Too many hip hop appologists, skirting the real issues and making excuses for the destructive effects of this cultural degeneration. Wake up from this sleep, open your minds and think critically and question the situation carefully. d nile is not juat a river in Africa my people. Stop being in denial
@blitzgreg1 I agree. I was watching KRS-One interview on a documentary, and he was stating that Modern day " Hip Hop " that is played on the radio is ruining the black community. Hip Hop changes or the black community will get worst, and its very sad that people are actually trying to defend this shit. Its so embarrassing to see my people act like bafoons and jigaboos on T.V.. While the white people are acting like normal civilize people.
@ILUVJEZUZ94 I was starting to think that no one would get it. It's a really critical situation facing the black community and know seems to want to wake up and see what the stark reality is. the fact that ypou could see to the heart of this nonesense being perpetuated means there must be atleast some sensible people out there, so we have hope.
@ILUVJEZUZ94 Uuumm I wont go that far. White people do just as much ignorant shit as any other race does its just not broadcasted as much. I'm not saying that black-folks sometimes don't do dumb shit but its only the dumb shit that is recognized while white people's actions are given more of a multi-view and isn't narrow down to one perspective. I've NEVER heard any white person say Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck really make my people look bad.
1People are stating it wrong. It's not that positive music wont get bought, it's what ever gets radio play sells the most. Clear Channel is the reason behind what "urban radio" sounds like. The decisions on who gets played are about payola, mind control. If the leaders keep the people stupid the people are far easier to control.
2This is why they wont ever let another Chuck or KRS in. They'll gift wrap you a bafoonish coon to listen to and make him phat too. People think it's all about a party at radio, Man... Songs are so ill for programming because the beat is hypnotic, that makes radio a battle for your minds.
3The control occurs not only economically by making us materialistic but it programs us by reinforcing and emphasizing our people in our most negative circumstances (drugs, murder, sex) they feed to US (young ones) the worst image of who his is and what he should be. The people behind Clear Channel want your mind.
If Brothers put only white half nekid women in their videos, think about how fast the outraged white owners of record companies will try to shut them down
Rappers are losers who make money off of degrading their communities and any black person who supports this isretarded. Anyway in my church we have female ministers and deacons.
I disagree with this because you cant blame rap & hip hop for what a white, black, or asian woman, do to themselves a female has to want to be a hoe, a trick, or bitch, ect a rapper can never make a female into these things these are all choices made by female's themselves.
Stanley Crouch should be an icon within the black community. Some folks don't even know who Dr. Cornel West is, but lil wayne is their Icon, he informs their mores and their values. Buffy the body is the standard by which the young women measure their worth. Wake up black people. black america needs enlightening, the need s shift in paradigm or else they are setting up themselves for backwardness and darkness for ever
What are Nelly and TI doing to elevate black america from degeneration? they are are fanning the flames for personal financial gain. They acknowledge the break down in the black core of values, but do nothing to elevate it. Black america are taking all it's cues from these BRAIN DEAD fast talking hip hop degenerates instead of from the black intelligencia. Oh wait, there is no black intelligencia because of the same perpetuation of this mind numbing culture. It,s a vicious cycle
They are TOALLY MISSING THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!! The images are no longer backed up with intelligent lyrics on the subject!!!!!!! The WORDS must bring SMART comentary to the subject.
Personally, I don't like rap, hip hop, most of it anyway. I'm white. What is spoken of in this video is not just about hip hop, rap's "fault" in this country's demise. It plays huge but it ain't all that. White sitcoms, Disney, and the messes that are allowed to be in kid's level faces in the checkout lines at grocery stores, undermines our foundation too. ALL that seems to be spoken of my most, white or black, is sex, looks & money, sex, looks & money....Do we, can we, value nothing else?
Plain and simple at the end of the day, the media controls what is being put out which is controlled by the powers that be (Illuminati), whom main agenda is to make us into robots. Its all fucked up when you see about the whole picture. They just blaming the rappers to keep the attention off THEM (these evil-minded money-grubbing vultures) who do worse/evil things behind the scenes. The real truth will come to light REAL soon and everyone will see and face the facts of this thing we call LIFE!
