Gosh Jiel, I've been trying to get this down for two years, still no progress with me though. But I do remember when I came across her video for this and was just like, "that looks easy, if I can do an ayesha on the pole, why can't I do this in the floor??" Tried it, and it is DEFINITELY NOT as easy as she makes it look. >.<
Still working on it though, and your looking pretty good with it! Congrats!
@stevieneurotic Hi Stevie! Thank you for the comment. It is a tricky move and I still can't always get it right. The key is keeping the legs as low as possible at first until balanced, then pushing them up and straight. I love her video, too. She actually sent me a comment once and I was very excited. I think she is fantastic and I wish she posted more vids now and then! /joel lessing
Your video is one of my FAVORITE tutorials and I still watch it frequently. Vraiment, a "International Pole Camp" au Canada, nous avons parlé au sujet de ton video, et il y'a des gens qui a essayé le mouvement aussi! /Joel Lessing
Oi Sebastien, why are you being so horrible? If I didn't like your hobbies I wouldn't tell you that you should 'wake up' and ask you what you hope to achieve!
There are males in my pole dancing group and no one tries to ridicule them. Do you have any idea how difficult pole dancing is? Why don't you stop questioning other people's hobbies and start one of your own that is more productive than trying to bring people down.
Poledancefan, well done, I still can't do this move!!
Hi Sebastien! Thank you for watching and enjoying my video--and taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment. To answer your question, the only thing I hope will happen is that I enjoy myself learning new skills and sharing them with others in the pole community. I don't think I'll "master" anything, lol--I'm a bit old for that now. As for waking up, well I'm nearly 50! I've got the opposite problem--too much coffee, burping and gas means I can't ever get to SLEEP! Thanks for watching!
Yes, and out of alllll the different skills one could possibly learn you decided to take up pole dancing of all things? I suppose everything else too boring or not exhilarating enough for you? Have you even bothered to ask yourself why you chose pole dancing instead of anything else or are you afraid of the answer?
LSebastien, I kept an extensive Blog of all my reasons inthe first videos two years ago. I loved watching the ladies who pole and enjoyed leaving comments about their work. Originally I did a video as a spoof or comic skit about putting up a pole in th house (Poledancefan's Wife Lays Down the Law). I went ahead and built it as a homebuilt project. I decided that if I was going to comment on the skills of others, I should try it myself. I also enjoy bike riding, weight lifting, spending time ..
with my wife and kids (well, they are almost grown!), reading, listening to music...and so on. I have other skills--I play guitar (terribly), and I am a ham radio operator (KB9EVA, and speak French tolerably well. I just do this stuff for the pure cussed fun of it--that's the ONLY reason. I am not "afraid" of that reason at all. I'm just having a blast, hopefully not harming anybody. Come on in, the water's FINE!!
@rachel: I think the French woman in the tutorial has a real advantage of flexibility. Watching her very carefully, I notice that she brings the lead leg up and out and, like a human teeter totter, allows it to "lift" the other leg up. So it seems she is really using her core just for balance. It seemd that when I tried it, I was straining to "push" my butt up with brute force!
Thanks Karol! You are absolutely right... I did do Jamilla's whole neck and shoulder stretch routine a good half hour before trying it. In the pole room, I had the mats stacked in front of the baby changing table (it's behind the curtain) which is weighted down with boxes of old clothes. It was my spotter. Same thing with Jacob's puke green chair! I had the seat cushion an inch from my butt! You are right about a hardwood floor. I tried it with Veena in Minnesota at BODYBLAST--much easier!
Wow Joel that was awesome~I've tried that one & its on the backburner for now~will have to come back to that one later lol. I must say poling is def getting u buff~u look great~always enjoy ur vids~that was a nice mssg @ the end too xo
Thank You! Yes, I want everybody to have a positive experience at USPDF. I know there's always a little friction and competition between groups of people and studios. But I think if everyone who is able to signs up for a class, there will be plenty of students for every studio to fill their classes that weekend.
awesome job, Joel!! I tried this move out a few months ago and found that it takes a lot of balance and core strength to hold yourself up and look smooth and strong. You are really coming along with all of this and I hope I get to meet you finally in NYC next month!
