  • The music?

Not really doing much for the video there.

  • @ChaosDynamics no we dont need f/18s or euro fighters or saab gripens . who`s going to attack us ? you guys needed defence in ww2 against the nazis we didnt thats why you still have modern jets because your military was keept going, oh by the way back in the 40`s to the 60`s we had dehaviland vampires and stuff quite advanced for that era we just SIMPLY dont need em.

  • christ sake we dont need euro fighters or anything like that ! jeez christ were neutral !!!

  • Irish Air Corps are a joke, and that's a compliment.

  • The former president said that decades ago, and he was true in ways.

But a war in Europe wouldn't directly affect Eire. In the modern sense in would.

But in a slightly less globalised world it wouldn't.

  • And lastly, the EU won't last forever.

  • @ocean3da Well the longer it does the better. This is the longest Europe has gone without war.

  • @0oPadmano0

“A real friendship, a friendship that would stand the test, because in the long run, the fate of these two islands, the people’s of these two neighbouring islands is likely to be the same, ultimately we must go our different ways, have our different intellectual and spiritual ideas, but materially and otherwise these two islands are to a large extent set by nature here off the coast of Europe and they are destined to be neighbours and they should be friends.” - Former president Dev

  • Ireland needs to go up a stage in Air defence, just as recently it is going to spend for two new Navy ships.

  • @ocean3da Ireland is an island, therefore the navy is a better form of defence to compared to the air force.

  • @0oPadmano0

An aircraft carrier can easily destory the navy, and launch even some old harrier jets or whatever and take out strategic areas of the state.

  • @ocean3da There is no "state" anymore. You do not seem to realise that we are a member of the the EU and if we were invaded,if the whole country was in ruins, our HQ would still be in Brussels. We dont need a bigger army.Yes it would be nice to have one for bragging rights, but we seriously do not need one.Especially during a recession where we are already in debt.

  • @0oPadmano0

Well, thats the thing, my thinking is focused on the state, and not the EU. It is a shame that is what your country has to be just because it is poor.

I realise well enough to call your president a traitor, techically speaking, but in the end there wasn't any choice about it. And her lack of respect for Democracy back in 04, when Dana Scallon was sidelined by the government.

  • Vote Fine Gael for a stronger Irish army.

  • how much does a pc-9 cost

  • The Irish Air Corps flies what looks like a WWII P-51 Mustang?????Jesus save your money, get rid of the armed forces and join Iceland, host Nato without your own armed service.

  • im considering joining the irish air corp

    good idea

    or not

  • yes but it is hard to get in and they are not recruiting because of the recession also yo umust spend the minimuim of 5 years in them

  • Its great to get a true insight into how highly trained and skilled thses pilots are. The work they do is a great asset to the country. Jevens and Furniss will be sadly missed.

  • I work in the midlands and these guys RIP provide us with us with great entertainment as they went about their flights. Come on the Air Corp. I once worked in Cambodia and they had a massive fleet of MIG Jets but no fuel. not much fun watching them

    (no hospitals either.)

  • I resent that remark. As a former pilot myself. Its all too real to me just how vulnerable aviators are up there. Mistakes of others and poor weather can cost you your life. I'd had my scares. Don't preach at me. I'm deeply upset at the passing of these flyers as you. These sad events triggered me to look at this You tube stuff about our air corps. I've formed my opinions over time. I don't see that I can't express them at this sad time. or any other time.

  • The taxpayer is asked to foot the cost of pilot training for people who will work for ryanair etc? Is the air corp the only flying school ?

The Lufwaffe or the RAF would probably be well capable of patrolling fisheries off the Atlantic for less than our spend on our air corps. Remember! the air corp lost out to a Canadian rescue service which from my observation does a perfectly good job. Stunt flying of those Pilatus planes is only fooling around . We can't afford these luxuries.

  • You have no respect!! Two crew died this week providing a valuable service to the state. The Navy and Air Corp play an important role in protecting our coast from drug smugglers ect. As a country we can't afford not to have an effective and well trained Air Corp. If we can afford to keep ignorant people like you sitting at home on the dole, we can provide a force that has saved hundreds of lives over the years. (Ask any sea fisherman or mountain rescue member)

    R.I.P to both those men.