What I found interesting was how little the women on the stage talked compared to the men... The very topic of the shallow representation of women in hiphop culture is apparent in this video, even as they critique it.
@OldSchoolApprentice It's not him selling out per say it's also saying that the media including BET is fueling and praising the bullshit that comes....sometimes its a way to force the artist to make these soft porn vids cause this is America the Land of controversy, rich poverty and fear STAKES IS HIGH! you gotta survive but sometimes your soul shouldn't be currency. I'm 21 years old looking for truth thats all
No wonder why that some black people (men and women) are jumping ship to rock, heavy metal, etc because of this, but a lot of black women has a decision to say no or yes when it comes to degrading music videos even though black rappers have a take on the degrading
I think american culture as a whole needs to wake up out of this bullshit. Its not only hip hop that has cultivated such a shallow ideal. Just take a look at reality television!
hip hop like anything else is sex, money, and big booty hoes. No ass no cash, Common make money of movies now and when is Talib Kweli droppin another album? You have to google it to find out.
some of this fools just talk shit damn i hate it.....why you arguwing if you don't like watching cool clips like tip drill ..then nobody's forcing you to watch that shit just shut the fuck up !!!
The unfortunate thing is that the prevalent version of hip hop is a four to ten minute blacksploitation film. Blacks were portrayed in certain ways in the minstrel shows of the 20s, which were also considered a mirror of what people saw in that day.
I think that the visualizations portrayed in the lyrics and videos of mainstream hip hop are a caricature more than they are a mirror. Some of us like the escape, yes, but do we really need this much coonage?
5:05 so basically what you're saying... get PAID at the expense of DESTROYING the CHILDREN? WOE TO THESE ARTIST...U REDUCE OUR CHILDREN TO HUMAN BEAST!!!
yo, women whether white or black is being portrayed as a sexual icon in hip hop music, but wat about sitcoms where men are being portrayed as stupid, dumb and irresponsible?
What did this panel discussion accomplish? Better yet, what were they trying to accomplish? Not only did they silence intelligent minds, but they placed a light over individuals who are so biased they don't know what they're arguing or even how to convey it. Not only was this confusing to follow, but a complete waste of time to the viewing audience who should've learned something.
I am a hip hop fan, but we all know that we see more women almost naked in the videos. Its not a choice (it may be) of the girl, but it is more a need of the industry. The industry (artists, record companies etc.) has created it. All through the history we can see that people/customers do not get what they want. They get what is available. And who dictates what is available.. its the industry. So a boy or girl of 13 or 17 or 26 see this and they gets conditioned, and they think this is life.
Respond to this video... Hip hop, rapping, rap groups, b-boying, grafitti artist, poets, Dj's, actual rap battles (not diss records, but actual battles and battle raps) is dead in America. Here its about whose crew or label you puts you on. Rap, well rap is still on the radio. Sort of. Hip hop is underground again. Rap is still around I guess
this must be before bet went so kidish if they letting dude say bitch wit out bleeping it I AGREE WIT T.I AND IF THE WOMEN HAS A PROBLEM WIT HIP HOP 5 YEARS AGO SHE GONNA HATE NICKI MINAJ IM A BAD BITCH AND ALL THAT SHIT WTF IS THAT SHE GOT LIL GIRLS CALLING THEMSELVES BITCHES AND ALL THIS SUCKING DICK SIGNING TITITES AND SHIT SMH
We all got to believe this is what the society has made us. Blacks didn't wanna rap about gangs, cops,if they were treated equal. It happened in 90's this racist shit..and now its been made up as hip-hop,which is been made as a culture of black. So big ass people who work in offices has no right to blame those rappers. They just get their money, thats all.
I never seen so many dumb MF's. Dyson avoids from telling those two stupid brother off by inserting his own word flow. Dyson lost points with me. The only ones I respect is Dr. Crouch and the two women. Everybody else I hope your music says DEAD!!
Rap and hip hop isn't supose to be pleasing to old people and people who dont like that music... and who the hell would want to listen to music talking about college and morals.. how gay... how can u dance to that in clubs... that host is a fag!! hip hop and rap is for adults and teens !!! Let there be different varities dont control what people can sing and what we have to listen to!!!
