  • hi what can I substitute for the shortening? can I use butter or oil instead? thank you

  • @charmlovesyou27 butter, but the cookie may spread a bit more

  • Thanks for the recipe. I love Oatmeal Rasin Cookies =)

  • just made these for thanksgiving and they are delicious! i wanna keep eating them but i have to leave some for turkey day :P

  • do you have to use an electric hand mixer? or can you just mix it by hand? im planning on making these for thanksgiving but i dont have a electric hand mixer, please anwser! by the way love your videos!

  • @Kayakp No problem doing the mixing by hand.

  • Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies > oatmeal raisin, who wants raisins in there cookies, yuck!

  • well can u plz reply to this question "Well can you do every thing but not add raisins oatmeal and choclate chips so it like sugar cookies"

  • @Moneymaker1939 The recipe is designed for oatmeal to be added. If you don't add the oatmeal, the cookie dough will be too wet. I have a sugar cookie recipe in my cookie playlist if you want one.

  • @yoyomax12 ok id o want thnk you

  • shes from Wisconsin i can tell

love it taste delicious thank 4 da recipe

  • @xRoyaldx I live in Ontario, Canada.

  • Simply delicious!!!! I made them with shredded coconut and my family loved them!!! thanks!!! Your channel is wonderful !!

  • @primaveracero2010 Happy you enjoyed it!

  • do you have to use shorting :(

  • @TheTutorTalkShow In this recipe yes, but there are other recipes out there that use butter

  • @izzyorigami11 see description

  • @thedri999 just wonderin, or uhm, yeah, maybe im not all there today, but i dont think she added penut butter, just sayin...not tryin to be a smart butt.

  • Thanks so much for this recipe! I tried it and it's so good! :))

  • @Franzieme Glad you enjoyed it, it is a tried and true recipe for me

  • @thedri999 I would suggest a different cookie recipe then :)

  • I have tryed a variation of your recipe and was fantastic. Thank you for the inspiration.

  • @eduardobag These are very versatile and the variations are endless.

  • btw u dont have to squish the cookies...they will flat down when they cook ^^

  • @ziba89 I find that they don't flatten enough while cooking, so I squish them.

  • @yoyomax12 that's weird...they always flatten out with me ...i guess oatmeal makes them not do that... for some reason

  • I made these last night, I put in a cup of raisins, 1/2 cup of roasted chopped hazlenuts and 1/2 cup of chocolate, best biscuits I've ever made, thanks for sharing the recipe.

  • @honeyflowerchild I like your variation!

  • just made them, fresh outtta the oven, thanks they are so yummy i might i have to make more real soon because everyone cant stop eating them

  • @LSC008 Thanks for letting me know you tried this recipe!

  • 2:35 omg runaway dough

  • @Marbelle1920 lol! It tried to get away. :)

  • here i am, back at your cookie video.

I'm making these tonight for my daughters school Christmas party tomorrow, except i'm using m's&m's instead of raisins or choc. chips.

I made these cookies so much last school year. the kids loved having them in their lunches and when i would skip a couple days of not adding a cookie in lunches, they would grumble and say that their friends want more oatmeal cookies! because they always shared them!

    still love this video!

  • @electronictrip I've been making this particular recipe for almost 20 years. Funny enough it came from a cookbook (the only cookbook) my husband owned when I met him and I've been using the recipe every since.

thanks so much for your lovely comment, it is the main reason I do these videos. :)

  • I am with your husband on this one I love raisin oatmeal :). Constinency is always an issue lol.

  • Are these chewy cookies? Can you give me a tip to give cookies a chewier texture? Thanks

  • @McFerno1 These are a fairly chewy. Generally if you under-bake a cookie just a bit, you will get a chewier texture, but you don't want to underbake them too much!

In my opinion, cookies are one the hardest things to bake! They look and feel very different once they are cooled and out of the oven. You think they are underbaked and when they cool, you see that they are baked perfectly or vice versa.

It comes down to a matter of experience with many recipes

  • @McFerno1 She said in the video if you under-bake them they can become chewy. Did you not just watch the video?

  • wait nevermind =)

  • instead of shortining can you do butter?

  • what if we dont have vegetable shortening

  • @thesamantha327 You could use margarine, but it will make them taste differently and they may spread out more.

  • can i use butter as a substitute in shortening? thanks : )

  • @meshae16 You could use butter, but the cookies may spread a lot more so you probably wouldn't have to flatten them too much before baking.