  • What the cost of all this tricking around with these aeroplanes? Surely with the coming of the European centralised defence system, this sort of thing should be left to an outfit like the Luftwaffe, while we concentrate on more specialised military activities such the army Rangers supply.

  • What sort of thing is that then?? The PC-9 trains pilots to lead on to all sorts of other aircraft, so the Germans are gonna come over here and fly our fisheries protection and air ambulance flights!!???

  • To the crew of 265. May they Rest In Peace.

  • It'a about your ignorance, note the spelling no 'e'. Oh and 'is' should have a capital letter 'Is'. Now go back to your Playstation little boy.

  • Great video, glad to see them having fun at our expense. We don't need fighters, we could actually afford some fighter jets but we couldn't afford the support costs or the cost of a military radar system. In fact we don't even need those PC9s. They are a waste of money, they have no military capability to speak of and are used to train pilos whose first job is to fly Cessna 172s or train on helicopters. Toys for the boys to indulge their Topgun fantasies. Get rid of them and buy more army helis

  • Actually, I think they did buy more helicopters, or they leased them anyways. We can't use them because they don't have the right certification for military use. Let's leave the air work to the Air Corps.

  • I'm sure these guys pay their taxes too, so really, they're having fun at their 'expense' as well !! ;-)

  • True but they get paid with my taxes. So any tax they pay is simply other taxpayers money being returned. In any case apparently they're not flying as much anymore. No new cadets to train for the last two years. So they're only use is recurrency training and fun and games.

  • Suggest you learn to spell, sonny if you're going to try and insult someone.

  • Comment removed

  • No new cadets!!!!!! Tell that to David Jevins family who lost their son this week while training in a PC-9!!!!! Dont come on here ranting without proper facts.

May David and Derek rest in peace.

  • You're the guy without the facts and ranting, Cadet Jevens joined in 2006. The last time they took cadets.

  • Excuse me nolht, but Ive served in the Air Corps for nearly 20 yrs now. This class of cadets "are" new to the Air Corps. If you knew "your" facts you would know that if a class was taken on in 2006 they have to go through their military training in the Curragh first. They wouldnt be cadets if they were qualified pilots would they! Actually, I dont know why i bother replying to these comments, ive served in the Air Corps too long to have to bother this crap.

  • Yeah and I've been in the Red Arrows for the last ten years. I'm not sure why you even brought up the subject. I posted before the accident and my point have nothing to do with this tragedy. But here's another fact, he had 160 hours was due to be commisioned soon, hardly new then. I suggest if you are in the Air Corps, which I doubt, then you respect their memory by not discussing them here. If you're a fantasy merchant then just shut up.

  • I brought the subject up because of the comments on this video that suggested the FTS pilots simply use the PC-9's for jollies. Not the sort of comments that are acceptable in light of recent events. And dont dare say I have no respect for them. Ive seen 5 members of the Air Corps laid to rest in 6 weeks now so i think its CIVVIES that should shut up and have respect. Why dont you arrange to visit Bal and I can meet you a

  • what criteria would i need to join the irish air force?

  • I am surprised noone has mentioned the Army's 1st Air defence regiment in protecting Irish airspace. There equiped with the Bofors L 70 40mm gun which has a 3500 yard range and the shoulder mounted RBS 70 SAM system which has a range of 7km and can engage tagets up to 4km in altitute. Maybe its because of and these weapons that airspace defence has been less of a priority for the Irish Air Corps

if Irleand needed fighters maybe older russian designs like mig 29,su 27,su 30 would be ok

  • Ireland is on good terms with America so in my own opinion I would prefer to have American (even European made) jets in the Air Corps inventory.

  • The problem is that the Irish Army has only 1/6 of the target acquisition radars needed for a force its size to effectively operate and coordinate the anti-aircraft weaponry of 1st Air Defence Regiment. Also of course while air defense can help to protect one's own forces from enemy action it gives none of the benefits of air power to one's own side, and does not allow the country to control its own airspace.

  • An interesting line of debate. The Air Corp Need to be equipped to face the real threats of the modern world. We are not going to war with any European country but the air space of Ireland is in the middle of the most important air corridors in the world. There should be super sonic jets with a realistic air to air capability. No need to spend billions on things like Gripens or Raptors. F5 Freedom fighters with sidewiders would be adequate and relatively cheap.

  • o that looks like n ausome plane.

