I remember watching the fridge scene at my house ... now remember, I was 10 ... as soon as Zuul popped out, the fan in my room simultaneously broke a blade and threw it against the wall . . . not kidding, I was outside my house and halfway down the street before I came to my senses!
What an underwhelming review, Ghostbusters is one of the best movies ever made, and all they can say is "yeah, it was funny, 2 thumbs up", id have been raving about it
Ahhh, Roger, you forgot that Harold Ramis co-starred - with Bill Murray - in "Stripes" a couple of years earlier. And you could have mentioned that Rams directed "Caddyshack" the year before that.
@MegaObserver1 at the time ebert made the comment, he was right. harold ramis wasn't well known and caddyshack was not yet a cult classic. easy for you to say 30 years after the fact.
@christslapper . well for most alot of the movie there were just the original 3, all scientists. winston comes in late as a hired gun, and doesn't have the longtime friendship and banter of the main 3.
Good comment, but I think 10 thumbs up is enough for you so I'm not going to vote it up. Im going to try voting it down just to see if I can take you DOWN! soo yeah
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's rather strange that they could have liked this one so much and yet hated the sequel since they are both have the same winning formula of FX/comedy and are buoyed by Murray's sly one-liners.
yeah, i have to say i liked ghostbusters 2 more than the ninja turtles sequals by far. i've always thought of them as kinda close. but i think the main problem with ghostbusters 2 was that nobody cared about that baby and having a painting as a villain was a bad move. but at least it had all the original actors which most sequals dont have
yea but he did stripes with bill a couple years earlyer so most people then would of known him from that plus he was mainly just writing back then so people also know him as a writer of movies
I love Ghostbusters and I love the classic Ebert and Siskel reviews. I definately feel the new at the movie critics do not amount to the gregarious insight the original pair had.
I'm glad that AO Scott and Michael Philips are doing it now. They are no Siskel and Ebert, but light years better than the two clowns that got fired for their dreadful displays last season.
The only problem I have with the show is the "See It" and "Skip It" format. I miss the old thumb routine. Roger Ebert didn't want a part of that show anymore for some reason.
the see it ok but I don't like the rent it. renting it is the same as seeing it and ebert even said that. When someone tells you to rent a movie, its just another word of saying seeing it.
"Upon being informed in mid-2009 of the most recent change in co-hosts to Scott and Phillips, Ebert indicated to Phillips that he would be prepared to return his endorsement and the "Thumbs" system to the series. However, Disney turned down the offer, saying that the show had "moved on"
The problem with this argument is that the show's useless without it.
True that. But now that there are actual FILM CRITICS on the show, and not entertainment reporters, the reviews are much more substantive. In fact, when I watched the first show with Michael and Tony, I got emotional, lawl, cause they had SO much personality and intelligence. :)
@BrotherSport311 I agree with you. I always liked Michael Phillips when he was a guest on the show. Although he just gave New moon a good review. Oh well, he's fun to listen to but you're right, Siskel and Ebert are just so great. I've gone back and watched so many of thier reviews. Insightful, bright, funny and thoughtful people.
@BrotherSport311 Too bad AO Scott and Michael Philips are fired now, too. The silver lining is that Roger and his wife are prepping a brand new version of the show... and the "thumbs" are coming back.

That wasn't Roger Ebert's decision, that was Disney's. Roger always wanted the thumbs to stay in the show, but Disney wouldn't allow it.