Thank You!! Mine is kind of clunky looking. The lady in the original tutorial has an excellent open V spit and hip rotation ability. It seemed to me that she was using her hips as a see-saw. The leading leg seemed to pull the move up and over to a balance point. I felt like I had to use brute force, more or less...
Thank You! I looked at her tutorial a few times. I think the secret is someting similar to the way you do some of your extended aerial moves--tucking the leading leg, pushing it out and taking advantage of that momentum to "pull the other leg" up into the move. I noticed that she seems to have the ability to turn her hips internally--very flexible. I was just using brute force,LOL!
LOL, I've never had contacts...the whole touching my eyeball thing seemed hard to get used to! I'm embarassed to admit it, but Iactually have a pair of blended bifocals for work. Like my daughter says: "Dad...you're so...OLD!" But thank you for the sweet compliment. It made my day!
I love CallmeFever's tutorial vid.Keep meaning to try this but was distracted by some pole tricks at the moment.I might be in New York for 6 days,so maybe i should sign up for one of the workshop.Still havent decided to go to new York or London during those dates though.
Yes, she does it real fluidly and sexy...and it is easy to imagine some of the pole to floorwork transitions it could be used in. It would make a perfect move between a leg over the pole dismount, roll over to the grind. You'd have to figure out a way to get that hand under the chest smoothly--not too many people can manage a one handed push-up or return from a push up. Also--it could be developed from the tiger crawl--that might be easier to do.
great job !! love your cute title with the beer bottles hidden under-sounds like my house! LOL.
you know what you should try too, which is what i have to work on with my cheast stand. you put alot of pressure on your neck, try tucking your head into your cheast and rolling on your back when you come down. it will make you feel better when you come out of it, and you wont get tight neck muscles from practice the next day.
Thank You, Steph! Yes, I was worried about the neck pressure. ..and Karol brought up the same issue. I will experiment with the neck tuck. I know it is safer and allows for a better "rescue" roll if you fall down...
Well, it's so busy...but I will keep working on it. Up in Minnesota this week at Body Blast, I actually did the three Salsa twirls--or whatever they are called, the reverse hook...AND the invert. Wooden floor and mens bowling shoes. You can spin on the floor FOREVER--like 5 times around. They have the same teflon pads as those pleaser dance shoes the ladies wear and make it easy to do moves requiring floor spins. I have a 30 second segment alone--no one's consent needed to post--I'll put it up.
but haven't figured it out yet. There is a degree of precision in dance I guess I never appreciated before. About the message--we can't have a pole community without the studios and the master class dancers--and they cannot exist without students. So I wanted to take the "side" of the whole community and encourage everyone to take a lesson somewhere. I'll be taking Veena's afternoon workshop as they are allowing me to transfer my credit over. I hope she doesn't beat me up too bad, lol!
Thanks You!! That is very nice to hear, but I think your FORM is a lot better. Try doing it up against a counter top or a chair, so you can play around more with the balance point and lean against your "spotter" when you tire. That other room is my son's room (hence the beer bottle under the bed!) and his "vomit green" chair is my spotter. Sometimes I roll it into the pole room!
Thanks!!! I think I need to upload this to SV, so I can "technically" dispense with the floorwork challenge, LOL! I spent the first hour of practice doing those two walk around spins to the reverse hook over and over until I thought I would throw up. I got real dizzy and had to stop! I learned 2 things--it DOES matter where you put your feet, ha ha--and somehow I've got to figure out that "palms-up waitress hand hold" so I don't rip out my shoulder cuff! I watched a few tutorials (continued)

Thank You, Lara! It doesn't actually require too much flexibilty to do the mechanics. But I guess to make it sexy, I'd have to be a lot more flexible. The French lady is able to do a full hip rotation. Maybe Mason would like to take the challenge for a better version of this move for male polers!
