Steve Reeves never looked better than he did here, though it's amazing to me how he doesn't look any older than he did ten years later at the height of the Italian muscle movies.
Personally I still like Gordon Scott, who was nowhere near as handsome or muscular but who was my favorite Tarzan: intense and fearsome. And he wasn't a bad actor.
Neither Superman. Can you believe he was offered the role of Superman before George Reeve took it? He was also offered the part of James Bond and the Man with No Name, which he also declined them as well. Too bad he did not do them because all of those roles took their protagonists to stardom (except Superman of course).
Reeves was originally offered the role of Samson in "Samson & Deilah" a part that he lost because he was thought to be too big. It went to actor Victor Mature. This was Reeves first shirtless scene. This show bombed and it went mostly unnoticed. Bodybuilders were drug free untill the early 1960's.
This Reeves worship is odd. He's in great shape of course, but "perfect body?" That's pretty subjective, but to me anyway, he's not that impressive! Great body, but not without flaws. No human being is "perfect."
This is indeed on of the few times we get to hear Steve's real voice. It is sad to know that that once perfect body is not ashes from his cremation. He was my hero when I was growing up. I tried to bulk up like him but some people do not respond to bodybuilding like others do. In Marine Boot camp I could really pump out those pushups and pullups. Steve was my inspiration to get in shape. He was a man's man, yet had the heart of a gentle person.
Thanks You sooo much for sharing this clip. All Tarzan and hercules movies fans regret that young STEVE didnt make the whole 13 shows. He surly would have been one of the GREATEST Tarzan EVER> plz post more clips on tjis show. Thanks

I was always surprised that Steve Reeves never portrayed Tarzan during his film career.

Even today, he can still sizzle the screen. He truly was the most beautiful man in the world.

@weightmaster98 . I think Victor Mature did an excellent job portraying Samson, but the superiority of the Reeve's body is undeniable.
