Im a straight, male ballet dancer, and i have the hottest dancer girlfriend. The ratio from women to men in the ballet world is enormous, and you get to see girls the same age as you in skin tight leotards and tights. WHAT IS GAY ABOUT THAT?! i would rather break my balls in a ballet class and have all the girls drooling over me or get my ass slapped by a guy in a towel. Thats all im saying. Sports are awesome though, not a downer on them at all, just for people who think its feminine.

I don't think it's gay, but I can REALLY see where people are coming from when they see it as feminine. I'm sorry, but its just really blatant to me. And don't give me that "it will make you attractive to girls" crap. That does not make it less gay, it just seems more embarrassing and narcisitic. If I were a ballet dancer I would want to be like Barysnokov: strong, ugly, but FIERCE on stage.

wow@gowanpearljam you may be kidding, but you are SADLY mistaken.Ballet is one of the most rigorous and obstinate physical strengths.Dancer's muscles aren't compressed and bulked, like a football player's, they are lengthened and elongated, but still stronger than a football player's.dancers go through hours daily of rigorous training only to be judged by ignorant and uneducated rednecks like you.In fact, almost 2/3of the men in ballet are straight as heck, and smarter than you.

I believe being a male ballet dancer not only improves you physically, but it also aids your mental health. It teaches you balance and how to treat ladies. I believe ballet should be more highly respected by all people. Male and Female.

I grew up on the streets fighting and doing stupid shit..... not sure how I'm alive today...

Anyway, cleaned up life and got into college and classes got me near dance studios and ballet classes and was stunned at grace and athleticism of ballet dancers.

Wished I hadn't screwed up my life when I was younger as too old now to go into ballet but at least have come to appreciate and love the beauty of ballet.

I believe that the male in ballet today is not merely so much underrated.... as he gets a real bum rap. He is as unappreciated as a really challenging script for a movie in Hollywood. One of the few people who don't take a "primer danseur noble" (meaning ace male ballet dancer) are ballerinas looking for a good partner... and companies looking for a worthwhile dancer.

I've taken for a decade now... planning going on longer. I salute the rest of you, guys.

I have to salute the danseur-- the few, proud men out there trying to make leaping around in pantyhose to classical music a respectable, dignified profession.

Not just the pro pulling in several thousand a week, but... these baby ballerinos right here. The next generation is still fighting strong, too. There's a revolution for the Y chromosone to have a place in the ballet studio--even the soldiers still in pediatrics.

Ok my son is starting ballet again soon. really soon :S and he needs to get some tights and a leotard or a unitard. his old shop has shut down since he hasnt been going since he was 8 we didnt know. Wow, boys don't really need more scholarships since there are so many scholarships already because they're in demand. It's the girls that need more financial support. That's just my personal experience since I always got a relatively easy ride scholarship wise back in the mid 90s even though I started dance at 21.
