since they really fuck with my mind O_o lol
At the very end of this episode my first tears were already dropped onto the floor and in my head I was screaming "GIVE ME A TWIST! GIVE ME A TWIST! GIVE ME A TWIST! GIVE ME A TWIST!"
@omgnoway23 I actually dropped that series I got way too bored of it, everythings got predictable. Try to watch Angel Beats and you'll see clannad as a laughing stock xD
This anime out of all of them left me utterly broken until the last moment where they wrapped it up perfectly with her smile. I am not one to cry while watching anime like this, but... it was beautiful.. so beautiful... and I would recommend this to anyone with a heart or anyone who hasn't had their heart strings torn out of them in a while. The characters are so cute and consistent throughout the episodes enough to make you connect with them. (◕ . ◕) せーのっ!!( ;O ;) めんま見つけた❤!!!!
I felt sorry for Poppo, too. He really grew on me and usually I don't think much of the "Big guy" type since they tend to be really shallow. Not so with Poppo! I consider him my favourite.
I only watched this episode RAW so far, I was able to understand a good portion of it, but I haven't watched it with subtitles yet because I could not stand crying like that again! Really, this series is the best of the season, it got a little narmy at times with the drama (like the crying fest in the first part of this episode), but it only did that once or twice and overall had great pacing. It used every second to create a solid story with great characters, I even liked the tsundere (Anaru)!
I actually couldn't cry much during the first 10 episodes (which I watched all in one night before episode 11 came out), I'd tear up, but no waterfalls...and then...episode 11...Letter reading scene....BAM! MY ROOM WAS FLOODED WITH TEARS. I actually wanted the series to go on a bit more, but then I realized the ending was perfect. c: I can't look at an Ano Hana picture without tearing up. orz''
I understand crying in long running anime that you can actually form a kind of bond with the characters, but 11 episodes? Albeit i found it good and very emotional I didn't cry.
@fossil98 Crying proves that Ano Hana is masterpiece. It is found to be a good anime because of its good storytelling, It grabs the audience as this story can be easily relatable towards the audience, It just goes to prove that these characters are true friends....I seriously doubt that I have even 1 true friend who will cry for me if I were to die...
What did I think of AnoHana? The show itself was great. Everything was really great, but the show didn't have that magical addictive factor some other shows have (Haruhi1, Madoka...). The ending was a bit stretched on, but it was a nice way to wrap things up. Definitely one of the better shows I've seen and a highlight of this season.
Going off-topic - i that a guitar in the corner of your room? Do you play it? ;> (and what do you play? anime songs? ;>)
steins;gate and anohana are very different, both are awesome animes can't say whats the best this season but for drama obviously ano hana, for triller obviously steins;gate
actually i liked dog days.. at first it kinda goes for the ecchi.. but later it is a very good story (not lying here) i recommend it, cause i had a good time watching it..
Woah i cant believe all the people that didnt cry :O
I was crying my eyes out! and had to pause the episode cuz i couldnt see D: but as soon as it started playing i was crying again *-* my sleeves were soaked and my eyes were all red and puffy >.< i stayed in my room for a while till my face looked normal again xD
I loved ano hana, one of the best releases this spring,,,,,(but i also love AnE + deadman wonderland) .im a girl who gets to emotionally involved with animes x'3
as for the top anime of the season, my favourite is steins gate but ao no exorcist is deffinitely showing to have a lot of the viewers (probably because of the manga)
@SuicideSilencer That's funny! While I was at the scene where they were all at the shrine letting out all the guilt they felt in front of each other, my mom entered the room. Totally ruined the moment.
@OrgXV Oh and what I thought about the show...I loved it. Just loved it. Loved every episode and I love how the endthing theme comes in at the right times. Makes it so much more emotional.
One of my favorite anime ever. After that scene a few episodes back when Poppo and Menma are alone I kept thinking 'please let one guy in this anime not be a lolicon' and damn, when the shrine scene happened and he broke down I couldn't stop crying. Think I've watched it at least 10 times now, it was a depressing ending but I liked the way they left the pairings kinda open-ended, unless they do an OVA or something. It would be cool if Menma got reincarnated as Jintan and Anaru's daughter though.
Depressing is quite the wrong word to describe it.

