I actually Met Jerry Wexler...its kinda funny..I was only 20 and I was working for a gourmet store and I had made a deliverly to his house on Siesta Key in Sarasota. He was so polite and nice to me. The guy showed me around his office that had all the records and told me so much about him. I will never forget the moments I spent with him even though they werent many. Its actually really cool. At the time I really didnt know who he was. Until he told me.
It's gratifying to hear this song with the big orchestral production it so deserves. Etta's singing is outstanding and delightful of course, but this is an emotional, complex song and can't just rest on the singer.
I grew up on this album. It was my mom's fav! I always loved it and one year found the CD on Amazon and bought it for her. She was thrilled! Thanks for stopping by!
I was looking for Dusty Springfield's version and saw Jerry's name in the title of this. I currently have an open question about him on Yahoo Answers. Thanks for posting, I've always liked Etta's cover. A minor note-Jerry had nothing to do with Stax apart from the fact that Atlantic and Stax had a working relationship involving licensing, studio use, etc. He wa, however, a pillar of Atlantic Records.
Thanks for the note! What a silly girl I am. This whole album is superb and I definitely recommend it. Little bit of gospel, little bit of soul! Just the right amount of each!
I really appreciate your stopping by Hans. Thanks! You must have seen me in philipsmovies favourites because you mention him in your comment. He's a very talented artist and I'm honored. His videos are very inspiring, music too. Thanks again! Kate
I had hoped you'd say that philipsmovies! I was thinking about your style obviously when I made the video (except the music might be different!) Thanks so much!
Thanks! Did you get the Jerry/ Etta album yet? This is one of the songs on it. I'm going to put the playlist together when I finally get all the songs up. What a sad coincidence. Another piece of my heart this week :(
It feels like I've been waiting so long for this video and it was worth the wait! I so enjoyed this video and the music to go with it! ***** (5 Stars)
Does this mean that you're not gong to do Suzi Quatro's "Lipstick"? Like the video, but it's just not Joplin! She gave it more heart, no pun intended.
No! It's just that I promised this entire album first. I also promised a Fedora-wearer two songs... got sidetracked... did a tribute...now back on this album which ends up being yet another tribute... this is getting to be too much for me. But I'm trying! I'll keep trying I swear! This tribute was the second producer of Staxx (Isaac Hayes died last Saturday) in a week. A dying generation of great music. :(
Hehe, I didn't know that there were others out there making requests, too, but of course there are! Duh me! I wasn't thinking, sorry! Yes, it is sad to see some of the giants go like that. I once heard that celebrities go in threes, but I ain't superstitious ;-]
Well, actually you are only the third request and I still can't keep up!!! I have to always be on my toes with my business too, so it's like if the song suits the outfit... Halloween is coming too, and I have to really get cranking or get stuck with all my costumes til next year! But you know I make so many videos at a time. It'll be any time now. Once I become familiar with the song, I'll know what outfit is right for it.
Cool! I bet that I am the only one who provided you with the song, too. Or am I wrong about that? If you want to see my own YouTube video making check out my alternate account TheBlackJaguar and Harlow's "Don't Say We're Over." I only uploaded it an hour ago ;-]

Jerry just worked for Atlantic. He didn't work for Stax. But he did arrange the distribution deal that Stax had with Atlantic though.

Somebody else tuned in and let me know that. I was too lazy to fix it I guess! Thanks though for clearing that up (you know stuff! Cool)