  • @yoyomax12 hmm.. ok thanks :)

  • How many cookies did u make?

  • @claramagalona I've loved baking ever since I've been your age!

The number of cookies depends on the size of the cookies. With cookie scoop I used I ended up with about two dozen.

  • @yoyomax12 Cool! You know, These are really tasty! I made a video! And I i gave a special thanks to you :) Just uploaded it now!

  • @claramagalona I just watched it! Thanks!

  • Thanks! Gonna make a batch now! I LOVE BAKING! (even though this is my first time because i'm a 9 year old...)

  • I just add choc chips and butterscotch chips to Betty Crocker Oatmeal cookie mix.

  • @HattieLovesCattie That will work too, homemade is better though.

  • wow..nice recipe..thanku

  • @myspicyhut You are most welcome.

  • @myspicyhut You are welcome and sorry for the late reply, this one slipped passed me somehow!

  • what if i use margarine/butter instead of veg shortening? just wondering... btw, great video, yummy! :]

  • The cookies may spread a little bit more if you use butter/margarine, that's about the only difference.

  • Where did the oatmeal go?

Check out my video in HD

  • @scottskitchen Where did the oatmeal go? Is this a quiz? Is there a punchline?

I'm guessing you mean that the oatmeal flakes are not very visible in the end product?

I think this is because I used the quick oats an the peaces are small and cook into the dough.

  • Thanks, I made a batch of my oatmeal cookies and brought them into work and my co-works are raving over them. Thanks for accepting my video response. Happy baking!

  • Good recipe! Very similar to mine.

You will love my video in HD for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies with Nuts.

  • @scottskitchen I do like this version of your recipe. I have approved your video response. Thanks!

  • At the risk of being too forward...

    Please adopt me =s.

    PS: Thanks for the recipe!

  • I'll have to talk to the hubby about the adoption thing, lol!

    Thanks :)

  • Thank you for this Fantastic recipe, I love it -*

  • You are welcome, happy you liked it.

    :)

  • 5:52 they look sooo yummy! i'm loving your recipes XD

  • Thanks! Nothing like a cold glass of milk with cookies.

  • hi i'm new to cooking and i really wanna bake this for my boy friend so hopefully u'd answer my noob questions XD how many grams does one cup of ingredients weigh? and is 2 cups of sugar really sweet or just below average? tks in advance

  • I cup is 250ml, I don't know how many grams that is because all our recipes here are in cups only usually. The cookies are of "average" sweetness for an oatmeal cookie. Not super sweet.

  • hi tried using 300ml sugar but while tasting the mixture, it seems too sweet too =x

  • Can I use butter instead of the shortning

  • The texture of the cookie will change completely if you use butter. The cookie will most likely flatten out and become thin.

If you use butter, make sure to leave at least 2-3 inches between each cookie on the cookie sheet.

  • i bought shortening but it is butter flavored so is that okay cause i like the taste of butter better

  • The butter flavoured shortening will be PERFECT for these cookies.

  • the cookies i made last night from following your recipe were probably the best cookies i've ever made. they were so delicious - tnx.

  • I was wondering how they turned out! I'm glad you liked them! Thanks for letting me know. :)

  • followed your recipe, cookies are in the oven. the batter is certainly delicious. made the oatmeal choco chips

  • This is very similar to my recipe...I use WHITE chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped cherries instead...and everyone LOVES them.

  • White chocolate and cherries sounds wonderful! I will have to try them that way.

  • This is the best oatmeal cookie ever. Thin, crisp bottom and edges and chewy center all at the same time. Not cakey. Thanks for posting.

BTW it is really good with walnuts in it also.

  • Many people don't like the idea that there is shortening instead of butter in these, but they are very good none the less.

    Thanks!

  • When I see the word shortening I just use butter, mostly because I don't use hydrogenated oils. I did wonder how they would taste using coconut oil. I think I will try that next. Of course I don't think they can be improved upon, really.

  • thanks! i think ill try flattening em with the sledge hammer! hahaha!

  • I suggest covering the surrounding area with plastic tarps first, lol :)

  • u can flatten those oats by using teaspoons right instead of using hand?

  • You can flatten them with a sledge hammer if you like, whatever floats your boat.

  • why the hell deos every one use brown suger!!!

  • You could use white sugar as well, but the brown gives colour and a caramel-ly flavour to the cookies.

  • My husband looooves this recipe!!! Thank you for sharing

  • This is a very versatile cookie recipe!

