Have you tried doing 6 ebows - 6 sensors & 6 drivers to line up with the strings perhaps around the middle pickup so you get a hexaphonic sustainer guitar ? I would like to try make one after my diy sustainer guitar is done thx Lexusmaxus Singapore
@MrViantd LM386 can also be used to amplify radio signals so that's why you are probably recieving a signal. I have this problem on an amplifier I built too.
how far apart should the coils be to prevent some kind of feed back? I assume if they are too close together, the driver could effect the other one...
@asedefe The schematic at the end is as simple as it can get... you can't really simply or complicate a circuit diagram... reading a circuit diagram can be a bit strange first couple times - you just need to learn how to number pins and how to read things like capacitor and diode polarity. Google "circuit diagram symbols" and you're bound to find tons of stuff! :)
For anyone looking for the coils: Search "Magnetic Transducer" on digi-key. Look at the datasheets linked there to find the coil resistance.
Also, about the circuit diagram, is "10" a 10 ohm resistor? Also, is "47n" a .47 mF capacitor? Is there anything to know about the direction (i.e. where the + end goes, where the - end goes) of the capacitors?
@soniclife19 hi yeah i would really like to know too. can anyone help with this? i see that some of the capacitor ratings are changed from the schematic i found off google. is it supposed to be changed? thanks!
great project man...i was wondering, if the coils were bigger homemade/butchered pickup etc..to span the 6 strings, and be fitted under the strings etc..
would they still have to be 50 and 8 ohms still...then it would be a sustainer right?...........just a thought!...

Hi again, I'm trying to build this ebow, I got all the components from your diagram. The only problem is finding an 8 ohm buzzer. Any idea where i can buy these from in the UK? Also I noticed that there is a small pcb inside my 50 ohm buzzer, do I need to remove this or can I leave it.
In your video, I can't see what you cut off from the buzzer, is it just the casing and the diaphragm?
@legendari8031 I just finished building one of these a couple of hours ago. I went through several different output coils that didn't work and finally made my own with 26 gage wire wrapped around a short, fat bolt. It only had 0.8 ohms of resistance, a tenth of what it specifies here, but once I put a small permanent magnet on the end that was away from the string, it started working.
@legendari8031 Right now my ebow is mostly resonating octaves of the notes I play, but I think that its because that capacitor next to the output is acting like a high-pass filter, so I'm pretty sure the coil works fine and would work for you too.
I think that all you need to remove from your 50 ohm buzzer is the diaphragm. Basically all you need is a permanent magnet with a coil of wire wrapped around it, so you can add or remove parts to the buzzer as necessary
Is it really that simple? I've been trying to make a sustainer pickup driver and its near impossible to get it right. Thanks for this awesome demonstration, you may have saved me my electronics project.
Hello, I write to you from Mexico. I do not find the bobbins of 8 and 50 ohms. Will it be possible to do algun arrangement to replace them, probably with a transformer? Already search in ebay and in local shops and only they have the buzzer but they are not magnetic, are piezoelectricos and obviously they are not useful for this project. Greetings from Mexico.
I only find 16 ohm speakers and try to use 2 in parallel for 8 ohm coil and 3 in sérial pour 50 ohm coil. It don't work good...big noise near guitar pickup.
I dont' know why do you had a 1000 uf capacitor for you scheme, it don't exist on original scheme and don't work in my mount.
Do you sell original 8 and 50 ohm speakers ? it might be a simple ebay way to became rich....
hi,, good work,,,i have a question about the schematic... in the web i found the same circuit but your circuit has an 1000uF between 3 and 2 pins of lm386,, it´s nonpolarizated? and it´s 1000uF? thaks a lot..
OK, I understood that you need an 8 ohm and 50 ohm coil, but after you remove the copper, what do you do? Do you just connect them with wires and run a 9V battery through them?
Thank you for sharing! I got this question a couple of days. "How do ebows work?" And I go.
It got to do with simple feedback. The hard part is to get these beepers.

Also, do you have an idea how the first harmonic blocking version works? Is it just a high-pass filter or is there something more complicated there?
clerlic 4 months ago
@clerlic Nevermind, I found out that it works by reversing the current through the driving coil.

Which way and where should I place the coils physically?
