  • I love this music it rules like no tomorrow !!!

  • It's sad that in the new release the score was changed completely. Sorry but fuck the extra scenes.... I miss the captivating magic of the original score.

  • I agree. If they were they were to enhance it they should have used the music from Tangerine Dream. It sounded so much better. The music itself had a sense of magic and power that has not been seen since The Lord Of The Rings. Even with that movie Legend holds so much more splendor and elegance than most fantasy movies has to offer. This was truly one of a kind. Tangerine Dream helped to make it as such.

  • Yes, totally agree... tangerine dream makes the movie much more mystical. This movie was a legend!

  • Too bad you can't get the full version of the movie with this version of the soundtrack. You either pick the butchered versions with this soundtrack or the super long version with goldsmiths soundtrack. I have the blu-ray version of this movie, so glad i bought it.

  • Where's the narrated intro?

  • best movie ever!!!

  • i love legend one of my fave movies

  • This really is a beautiful piece of music...love it

  • I fukn love this movie and all the music in it!

  • This definetly should have been part of the Skyrim music

  • jerry goldsmith is truegenious but i stil havent watched the directors cut because i just cant imagine this film without the beautful TD music. it truly evokes that world of fantasy and romance.

  • i think lilys VERY beautiful like if you agree, because my boyfriend says this movie is just like our love he looks just like jack and i look like lilly thats what he says to me

  • i love the way the music sounds on legend! awesome movie, gots funny parts, battle parts, wats no 2 lik?

  • I own both soundtracks of this film. The Tangerine Dream and Jerry Goldsmith scores and THIS SONG is not on EITHER ONE. I love this song! It should have been on the album.

  • I really wish that this went on longer....

  • THIS SONG IS BAD ASS!!!!!!

  • Me and my two son's know this film word for word. Since they were pups they've loved this film. Now 27 and 24 they still love it. The older one has got his kids into it. It reminds me of growing up in Yorkshire, the fields near our house were known as fairy glen. Inocent times in the 60's. Steam trains and picnics. Go to them now and watch the jams on the M 62. Progress who needs it??? KEEP DREAMING EVERYONE XX

  • Does anyone know what the song is that plays near the start when Lily is looking for Jack and then when he blindfolds her and takes her to the unicorns?

  • The American cut is such a travesty compared to the International (and now Director's Cut) version! The only thing that makes up for the US version is the awesome Tangerine Dream score. Such an awesome movie!

  • @banglefaar The Director's Cut sucks. I'm sorry, but the studio was right in forcing Scott to recut this movie.

  • two ppl are cross-eyed and hit the wrong tab thats all ppl

  • 2 people have no soul lol. This movie was fantastic fantasy and the music never fails to capture it's epicness.

  • i would like to dance to this on my wedding day

  • This movie make you wish there were such things as unicorns and fairies. I never get tired of sitting down and watching this film. I hope my son grows up to appreciate movies and music like this. When I was little this movie made me dream and most kids today don't do enough of that...

  • Ocarina of time....

  • @BigH22002 I was thinking the SAME Exact thing :) I wonder if the makers of Zelda had this movie in Mind allll along !

  • @test540va they did as a matter of fact, the creator of zelda has stated in the past the this film was his inspiration for the zelda games, and i would imagine that would apply most to ocarina of time.

  • @joemel2 Damn... after watching this Movie I can not doubt your word at all :)

  • @joemel2 Um, no. The original Legend of Zelda was in-productio as far back as 1983, and Miyamoto would have had no window of opportunity to see this movie. Legend being the inspiration for Legend of Zelda is nothing more than a meme.

  • @ElvenRaptor sorry, seem to have my facts wrong there. I was sure I'd heard that but you're right the dates don't fit. Legend IS very similar to ocarina of time though, una and navi being a prime case.

  • @joemel2 ...They're not at all alike. Fairies have been hero's helpers in many tales.

  • Anyone know what kind of flute that is ? BTW this movie is so bad ass.

  • Sounds like video game music

  • This movie was like a dream the first time I saw it. LOVE 80’s fantasy. Nothing like em!