Rap and hip hop isn't supose to be pleasing to old people and people who dont like that music... and who the hell would want to listen to music talking about college and morals.. how gay... how can u dance to that in clubs... that host is a fag!! hip hop and rap is for adults and teens !!!
@xxrob88xx lmao!! but hip hop is dead now tho cus its not even for adults nowdays it is only for teens and im 19 and i dont like listening to this bullshit no more it just ass shaking songs and bullshit out
@xxrob88xx Even people in college and working jobs don't want to hear about that, they want RELIEF from all that 'responsible' shit. We want to let loose and have fun man. One thing I agree though is stop killing each other. Hip-hop is competitive but keep the beef on wax like Nas and Jay-Z did. Keep the violent shit metaphorical. But as far as the women go, I feel that this is more madonna/whore complex bullshit that a woman can't be sexy and attractive and at the same time have any value.
@OBSysteme This is not hiphop there is still hiphop with real truth to it, but it DOESN'T sell. The truth is that there's a thousand negative musicians that are ignorant enough to use as a tool to make money off of, to every 1 lyrical, progressive, consciencious true hiphop musician. Honestly it's all forms of pop media that are abused.
@csal1d Yes, I would have to agree with you. While my initial comments seem very much centered on african-american genres, would the video have been about another "popular" genre, I would have had a whole lot of worries to express along the same lines... but honnestly at some point i'll simply have to learn to shut my ears AND MY MOUTH, because obviously... most people really enjoy what is being served to them.... cheers!
@OBSysteme You are so right and these coons come Bamma Entertainment Television ran by Sumner Redstone {the head devil over there at Viacom} the run BET.They defend these rappers and their product ,notice that weak disclaimer when 106 and &Park go off what bull shit. Our young people are dying and getting more stupid by the minute and this so call Hip Hop AINT NO HELP AT ALL.
that's america for you. if it's about misogyny and the glorification of violence - black and white men seem to unite...
what really gets me, is how the video models' craving for recognition and their greed destroy what the modern woman has been fighting for in the last century.
as a 12 year old girl, i listened to "miss new booty" not really knowing how bad this song is.. what a silly girl i was. its terrible what hip hop has become.
I never liked record labels much. Look at Nelly, right now. If he really has that much money, make your own label. Distribute your own CDs. Break past the norm.
Think about what past artists did for hip hop. Public Emeny made Fight The Power. KRS One made You Must Learn. Big Daddy Kane made Lean On Me. A collaboration of artists called the Stop The Violence Movement made a powerful song called Self Destruction. These kids of songs made a difference. But you don't hear that kind of positivity today. The positive message has been drowned out and today's kids have no idea of the bullshit they're listening to. What is Lil Wayne or Gucci Mane saying? Huh?
They're a saying that sex sells, especially in hip hop these days. Well what sells is what's killing hip hop today. Back in the 90s, rap was positive and there was plenty of diversity. Now a days, rap has reduced itself down to almost nothing. It's garbage. And it's the kids who are going to suffer because of this because they're listening to nothing but trash. Souljah Boy, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane aren't making positive music. It's all about money and half naked women. It's stupid and sick.
@agentbl Is Eminem making good music that's helpful to society? What about the NWA when they glorified gang violence and when Snoop Dogg glorifies pimping and when Eminem glorifies raping his mother? Shit you're a sheep like everybody else in America. You're just a straight up new-school hater. Just think about things before you say it and embarrass yourself.
@TheHispanicRebel Eminem used to make good music. I haven't heard anything good from him in a while. And as for him making songs about raping his mother, I would never listen to any of that bullshit. That's the kind of tasteless trash I won't listen to. Nor should anyone else. NWA didn't always promote gang violence. Their song Express Yourself, didn't promote that. And I'm not a sheep. I don't follow the bullshit trends of today. I have a mind of my own. And I didn't embarass myself.
@agentbl If I were a sheep, I'd be following the likes of Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. I'd be walking around town with my pants down below my ass like the stupid kids (and alot of grown men) do just to fit in. I'd be listening to music that doesn't mean shit nowadays. But guess what? No, I don't do any of that shit. I don't follow the bullshit trends of today. And I have a mind of my own, so I go my own way. And I know better too. I'm also old school as well.