    Thanks for the comment.

  • wow that looks so delicious. I gotta make this ASAP

  • Hope you enjoy them!

  • Do I have to use so much sugar? I'm on a diet at the moment and am fed up of porrage :)

  • You could substitute the sugar with a sugar substitute, but I don't know how they will turn out. They aren't really diet food, lol!

I suggest making them very small and just eating one. (if you can) :)

  • thanks very much for the advice. I think I'll treat myself.

  • mmm, Immagino Mi renderebbero Assuefatto. Generalmente li preferisco Energizzanti, ma Se si Ha del tempo Andrebbero provati Così. Kavolo! continuate a cercarmi mi raccomando...ahahahah

  • italian or portuguese?

  • THANKS FOR THE RECIPE YOU ARE SO SWEET

  • You are welcome! :)

  • YOU ARE GOOD

  • Thanks much. :)

  • how much is a cup of something in grams? for e.g a cup of butter is how many grams? when i cook i measure by grams and this recipe looks great.

  • A cup is 250ml, I don't know how many grams that is. I suggest you google it and I'm sure you'll find the answer there.

  • This recipe was Delicious & easy to do. My family & co-workers Love Them!

    Big Thumbs Up!

  • Very glad that you made and enjoyed them!

    -Tammy

  • Thank you! It looks delicious!

  • You are welcome!

Thanks so much for the subscription as well. I usually like to leave a comment on a person't channel page but you don't have that option enabled. I do appreciate it!

    -Tammy

  • Glad you enjoyed the video. The cookies are tasty and easy to make. Enjoy. :)

  • I can't wait to eat these cookies. This recipe was so easy and done so well! Thank You.

  • as Im typing this .. Not only was the joke funny ((Im giggling)) my cookies (( which You taught me here)) are smelling GREAT!! Thank-You for shareing that receipe Thank-You ever so much even my daughter commented on how great they smell :)TY

  • So glad that you tried them!

They are best still warm out of the oven with a glass of milk.

mmmmm......makes me want to make more now! lol.

    Thanks for the comment. :)

  • oh, that is delicious!!!! yummy!!!

  • Thanks! It is one my favourite recipes.

  • where do u get the shortening thingi from??? and r u the one who did the show with max?

And the joke was really funny

  • The shortening comes in a box wrapped in waxed paper. I cut the package in two (one cup) and let it fall out of the waxed paper into the bowl. Is this what you mean?

I tape Max telling jokes and being silly, he is my son.

    Thanks!

  • you had to put that picture at the end with that glass of milk and warm cookies huh? Dangit now im freakin hungry and i want some choc chip oatmeal cookies =(

  • Sorry! ;)

I guess you'll just have to make some!

    Thanks.

  • how many does this recipe make?

  • About two dozen 3" diameter cookies. It depends on how big and how thick they are.

  • "hy was the Broom late?" "Because he over slept" ahaha that's the best one.

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the joke :)

  • when u use shortening, it has a higher melting temperature so thats why you flatten them. if you use butter, then you keep it as nice balls or else it will turn out too flat.

  • That makes perfect sense! I've never studied the "science" of cooking, it something that you've learned from experience and didn't know the reason why. Thanks.

  • Okay this was not the video I should have watched right before bed cuz now I want cookies. More specifically those cookies. They look delicious. Yep you can still get stuff thru the Regal catalogue. Well that was last yr I ordered from it. Maybe thats gone too. :)

  • I used to love going to the Regal store, they had so many kitchen gadgets. I am a sucker for a new kitchen gadget! I just checked and they are still on-line as a catalogue.

  • looks yum

when i make choc chip cookies, i freeze some ready to put in another night so you can enjoy them fresh twice with out as much work lol it works well

thanks for sharing and i hope you are better soon!

  • Freezing the dough is an excellent idea. Nothing like fresh baked cookies still warm from the oven.

  • This is easy to remember and looks yummy! Great joke Max! Thanks, Grams

  • Very easy recipe! They are the best right out of the oven and still warm.

  • the cookies look great! my mom always used butterscotch chips, but i like them with choc chips & raisins ;)

    good joke Max ;)

  • Butterscotch and oatmeal go very well together for some reason! Thanks Gail.

  • Very nice -

still hear your cold - hope you get to feeling much better!

    mike

  • Cold is pretty much gone now, thanks for your concern Mike.