  • @bubby14 you are so very true, no fantasy films are like the 80's no more, u cant beat Legend or Krull or Big trouble in little china, i can name more great 80's fantasy movies but i only get so much characters to use :P movies with crap CGI ruin movies today u can have the greastest movie ever but if the cgi sucks then the movie sucks, nothing beats 80's special effects for instance think of tim curry how he looked in this movie think of the makeup he went through.

  • I have the complete soundtrack as a bootleg--I think I'm maybe one of about ten people in the world (probably an exaggeration) that has it.

The music that TD recorded for this film is (pardon the pun, certainly not intended) legendary; in fact, the "extended" version of "Loved By the Sun" has all the "flute" music at the end for which most folks are searching.

  • @architeuthis1066 Any chance you could upload a zip of the bootleg? I can't find it anywhere.

  • Thank you for uploading this.

  • my balls just got tingly

  • Tangerine Dream's music is what made this movie so interesting, the atmosphere made the movie a lot darker.

If you've seen the one with Jerry Goldsmith's score you know what I'm talking about.

Best fantasy movie of all time! Tim Curry = Best devil of all time!

  • i loved this films music by tangerine dream.i bought the CD now deleted, and the hard to find 20th anniversary edition CD. just wish they had put that score on the DVD instead of the original USA version jerry goldsmith score PANTS! i want the european score we know and love ,is your love strong enough, loved by the sun, the dance, the lord of darkness, made the film.any person who watched the film in 85 listened to that score, what the hell were they thinking using the goldsmith score,

  • LUV THIS MUSIC

  • Am I the only one who likes TD's score to this film better than Jerry Goldsmith's?

Don't get me wrong, I love Goldsmith, he truly was the maestro. I just think this is TD's best score, and it fit the film perfectly.

  • @zenmachinefilms agreed. 100%

  • @zenmachinefilms Y'know, I disagree that the Tangerine Dream score fits the film perfectly, but honestly I do prefer it just because it's the one I grew up with. They're both awesome scores, but this is the one that I really identify with the film, if only for the nostalgic, sentimental value of it.

  • @zenmachinefilms You're not alone. Goldsmith was a great composer, just not for this movie. I felt that the TD original soundtrack set this apart from other fantasy movie music and I rather like it.

  • @zenmachinefilms This movie is not the same without it's original soundtrack.

  • @zenmachinefilms I can't agree more!!!

  • @zenmachinefilms I grew up on TD and when I heard Goldsmith's I felt like I was watching a different movie because it seemed "out of place" or something. Glad I'm not the only one!

  • @zenmachinefilms I have to agree with ya. Love Tangerine Dream version. The one i remember as kid.

  • One of my favorites. I absolutely love this!

  • I know that kitaro did this song but what is it called?

  • @foxfaith24 Tangerine Dream did it, not Kitaro.

  • Reminds me of my childhood and innocent times

  • this song gives me chills

  • I love this song. Its by Kitaro. wish it was longer

  • @NadiaAngel26

    The music is Tangerine Dream.

  • I love this song. Its by Kitaro

  • I wish this track was longer, I love it!

  • Ridley Scott is a genius, he's created some of the most artisitc epic cinematic masterpeices ever: Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, Legend...to name a few!

  • @somethinglacking1

    I love Ridley Scott!

  • This song is not on the tangerine dream soundtrack.... I NEEEEED it lol anyone knows where to find it?

  • @Spirito2008 nvm I scrolled down to where u had the name I found it thanks you all, I have to agree... I cannot watch the director's cut/european version without the music from tangerine dream.. it's just not the same...

  • @Spirito2008

Use a youtube video downloader to download the song off of Youtube. I use the program called Dvd Video Soft for when I want or need something off of Youtube. After you download the program all you do is go to the video you want and copy the web browser link and paste it where it says to paste it at on the program and then you download it onto your computer. Easy as pie. Hope this helps. :D

  • just simply the best fantacy movie's #1 in my book

  • 1 of my all time favorite movies

  • these guys are like the gods of ambient...

  • This was my favorite movie as a kid even before i understood the underlying themes of the story.

  • Wow....I loved the music in this movie. It used to make my mind immediately go off into daydreaming. Still one of my fave movies.

  • God I feel like Im going to go into a coma evertime I hear this!!!! It is ssssooooooo beautiful!!! My favorite 80's movie!!!!

  • anyone know where to find the sheet music of this like the notes

  • This song makes me feel like taking Harry Potters Wand and shovein it up someones ass hole... Seriously!!!!!!!