@agentbl I know you're old school, but you guys never criticize old school rappers. If you're gonna make fun of these new school rappers, then atleast have the balls to criticize the old school rappers who paved the way for them.
@TheHispanicRebel Okay. Since I'm old school, I'll give you an old school group that I didn't like at all... Two Live Crew. This was a group that made a lot of perverted sex songs that parents back then didn't like. I didn't like them either. There are other old school artists that I can't mention that made songs that I didn't like. Some of them I can't even remember now. But the thing about hip hop back then was that it wasn't as corporate as it is now. That's something I don't like about it.
@agentbl Man I love people like you!!!! it's good to know that some people aren't following along with the hype. Yeah mainstream hip hop now really is nothing short but commercial and auto tune. The real talent is now in the underground.
@agentbl damn did I say mainstream hip hop I meant pop shit lol. I can't call this music today hip hop. There is no originality or substance. Every rapper talks about the same things women, drugs, cars, their status as in how rich they are. It's very depressing to see that music is depleting there is no real quality anymore.
@agentbl what are you talking about, its obvious you have not heard of any hip hop/rap outside of MTV jams and the 5 songs that are played on local radio stations (not thaat there is anything wrong w/ that music) .. you are a robot b/c you're the type of guy who listens to a soulja boy song and assume that all hip hop today is that .. which is just ignorant, hip hop is as diverse now as it has ever been .. your ignorance is showing, please put it away
@agentbl it was like that in the 90's abd 80's..look at luke campbell and Ice T's cd cover..man no different...only thing is no diversity on th tv or radio there is still good hip hop it just doesnt get recognized
@agentbl yeah, alright, the music ain't all that positive now coz of the money sex and nothin else side, but back in the 90's it was all about shootin and killin, so in comparison, i'd say 2day's music is a lot more positive, especially when you've got rappers like lupe fiasco concentrated on spreading peaceful positive messages not just followin the trends for the sake of sellin...
@agentbl ... So yeh you've got your Souljah Boy's, your Gucci's, and your Weezy's of the industry, but there are plenty of Lupe's out there, who's fault is it if ppl ain't buyin it!?
@agentbl everyone's just talking in circles. Nobody is paying any mind to the facts. Ecomics 101.. First thing I learned before I could read, write or even walk...SUPPLY and DEMAND AND PEOPLE ONLY RESPOND TO INCENTIVES. Back in 90's rap was positive and VERY diverse....but that shit wasn't selling, remember? You wern't buying it. Rap was losing its moment even after Wutang Blew...Def Squad....even them ATL cats Goodie Mob.remember them? love them cats, but they weren't doin no Lil Wayne numbers..
@agentbl Even more important to consider: it's not the 'death' of hip-hop that is the sad outcome of this formula, it's the continual culture of misogyny and hatred against women that keeps them oppressed and considered lesser human beings.
@agentbl What's more important to consider: it isn't the 'death' of hip-hop that is the sad outcome of this formula; it's the culture of hatred against women that keeps them oppressed and treated as lesser human beings. Misogyny hurts everyone - it keeps women down, and makes men look stupid, and unable to think for themselves in a critical, meaningful way.
@agentbl So NWA, 2 Live Crew, Geto Boys, Too $hort, Spice 1, Snoop Dogg, Onyx, Lil Kim, and Kool G Rap didn't make music in the 90's? Most of today's rap is pretty tame compared to back in the day. All of the stuff people complain about in today's rap music (sexism, violence, and materialism) has been around for 25 years. Have you seen the Eric B & Rakim's "Paid In Full" album cover?
@agentbl really....rap in the early 90s was worse then any other time.....tupac...biggy...murder inc.....death row....nwa....thats when guns and gangsta became the thing to be so what u just put is stupidthere is positive music today....em does it wayne does it jay z does it you just dont here it... because u dont try to find it....buy the carter 3
@agentbl yes sex sell because the human is such an animal... plain and simple.... today , on TV , I saw a gril prancing he ass in her underwear, dancing in her kitchen, in her living room... BOUM! commercial ends up with what... GIANT IMAGE OF SNEAKER SHOES! yes it was not the tight panties that were for sale, but the shoes, which matched the same color as the panties.... go figure... HEY, LOOK AT THIS TIGHT ASS, now BUY THE SHOES, idiot".
