@MrAmericanzombie no the first word she said was water when she was seven years old at the pump. I understand why you think her first word was it though cause i used to think that too. I live about an hour away from her birthplace and go there all the time cause i have been involved with the play for 5 years now. But her first word was water because she learned how to say water when she was a baby before she got sick. In the video she is clearly much older than seven years old. thanks though!
@Prestleybram I am reading an anthology of Helen and Anne's writings. Helen did not speak at the time of her illness. She used the manual alphabet. She had a working vocabulary of about 60 words or actions when she learned the word "water." Through that word she finally understood about language. From that simple word she became a prolific and powerful writer. The fact that she knew and used English, French, German, Latin and Greek is stunning. That fate put those two together is a true miracle.
@BluePatriotWoman Yes it was fate that put Helen and Ann together. They were a perfect match and Ann in a way lived the same than Helen as a child,so she could fully understand her and help her!!what a great destiny..
Special mention to you prestleybram, too. The documentary is a success;the music very well chosen, and the photos beautiful.A complete portrait with pictures of braille alphabet and manual alphabet.Bravo and thanks again!!helen's childhood home was marvelous.
I remember reading about her when i was 12. Soon after I was so inspired by her I took a sign langauge class to communicate with those with this sort of disability. I tell you it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm proud to articulate for them when ever I encounter some one with a hearing impairment
Hey, great job on this documentary! It just goes to show that you can't automatically assume that people with disabilities can't do anything for themselves.
Prestleybram, thank you for this lovely video.