  • Epic greatness.. one of my all time favorite movies, and sound tracks. Spectacular and well written..

  • @Doubtful Grace...Me too! I was super dissappointed :( I can't find the original anywhere...

  • @JunieBJones16

buy the ultimate edition dvd set, it has both versions

  • The new version that cuts out all of this wonderful music, completely destroyed the movie for me. I have to find the ORIGINAL movie with the original scores. I wont settle for anything else.

  • I think the origional was the version that you dont like. I was a little surprised myself. But it happens. I mean, the voice of darth vader and the origional soundtrack was pretty bad before they changed it. I think same applies to legend, although some might disagree, since the origional soundtrack to this movie is becoming more the norm.

I belive its the directors cut you want to avoid.

  • This music and movie are perfect for eachother. together they create a world of mysticism and enchantment. two masterpieces molded together to create one

  • Does anyone know where I can find an MP3 of this?! I've been looking for years and found nothing!

  • kitaro- tangerine dream

  • kitaro- tangerine dream it'll be on limewire

  • I always loved this music. I remember being excited for the directors cut, but the music-especially the music at the end-was just atrocious, and bad. This makes it so much more epic and beautiful.

  • it was the jerry score that was directed for children. Tangerine dream was more fitted for adults and the american cattle...lol

  • Is there a version of this on DVD that isn't the directors cut? Its alright, but I bought it and it doesn't have the fantastic music I remember when I used to watch it on VHS.

It just doesn't feel right in comparison.

  • I totally agree!!!! This is what made me watch the movie when i first saw it on vhs!

  • I have both soundtracks the one written by Tangerine Dream and the other written by Jerry Goldsmith. which is completely differant. The opening song is somewhat differant than as it songs in "Loved by the Sun" which is unfortunate. My friends Dad wrote this movie, and I have asked him about it. He said that he only approved the score after the studio pressured him to use Tangerine Dream because they thought it would make it more popular to a younger crowd.

  • Dude if your friends dad wrote the script for the movie why don't you ask him to issue the idea to remake the movie over again. Dude this movie can easily be more entertaining than Twilight bro. Plus if your dad's friend really wrote the script he left out what happens to Blix and the other goblins and pox so there should be more to tell.

  • I'm going home tomorrow and I will ask him if I get the chance. I think the biggest differance is that unlike Twilight, Legend was written to just be a movie, it wasn't based on a book. So there was never any continuation of the story. Another writer from my home town, his books are being made into movies as well because they have a huge following of book readers. His name is Chris Paolini and he wrote "Eragon". I have never met Chris but he started out selling them at the local grocery store.

  • Anyone know where I can find the original version on DVD? Not that remastered garbaged (though I own the remastered DVD also, I'd like the original).

  • I LOVE this movie! "I vote we run like hell!" "I second the motion!"

  • i love this song but i cant find it or at least what its called... anyone know?

  • Its actually it is the end part of Loved by the sun by Tangerine dream

  • one of the best fantasy movies out there but it never got good reviews for some reason.... it's oldschool but is a collection of mine for sure....

  • Yay I love the beginning music titles ty

  • This movie, this soundtrack... some of the most magical, dreamlike music I have ever experienced. Brilliant.

  • They should remake this movie or at least make a sequel, Ridley Scott forgot to kill off or at least show us what happen to the Goblins Blix just disappeared after turning in the last surviving unicorn to Darkness then, what happened to him? this movie left too many unanswered questions so they should remake it or sequel it to make it better plus these days any good vs evil movie would do the audience well.

  • what is this song called???

fantastic movie i want to watch it again but can't find it anywhere to buy!! grrr!

  • Found mine at Best Buy

  • i loved watching this movie with my cousins and my dad!!! We watched it every halloween as well! this opening movie always gets me

  • Best movie of all time. This song gives me chills and takes me back to the day when I watched this movie 1,000 times and believed that I could find unicorns in my back yard if I looked hard enough!

  • Should never give up on it. As long as you keep those beliefs you can stay young at heart

  • @hotmrswichers thank you for that.

  • @hotmrswichers You can.

  • why is this song not on the soundtrack? I got it just for this track, and it's not on the damn CD!