@agentbl I would say that too many rappers have nothing to say and since Rap is more poetry than music... if you got nothing to say... there is no reason for us to listen... because musically.... we have to recognise that Rap does not offer much.... generic cheap beats, borrowed beat and instrument patterns, etc..... what counts is the rapper in rap, not so much the musicianship... so what to do when the rapper does not deliver anything?
The problem with hip hop today is not in the artists itself, but in the upper levels of the music industry. Greedy record executives are the ones pushing the notion that you have to disrespect women to be popular. They're the ones saying that you have to sound like this or that to sound good. They're the ones pushing the bad rap agenda. They're not pushing education or positivety. They're pushing artists into negativity so they can get that almight green dollar and that's all they care about.
the woman on the far left was right on some very major points though.
There are still plenty of good rappers nowadays with political topics and modern day discussionables out there, people just don't pay attention to them as much as they should.
Even Here on youtube, a dude like 50 is still getting more attention than for example the Unknown Prophets. The WRONG side of the music has been made mainstream. even Tupac knew that and was on his way to make a change before getting shot.
Now..alot of people in thier KNOW gooding doggone well they did NOT understand what Dr. Dyson said because I myself am very intelligent but I could not follow the 1st time.
WICTHCRAFT & SORCERY ARE THE MAIN TOOLS UTILIZED IN YHE INDUSTRY. YOU WILL NOT GET A DEAL UNLESS YOU SUBMIT YOUR SOUL TO THE DEMONIC FORCES THAT CONTROL MAINSTREAM HIP-HOP.
ive always thought nelly was a little punk but in whole segment, he actually defended himself from all the attacks thrown at him. I'll admit, he did good here. i see nelly differently now. as far as the whole issue with hip-hop, its up to the new generation to make the necessary change for a better future for hip-hop. there is still hope. Hip-hop brought us together. lets keep it like that. Unify! stop the bullshit mainstream sound and bring out your true voice. dont be controlled. enough said.
Also rappers should just shut up if they are not KRS-ONE, Zach De La Rocha, Immortal Technique or Chuck-D. Commercial rappers blame others and never take responsibility. They are hypocrites wich sell their soul to the audience. Weak minded and hearted people.
A big revolution or awakening, keeping it real instead of beefing and faking. Wake up and fill your empty mind and body with soul and spirit. Open your heart and let God clear it.
People today are lost and blinded. Looking for spirituality, meaning or wisdom can't find it. It is sad because I can see the world is slowly dying. Superfical and egoistical people deep inside screaming and crying. What another
man does gives you no right to do it also. Take some responsibility and set a right example or you will fall so. We replaced God with materialistic and power. What we need is a spiritual shower.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Tupac's "Keep Ya Head Up", a sing all about respecting the sisters in the ghetto.
and dr. Dyson , has to be one of the best spoken people I've ever heard. he knows what he's talking about , what with the whole quoting of Tupac an Biggie in an earlier video. they're all great speakers.
Dam This Go Hard... But Yo I Got A Video That I Think Yall All Might Like Do Me A Favor And Stop By My Page And Listen To It Your Feed Back Would Be Greatly Appreciated... Thanks Yall 1love Forever
lol T.I. has alotta songs witha articulate meaning, goin back to trap muzik im serious
even dead and gone on paper trail wich was a popular single. its just a reflection of his life,
if he writes a song like live your life, hes gona be the motivator and the articulate tip you asking for , but if rihanna wasnt on the hook that song might not even gotten radio play wich is fucken sad

I am a hip hop fan, but we all know that we see more women almost naked in the videos. Its not a choice (it may be) of the girl, but it is more a need of the industry. The industry (artists, record companies etc.) has created it. All through the history we can see that people/customers do not get what they want. They get what is available. And who dictates what is available.. its the industry. So a boy or girl of 13 or 17 or 26 see this and they gets conditioned, and they think this is life.

@OBSysteme This is not hiphop there is still hiphop with real truth to it, but it DOESN'T sell. Honestly it's all forms of pop media that are abused.