  • To all those people saying we need fighters such as f22s and fa/18s need to wake up we dont aircraft like that!! they should invest in a few more CASAs for maritime patrols to stop drugs and what not coming into the country or more helicopters!!!!

  • why not have drugs and jets :)

  • haha we culd use the drugs to pay for them i suppose :)

  • hey mate is there anyway i could download this footage without the music just for personal use , im adicted to the pc9 :P and this is some of the nices stuff ive seen

  • Cool!!and I thought the air corps just flew kites!

  • I Love those pc9s fuckin class

  • whats the song

  • hysteria by muse :)

  • Fair enough. Let's compare ourselves to Switzerland, a country that, like ours, is renowned for its neutrality. The Swiss Air Force operate 54 F-5 Tigers and 33 F/A-18C/D Hornets. Those are fully capable third and fourth generation fighter aircraft.

  • You would'nt be totally F*cked, I'd hope Scotland would be on Ireland's side and afterall the english gov have dumped us with nucleur subs so we could use them aginst them and we have all the high tech fighters!!! but yes the Irish air corps really need to get some jets.

  • Especially when you consider they're members of NATO and we're not.

  • lol

  • well its not going to happen bcoz of the EU and irelands neutral position 1

  • Great vid, great planes. It would be nice for the aer corps to have planes like the Grippen or Rafale, these would be perfect planes for the aer corps but they'd just be a luxury, we really don't need them. In the unlikely event of something happening I do hate the fact we have to rely on the RAF for air protection though!

  • When the RAF get rid of all the Tornadoes, I could well see us buying a few old GR.4s and F.3s.

  • Ahem.... guys behind these 2 vids.....we are waiting for part 3! Great stuff, give us more!

  • gotta get those jets up there ill send you some

  • looks nicer than the euro fighter.

  • dude put some more of these videos up there unreal

  • wow i hate comments like that, when somebody sees a propeller the think shitty plane, but pc9s are extremely nimble and suprisingly quick aircraft along with a good pilot they really can kick ass.

  • Ha ha ha ha ha! Air supremacy! We have total air supremacy! We shall kick the asses of all civilian piston aircraft that DARE invade our airspace. God help them.

  • As a matter of fact, the B2 Spirit is the most expensive aircraft at $2bn apeice.

  • The US F-22 Raptor is the most expensive aircraft-not the Eurofighter Typoon!!

  • eurofighter is a an okay machine but has some mechanical problems... I would say the top two aircraft in the world is the F-22 Raptor and the MIG 35 Fulcrum.

  • Good luck, I was on the final panel last year and missed out by one place for a cadetship. Competition is extremely tough.

  • i'm gona join the air corps

  • yes cause we really have need for one of the most expensive fighter jets in the world.

Secondly there not fighter jets, there training aircraft you moron. To answer your second question, We're a neutral country, we have no need for a fighter squadron. Ask yourself this, when have we ever needed one in the last 20 years? Ignorance of some people frightens me.

  • we really need some eurofighter typhoons

  • its 2008 why do we have propellers on our fighters?

  • They're not fighters, never were and never will be. They're trainers.

  • ok then i rephrase my question

its 2008 why dont we have fighters at all?

  • Nice video, nice flying, but the music!!!

  • Cool vid, Wish I were a cadet!!!

  • These aircraft are regarded as trainers, the aircorps think of them like that aswell. So these pilots are just training all the time.

  • They really are a great aircraft but most countries use them as trainers for there military.I still think the Air Corps should have modern jets to counter act threats, the PC9'S can't go as fast as an airliner therefore we would have to call on the RAF "if" there was a problem

  • Nice job, music and editing bang on. They certainly make use of what they have..!

  • The Russians must be shitting themselves.

  • Get our air corp pilots what they need, the right equipment. for the sake of the defence of Ireland, The Air Corp need modern intercept jets NOW! lobby your TD now. and share your comments. thanks

  • nice video with great music, nice flying too :)

  • boys and their toys huh??haha shame the silver sparrows are no more..these pilots would have been a testiment too them excellant flying..true display of irish military spirit and skills

  • Thank you, great, and the "fighting spirit" is here, those pc9m are superb little planes

  • WOW!!!

  • Fantastic flying!

  • Lead pilot must think he's using a flying hedge strimmer!
