@xalkias2 because the track has a slope. it isn't flat. you would need to put an angled gravel trap 30+ft in the air. if it wasn't angled then the track would be a ramp and they would just fly over it. also there isn't really any room to put a gravel trap. Watkins Glen and Sears Point are both (mostly) flat road courses with gravel traps. they are both NASCAR tracks but to my knowledge the only road courses in NASCAR
Second- This cars are the strongest in racing, the body is stronger than F1, indy, touring cars, endurance races cars(24 hrs of Le Mans) etc.
Third- this cars are about 600 hp and matching torque, twice as heavy as an F1 car, this hit happened around 100 miles an hour (160 kilometers an hour);pretty hard hit!
Third- Harmon is a heavy driver yes, but that is because in the USA we have the money to EAT!!!!

True enough, but its not beneficial to be larger and out of shape. Weight affects cars performance.
Also physical endurance to withstand the stresses the car puts on the body in F1 is different.
A less fit individual may not last as long, make more mistakes as he splits concentration, fatigue ect.
