If 500 of Nader's 97,000 votes went to Gore, then Gore would have won the election. Nader may not have spoiled the election, but he was certainly a significant factor in George Bush's rise to power.

I'm not sure if this is true seeing as the electoral college really decided: Gore actually won the popular vote over Bush. Perhaps I'm missing a piece of your argument. Regardless, several exit polls in 2000 showed that Nader's voters would have written in some one else or not voted at all, but would not have voted for Gore. Certainly not all of them were accounted for, but in an election everyone takes votes away from everyone.