    ((hugs))

  • Well, - unlike Max - I don't want to take it from you, but I do wish it would go away. LOL

    (He's such a sweet kid)

    mike

  • Hey don't get me wrong, Kevin Mcleods' music is great!! I'm just ribbin' ya a little.

Besides, he's the biggest thing on YouTube, so I'm betting he won't be composing your very own "Ode to a Lemon Bar" ;)

  • I do feel a little guilty every time I use Kevin't music, he doesn't subscribe and comment on my videos. I do appreciate you :)

I actually wouldn't mind "ode to lemon loaf" :)

  • lol now thats a cute one, max's joke, cant have a tardy broom ;)

  • Max says thanks!

  • I love oatmeal cookies and this recipe seems easy to make AND remember!

  • It is an easy one to remember. I can pretty much make it without looking at the recipe.

These are one of hubby's favourite cookies.

  • i over swept this morning too :)

    xoexo

  • Then you should go back to bed! lol.

    Thanks Eden.

  • Ok, I suck! I haven't watched videos in over a week. I'm a horrible youtuber. Life has been hectic. I am going to do a video tomorrow and play catch-up and watch everyone's videos that I can.

These look delicious. I may have to make them for the kids. I may even have to take a bite of one. :) Thanks for sharing. take care - jenn

  • Bad YTuber! Okay...you are forgiven. But only if we get a video from you SOON.

    Miss you.

  • Wow, well done. Nice lesson and the recipe sounds good too. You sound as though you're on the mend. That's good news indeed.

  • Much better today Liz!

The recipe is a very basic one. It was actually a recipe that my husband used to use to make cookies before he met me!

  • Love oatmeal cookies!

  • These are nice and crispy and mix up quickly.

  • You sound better today!Cookies look yummy!

    Bonjour Maxim,

    Je t'aime plus!

  • Much better today!

    Love you.

  • oatmeal sesame seed cookies are vey good too. My hubby likes cho chips in it too. I used to work at a cookie place an we made oatmeal sunflower seed cookies from scratch. i loved working there. we made little bite size cookies too. Plus other types of cookies. One of my best ever jobs. The place was called Earthly Endeavors We used all-natural ingredients.

    Hi Max :)

  • I've always wanted to work in a bakery!

The best baking is from scratch with whole ingredients.

  • Looks good and easy. Another winner. Even though at 2:30 is did look like you were stirring up a litter box. I'm currently out of vanilla or I'd be making this today.

    Over swept! hehehehe

  • I just realized that if you click on the "2:30" in your comment it takes you right to that moment in the video!!

It does look remarkably like cat litter (but no brown chunks)

  • Tammy! Mmmmmm...cookies..:)

Hey Max! Love the joke today!!

    Have a great day!!

  • I make them but don't eat them, lol.

  • Good joke Max! Cookies look yummy! Hope you get to feeling better Tammy. Hugs!

  • I am much better today Melissa, thanks much!

  • I love oatmeal chocolate chip and have TONS of leftover oats from christmas!! Thank you!

  • These are really easy to make and are best dunked in coffee/tea or milk.

  • Mmmm cookies! Its great that you make both of them the cookies they want:)

  • Very easy to accommodate them by splitting the recipe. I'm actually not a fan of oatmeal cookies so I'm not tempted to eat them.

  • I love oatmeal cookies - even if there are raisins and I tend to pick out the raisins anyways. Yeah, I'm weird like that - delicious recipe by the way!

  • The only oatmeal cookies I'll eat are the really thin crispy ones without anything in them,so I understand how you feel!

  • I'm sure they taste good as they look wonderful :-)

  • Thanks! They are good, but I think they are best if you dunk them into something, like milk or tea.

  • Oatmeal cookies are my favorite...but shortening???? I stand firmly in the butter camp. I'm sorry, but that's my final answer!!

butter!! Did I say butter? Also, you do know I have FREE music right? I will even compose you some BAKING MUSIC. If that's what I have to do.... that's what I'll do.

  • All of my other baking videos have at least a cup of butter in them, this may be the only one that doesn't!

I think your music is great Jason. Out of laziness I used the "other" music because it was already imported into WMM.

I would however LOVE some baking music :)

  • aw man, i want some cookies. yum!

  • Come on over, I'll save you a couple. :)

  • Yummy looking cookies!! I like oatmeal raisin the best too!

  • They are my hubby's favourite kind, with extra raisins. :)

  • Ummm. Those look good!!! Thanks for sharing!
