@ 21.20 : Is nt it one of those classic commentary moments where they are cribbing abt the fielders being too deep and he s caught exactly on the boundary?? I ve seen one such with Ian Botham and also of some Sri lankan guy on YouTube..
@JFK2684 Umm, I think you mean Tony Greig. I will not sit idly by when someone insults the name of the great Richie Benaud. One of the best Australian Captains, leg spinner & best ever cricket commentator.
Terrific Steve Waugh Farewell and outstanding legspin, thanks for this clip, can you please upload vvs laxman's 178 in this match, I think this was one of his best innings in Australia!!! By the way there is no footage of this 178 on youtube.
@robelinda2 Can you plese upload irfan pathans two wickets where he clean bowls gilchrist with reverse swinging yorker and also sachin's couple wickets where he gets two out with leg spin caught at slip.. from same series
hey rob..can u pls upload gilchrists dismissal in the 1st innings of dis test..i remember irfan pathan getting him through an absolute ripper of an inswinging yorker..
Kumble had developed a googly with two variations since 2002: a slow loopy one (Martyn and Hayden 1st innings) and a quicker one which zipped through (Hayden 2nd innings) and Australia had a lot of trouble picking them. Steve Waugh bowed out after a magnificent career. I was praying that morning that India would win but Steve would score one finalcentury. A true great he was, always delivered under pressure.
Thanks a ton for the video! Looking forward to a few more of Kumble in the future!
Thank you so very much for this video! A gallant spell by Kumble. Another bonus point: Channel9 commentary. We got Star Sports commentary for this tour and that was most insipid (barring Bhogle and occasional appearances by Ian Chappell).
@damo24now agree completely, let Australia off the hook big time, batted too long, then never should have batted again. Classic case of a team not knowing how to win, and how to handle actually being in a dominant position. Could you imagine Steve Waugh batting on into the 3rd day after batting for two? Waugh wouldve declared at tea on day 2 or even earlier and gotten on with things. Australia were still shocked from the Adelaide loss and were talking a big game but not playing one.
@robelinda2: Interesting that you say that after what happened in Adelaide 2006 vs England. I think Ganguly's strategy all through was to use the extra hour to bat out the opposition. In this way, he reasoned that he could have fielders catching, no matter what. IMO what was crucial here was Parthiv Patel behind the stumps. I think on day 5, pretty much every batsman in the top four got a second life. One day should have been enough to bowl out Australia.
@robelinda2 Yeah -- well you have to understand that we weren't expected to win the series, so even a draw was a victory at that point -- what's more, on that last day we had a couple of decisions which could have gone our way. Also, Steve Waugh did play pretty well.
@robelinda2 but that has usually been the way in subcontinental cricket - make sure you can't lose before you try to win. Most of the really great attacking captains in history have come from Australia, the West Indies and occasionally England. Ranatunga was an abrasive jerk, but he gets begrudging respect from me for standing up for his team and trying to win games from ball one.
@damo24now: Enforcing the follow on might not have helped. It was a really good batting wicket and India wanted to let Australia bat when it was at its worst stage. Even on day 5, there were no cause for alarms. Strategy-wise, I think India were fine. Taking the catches and enforcing the stumpings on day 5 would have helped more. Maybe the only thing Ganguly could have done differently was to sacrifice 30 runs and put Australia in for 6-7 overs on the day 4.
@damo24now not agree at all...decision was absolutely right ..momentum was with australia from melbourne from 300 for one india 366 all out lose by 9 wicket ..one of the best indian series abroad ..austrlia was dominant at that time . invincible ..gangully donot lost the plot ur just over reacting ..u watch australia at that time they score 400 +plus run in a day its better to settle for draw than for fighting to save test and serious
@1983rahulsharma you have the so called best team at that time on the ropes and you have them in the field for 2 and a half days. he should have went for the kill.
@damo24i am talking about australia at that time ..look who they revolutionised test cricket .. ...u say they r on the fields for 2 and haf days did not make any sense ..aussie r the most professional team in the world cricket .thanks to dravid and laxman in kolkatta and again they repeat in adelaide test ..otherwise impossible to stop aussie ..they play a draw serious with newzeeland in australia in 2002 otherwise they white wash every team they murder south africa 5-1 in six test matches 2002
@1983rahulsharma laxman and tendulkar batted for most of that time. laxman scored 170 odd in a magnificant knock and tendulkar score 240 odd in a sublime innings. in the first inning the indians were 700 plus declared and they rolled australia with a 300 run lead. the aussies were depleted. they should nailed home the advantage in this test. but gangully played it safe and batted another day to ensure there would be a draw. bad tactics by gangully
@harmeetvirk23 To be honest, I dont think we are going to win it this time, we dont quite have a team that is dynamic enough. I really do think that India and South Africa are the two to beat, but other teams could just as easily win on the day, like England or Pakistan. Dont really give Sri Lanka a chance. So, Australia could obviously win if it goes their way, but I just have the strongest feeling that this is Sachin's World Cup......its scripted for him and he probably deserves it.
Katich will be..not quite incosolable..but not quite short of it! - Brilliant Richie Benaud :D

Fair effort from Kumble, in a match which yielded over 1700 runs.

india batted for nearly 2 and a half days in this test match. gangully lost the plot in this test. they should have enforced the follow.