I wonder what Menma had reincarnated into?
sinnad07 7 months ago
I absolutelly LOVED!!!!!!!!!!! Ano Hana!!!!!! It was amazing. However, to your note on what you didn't like about the show, I would have to say I agreed at first. I thought it was weird how they still loved each other. I think that they had nursed their feelings over the years-to the point where that didn't really feel them any more, but it was kinda like a safety raft/ floatie that they could cling to in that sea of loss. It was an incredibly SAD AND DEPRESSING ANIME~! and I loved it. : ).

Oh my..I cried so hard. I teared up in the first few episodes, cried some in the 10th, and freaking bawled in the 11th.

Menma needs to be voiced by Stephanie Sheh! I swear to god if its freaking Luci Christian I'm not gonna watch it.

you didnt get my question...
what was your goal..you wanted all ths 40.000 people to see you cry?
cause they will think you are sensitive?
i mean...those 40.000 people..complete you when you upload them videos of that kind?
serioulsy i dont wanna offend you..but...i didnt like what i saw.and i think that by the time you upload something, you are ready for any kind of judgment..
i dont wanna discourage you of what you do.just tell me why.WHY?
ZackAceZero 7 months ago

KenshinUC 7 months ago
i think the show is very emotional very good, i mean every body would like to go back and undo something... yet in some supernatural way they all do which allows them to move on with their lives... this show is brilliant one of the few shows that has such intense story in such a short run, angel beats! for example, another great show, but in my opinion 13 eps was way to few to explain everything. toradora another great show had a good run 25 eps but they rushed to the end.

I totally felt all of the sadness and I was on the brink, but it was somehow just disappointing beyond belief when I saw that I didn't cry over such an emotional ending like that D:
blacky1448 8 months ago
As I was watching the episode I felt all the emotions and got all the emotional shivers, but the tears just refused to come. And I felt so bad about it, as if I were a non-emoting bastard who didn't have any feelings. Gahh, it's frustrating thinking, "I'm sad beyond belief, and I should be crying, but why in the hell isn't it happening?" I definitely USED to cry easily over endings like this, but now it just isn't the same. Maybe I'm outta tears. HOW DO I FIX THIS?

Dude, you get the most props that I can possibly give for several reasons:
1. You watched it in the first place, even though many guys would've left this 'girly' anime behind.
2. You openly called it amazing and understood all of the underlying feelings of the show.
3. You cried on camera. Most guys wouldn't even admit that they cried.
I'm now pressing the subscribe button.

I actually wanted the series to go on a bit more, but then I realized the ending was perfect. c: I can't look at an Ano Hana picture without tearing up. orz''
PikachiiDesu 8 months ago
I swear to god, people need to grow some testes.
I understand crying in long running anime that you can actually form a kind of bond with the characters, but 11 episodes? Albeit i found it good and very emotional I didn't cry.
fossil98 8 months ago 2
@fossil98 Crying proves that Ano Hana is masterpiece. It is found to be a good anime because of its good storytelling, It grabs the audience as this story can be easily relatable towards the audience, It just goes to prove that these characters are true friends....I seriously doubt that I have even 1 true friend who will cry for me if I were to die...
Gahlahad431 3 months ago
What did I think of AnoHana? The show itself was great. Everything was really great, but the show didn't have that magical addictive factor some other shows have (Haruhi1, Madoka...). The ending was a bit stretched on, but it was a nice way to wrap things up. Definitely one of the better shows I've seen and a highlight of this season.
Going off-topic - i that a guitar in the corner of your room? Do you play it? ;> (and what do you play? anime songs? ;>)
