i had one of these and i had nothing but problems with it especially with the 8800 gpu it burnt out then the motherboard went but still it was a good laptop when it worked
wow, 3 years later... i was gonna get myself one of these for £800 (cause its cheaper now) with dual 8800m gtx's but i payed £200 more and got an MSI GX740 because of the lower NM CPU, size, brand and 5870M so basically a desktop 5770, epic!!
Alienware ARE Dell. Dell bought them out a while back. Alienware are over priced any way, M1730 is better value for money and instead of getting something on the alienware laptop you could get Dual 9800GTX's if im not mistaken in the M1730 now. DELL = WIN
8700M GT, I can run bioshock, all total war games, spore on high, and crysis demo on mid-high easily. I do agree that a desktop would be better value for money. But I just like XPS laptops! You could check your direct x, as mine out of the box couldn't run anything without a direct x upgrade!!
Crysis? Mid-high? Either I've got one wrong DX, or something is seriously borked. I can't get more than max 40fps on crysis on medium, and 1024x768 resolution.
What processor you have? I got the 2.2Ghz one, but it shouldn't matter that much.
2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 8700m GT, 1920x1200 screen. That is my spec, not even sli. I heard bad things about sli'ing so avoided it. Check out the web for others there are loads of articles out there.
When I disabled the SLI, I got lower frames than with. Come to think of it, it might be the horrible, useless piece of no-good shit called Ageia PhysX card it got in it. That thing add more pixel's in smoke, explosions and in general.
If it's the culprit and disabling it might improve my frames, I'm going to be quite happy ;)
it's nVidia 8700M is SLI capable at 512MB of video ram. most of m1730s now are at 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme and with a standard battery of 9 cells! crazy. bet u could get at least 5 hours out of this machine portably.

This laptop, fucking, suck!
I've had nothing but trouble, games freeze occassionally all the fucking time, yes, I have updated my drivers.
Avoid this expensive shit, like the fucking plague, invest in something better, like a desktop.
And no, I don't have any malware on my machine, I have not installed anything dubious on it, it just plain suck.

Lol. I have one and i've yet to find a game that I can't run full spec. Without any problems!

What kind of games? What graphic cards do you have in it? I have the sucky 8700M GTs. They are horrible.