  • This stirs so many emotions for me, as a kid with my bro and old mother. We all love and remember the times that movies were great, music was fine and fashion was....different. For all that remember this give me a thumbs up, lol.

  • @weaselGore - I'm right there with you! BIG thumbs up!

  • @weaselGore They just don't make movies like they used to....they better NEVER remake this one or the Labyrinth

  • i love this movie, i just watched the directors cut and the music is different, although a lot of scenes are cut the theatre versions music suits the movie better

  • its a great movies. and your right

The US theatrical Version includes the Tangerine dream soundtrack. But did you also know that it was the us version edited slightly that BBC 1 used as there first Nicam broadcast movie back in the day so thats what prompted me to import the american version

  • I purchased the music cd by T.D way before i had accually seen the movie. I am a massive fan of brian ferry and at the time the track was only avalable on the movie soundtrack. I then hired the movie .Imagine my surprise the soundtrack was by somebody complety different. then the BBC aired the u.s version and iwas hooked.

Legend Soundtrack - Tangerine Dream - Prologue (Rare)

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone know where I can find this song? JUST this song. The OST is expensive, but I don't mind paying a little for a song that makes me remember my childhood...

  • My only advice would be to try limewire & download it off there......if u use limewire that is. I used to download all sorts of random theme songs from it.

  • even if you bought the soundtrack, THIS track isn't on it!!!!!

I bought it years ago and was gutted!

    Maybe it's been re-released, but I haven't seen it.

  • the other song is loved by the sun

  • Yes the soundtrack is great, unfortunately this score is mixed with another song and you do not get to hear the beauty like you hear it when it is alone.

  • I can't find it on Itunes!!!!

  • You can find the sound track on amazon although it is expensive.

  • i have a recording of this on vhs, and the opening was narrated, yet every where else i look and on my dvd its not....was it just narrated for tv?

  • I bought the dvd a few months ago but sadly it didn't have the tangerine dream score.there were scenes missing & it didn't even have these opening credits.I live in wales & im wondering if they sell the original version over here, as after watching this i cant enjoy it the same way.

  • unfortunatly the tangerine dream sound track version was only for the american market so the dvd was only realesed on that format. British dvd players wont play it .You have to have a player that reads both. A dual reader or something

  • so im guessing i can only get the tangerine dream version if i buy imported on line then?

  • you can also buy the 20th golden ed with both movies but not sure if imported ur not .Expect it to be mega bucks.

  • i wish they released this track...seems like a variation of Loved By The Sun..minus the vocals...

  • Tangerine Dreams. The godfathers of trance music. :)

  • who does this music from this movie

  • It's too bad Tom don't acknowledge this movie,he is awesome in it.

  • sadly/unbeleivably, this was his first box office flop.i will never understand why??!

  • What do u mean he dosen't acknowledge this movie?? Does he act like it wasn't him?!?!

  • I think he might not acknowledge this movie for the very reason that he is a Scientologist and this movie has biblical undertones.

  • i guess? didnt know he didnt acknowledge this one either...weird, i love this flick.

  • Once long ago before there was such

a thing as time the world was shrouded

in darkness Then came the splendor of light,

bringing life and love into the Universe

and the Lord of Darkness retreated deep

into the shadows of the earth, plotting

his return to power, by banishing light

    forever

  • But precious light is protected,

harbored in the souls of Unicorns, the

most mystical of all creatures Unicorns are safe from the Lord of

Darkness, they can only be found by

the purest of mortals. Such a mortal

is Jack, who lives in Solitude with the

animals of the forest A beuitful girls named Lily loves Jack

with all her heart. In there innocence, they

believe only goodness exists in the world

  • Together they will learn there can be

no good without evil, No love without

hate, No heaven without hell, No light

without darkness The harmony of the Universe

depends upon an eternal balance. Out

of the struggle to maintain that balance,

    comes the birth of Legends.

  • i loved the story...can anyone write it to me by sendng a personal message coz i can't see this words as well

  • this is my favorite piece of music in the whole movie i think.. just because its relaxing to me... i love it :)

i could sleep to this music

  • If they could do a movie like Legend back in the 80s, we should be able to have a major motion picture adaptation of Zelda!

  • amen

  • It's too bad this music wasn't included on the soundtrack. It's one of my favorite parts of the TD score.