@csal1d Yes, I would have to agree with you. Huh?
agentbl 1 year ago
They're a saying that sex sells, especially in hip hop these days. Well what sells is what's killing hip hop today. Back in the 90s, rap was positive and there was plenty of diversity. Now a days, rap has reduced itself down to almost nothing. It's garbage. And it's the kids who are going to suffer because of this because they're listening to nothing but trash. Souljah Boy, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane aren't making positive music. It's all about money and half naked women. It's stupid and sick.
agentbl 1 year ago 36
@agentbl Is Eminem making good music that's helpful to society? What about the NWA when they glorified gang violence and when Snoop Dogg glorifies pimping and when Eminem glorifies raping his mother? Shit you're a sheep like everybody else in America. You're just a straight up new-school hater. Just think about things before you say it and embarrass yourself.
TheHispanicRebel 1 year ago
@TheHispanicRebel Eminem used to make good music. I haven't heard anything good from him in a while. And as for him making songs about raping his mother, I would never listen to any of that bullshit. That's the kind of tasteless trash I won't listen to. Nor should anyone else. NWA didn't always promote gang violence. Their song Express Yourself, didn't promote that. And I'm not a sheep. I don't follow the bullshit trends of today. I have a mind of my own. And I didn't embarass myself.
agentbl 1 year ago
@agentbl If I were a sheep, I'd be following the likes of Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. I'd be walking around town with my pants down below my ass like the stupid kids (and alot of grown men) do just to fit in. I'd be listening to music that doesn't mean shit nowadays. But guess what? No, I don't do any of that shit. I don't follow the bullshit trends of today. And I have a mind of my own, so I go my own way. And I know better too. I'm also old school as well.
agentbl 1 year ago
@agentbl I know you're old school, but you guys never criticize old school rappers. If you're gonna make fun of these new school rappers, then atleast have the balls to criticize the old school rappers who paved the way for them.
TheHispanicRebel 1 year ago
@TheHispanicRebel Okay. Since I'm old school, I'll give you an old school group that I didn't like at all... Two Live Crew. This was a group that made a lot of perverted sex songs that parents back then didn't like. I didn't like them either. There are other old school artists that I can't mention that made songs that I didn't like. Some of them I can't even remember now. But the thing about hip hop back then was that it wasn't as corporate as it is now. That's something I don't like about it.

@agentbl Even more important to consider: it's not the 'death' of hip-hop that is the sad outcome of this formula, it's the continual culture of misogyny and hatred against women that keeps them oppressed and considered lesser human beings.
truejinx12 10 months ago
@agentbl What's more important to consider: it isn't the 'death' of hip-hop that is the sad outcome of this formula; it's the culture of hatred against women that keeps them oppressed and treated as lesser human beings. Misogyny hurts everyone - it keeps women down, and makes men look stupid, and unable to think for themselves in a critical, meaningful way.
truejinx12 10 months ago
@agentbl So NWA, 2 Live Crew, Geto Boys, Too $hort, Spice 1, Snoop Dogg, Onyx, Lil Kim, and Kool G Rap didn't make music in the 90's? Most of today's rap is pretty tame compared to back in the day. OBSysteme 8 months ago
OBSysteme 8 months ago
The problem with hip hop today is not in the artists itself, but in the upper levels of the music industry. Greedy record executives are the ones pushing the notion that you have to disrespect women to be popular. They're the ones saying that you have to sound like this or that to sound good. They're the ones pushing the bad rap agenda. They're not pushing education or positivety. They're pushing artists into negativity so they can get that almight green dollar and that's all they care about.
agentbl 1 year ago
the woman on the far left was right on some very major points though.
There are still plenty of good rappers nowadays with political topics and modern day discussionables out there, people just don't pay attention to them as much as they should.
Even Here on youtube, a dude like 50 is still getting more attention than for example the Unknown Prophets. The WRONG side of the music has been made mainstream. even Tupac knew that and was on his way to make a change before getting shot.

sad the way the shit flipped flop. Heart and soul once so dominant are now not
so prominant. Mc s became industry toys round the continent. A million

if he writes a song like live your life, hes gona be the motivator and the articulate tip you asking for , but if rihanna wasnt on the hook that song might not even gotten radio play wich is fucken sad
the KING period