  • does anyone know how i can find the extended version of unicorn theme its like 7 minutes long?

  • there's a 20th anniversary edition of the soundtrack that was released with all the extended versions of the music as well as unreleased tracks including this "prologue". It's well worth it, i bought mine from ebay. try amazon.

  • Does anyone know why there are 2 versions of the film with 2 different scores?

After watching it when i was younger & loving the tangerine dream soundtrack i saw it on tv a few years ago with a new soundtrack which just spoioled the eerie atmosphere of the original?!

  • The Tangerine Dream version is not the original. The movie released in Europe, months before USA, with Jerry Goldsmith's score. Ridley Scott always disagreed with the recut and all editing's changes Universal made. US producers feared US audience just can't understand the movie the way it was so they add this written opening, change the music because "TD was more bankable", add a green flash on the lily's dance scene...etc.

Though, since 1985, LEGEND is more popular in Europe than in the USA.

  • I have both Version of the movie on collection DVD. Ridley Scott now says that he like both scores for different reasons. But still disagrees with the missing scenes.

  • May be Scott doesn't dislike TD's score from Universal's cut (For some reasons I'd like to know), he chose Goldsmith's score for the "Ultimate Director's Cut" though...

  • If i was to buy the dvd, would i be getting the td or the goldsmith score?

I dont think i would enjoy it as much with the goldsmith score!!

  • Reverse for me : I just can't enjoy LEGEND without Goldsmith's score. I feel TD's music too synthetic for Fantasy.

I can understand you prefer TD's score though since I guess it was your first watch of the movie and you grew loving the movie that way.

One point is for sure, you all are lucky guys since Universal released all versions of the movie in USA. FOX Studios are the copyright's owner here in France and The Ultimate Director's Cut box sadly still didn't release in Zone 2 so far...

  • If you Buy the Ultimate Edition you get both versions of the movie. The Extended version (original) Has the Goldsmith score. The Shorter Version has Tangerine Dream score

  • the harmony of the universe depends upon an eternal balance

  • Silk Road" by Kitaro

  • When are they going to start making GOOD fanatsy movies like this again. Once not over loaded with sponser or media hype. Nowa days seems like we are in a fanatsy rute where is over done with what big corp. want to sell or promote toy lines.

  • Fantasy movies today are made with CGI and all that crap. This wasn't. And that's why it has a beautiful atmosphere and scenery.

  • omg this music is so dramatic and so magical i so so so so wish unicorns existed. but they do in my heart

  • Oh man, such memories with this movie, I still have my VHS, boy, I need to buy the DVD before it gets warped too much. This is an amazing score that honestly began my fascination with buying score albums over the soundtracks.

  • Score albums are the best soundtracks...Legend, Romeo & Juliet, The Crow, Last of the Mohicans, just to name a few...

  • Sweeet

  • i know kitaro..he is very good but he did not do this. Tangerine Dream can take credit for this masterpiece. If you like this check out "Silk Road" by Kitaro....simply a materpiece that goes beyond this song.

  • No, the band is Tangerine Dream and they are German.

  • This song is so magical, i could listen to it over and over and i would never get tired of hearing this. You say it's not on the album?? thats too bad, it should be... by the way is it a flute playing this song????Ridley Scott did very well with the movie.

  • I think its a pan flute. This song is on the song "Loved by the Sun", which is on the album, but this segment is only on the last 20 seconds or so, just before the song ends, so it kind of leaves you hanging. Why they didnt put the entire song I just dont know, and will never understand.

  • quite simply because it did not fit both in tone and timing

  • But it did fit perfectly in that song. Had they extended the song with this entire segment it would have literally 'completed' the song.

  • I agree; in the complete form we briefly hear at the end of Loved By The Sun, it's the best track in the movie. I wish they'd release it as a full track in its own right.

  • i have the soundtrack to this film but this music isn't on there- anybody know why? Its a great track and i'm gutted that it is not on the album :(

  • Truly amazing opening score. I've had this music for years and never get tired of hearing it. Amazing.

  • The music in the opening scene is the best.... been searching for it for years.

  • I love Tangerine Dream. The godfathers of trance music. Synth pioneers ahead of their times.

  • Agreed. Look at Risky Business as well, another great movie with Tangerine Dream's music. It's just wonderful music period.
