It's sad that in the new release the score was changed completely. Sorry but fuck the extra scenes.... I miss the captivating magic of the original score.
I agree. If they were they were to enhance it they should have used the music from Tangerine Dream. It sounded so much better. The music itself had a sense of magic and power that has not been seen since The Lord Of The Rings. Even with that movie Legend holds so much more splendor and elegance than most fantasy movies has to offer. This was truly one of a kind. Tangerine Dream helped to make it as such.
Too bad you can't get the full version of the movie with this version of the soundtrack. You either pick the butchered versions with this soundtrack or the super long version with goldsmiths soundtrack. I have the blu-ray version of this movie, so glad i bought it.
jerry goldsmith is truegenious but i stil havent watched the directors cut because i just cant imagine this film without the beautful TD music. it truly evokes that world of fantasy and romance.
i think lilys VERY beautiful like if you agree, because my boyfriend says this movie is just like our love he looks just like jack and i look like lilly thats what he says to me
I own both soundtracks of this film. The Tangerine Dream and Jerry Goldsmith scores and THIS SONG is not on EITHER ONE. I love this song! It should have been on the album.
Me and my two son's know this film word for word. Since they were pups they've loved this film. Now 27 and 24 they still love it. The older one has got his kids into it. It reminds me of growing up in Yorkshire, the fields near our house were known as fairy glen. Inocent times in the 60's. Steam trains and picnics. Go to them now and watch the jams on the M 62. Progress who needs it??? KEEP DREAMING EVERYONE XX
Does anyone know what the song is that plays near the start when Lily is looking for Jack and then when he blindfolds her and takes her to the unicorns?
The American cut is such a travesty compared to the International (and now Director's Cut) version! The only thing that makes up for the US version is the awesome Tangerine Dream score. Such an awesome movie!
This movie make you wish there were such things as unicorns and fairies. I never get tired of sitting down and watching this film. I hope my son grows up to appreciate movies and music like this. When I was little this movie made me dream and most kids today don't do enough of that...

Plus if your dad's friend really wrote the script he left out what happens to Blix and the other goblins and pox so there should be more to tell.
I'm going home tomorrow and I will ask him if I get the chance. I think the biggest differance is that unlike Twilight, Legend was written to just be a movie, it wasn't based on a book. So there was never any continuation of the story. Another writer from my home town, his books are being made into movies as well because they have a huge following of book readers. His name is Chris Paolini and he wrote "Eragon". I have never met Chris but he started out selling them at the local grocery store.
They should remake this movie or at least make a sequel, Ridley Scott forgot to kill off or at least show us what happen to the Goblins Blix just disappeared after turning in the last surviving unicorn to Darkness then, what happened to him? this movie left too many unanswered questions so they should remake it or sequel it to make it better plus these days any good vs evil movie would do the audience well.
Best movie of all time. This song gives me chills and takes me back to the day when I watched this movie 1,000 times and believed that I could find unicorns in my back yard if I looked hard enough!
This stirs so many emotions for me, as a kid with my bro and old mother. We all love and remember the times that movies were great, music was fine and fashion was....different. For all that remember this give me a thumbs up, lol.
i love this movie, i just watched the directors cut and the music is different, although a lot of scenes are cut the theatre versions music suits the movie better
The US theatrical Version includes the Tangerine dream soundtrack. But did you also know that it was the us version edited slightly that BBC 1 used as there first Nicam broadcast movie back in the day so thats what prompted me to import the american version
I purchased the music cd by T.D way before i had accually seen the movie. I am a massive fan of brian ferry and at the time the track was only avalable on the movie soundtrack. I then hired the movie .Imagine my surprise the soundtrack was by somebody complety different. then the BBC aired the u.s version and iwas hooked.
If you ask me Riddley Scott should remake the movie. I think he can get away with making a new cause first off he didn't kill off the goblins: Pox, Blix, and Blunder they just disappeared except for Blunder. I would love to watch? this movies sequel with more battles and more special affect with CG or something for more magic. Spread the word so that Riddley can think of the Idea. Although its obvious that the original cast won't be possible.

Does anyone know where I can find this song? JUST this song. The OST is expensive, but I don't mind paying a little for a song that makes me remember my childhood...
My only advice would be to try limewire & download it off there......if u use limewire that is. I used to download all sorts of random theme songs from it.
Yes the soundtrack is great, unfortunately this score is mixed with another song and you do not get to hear the beauty like you hear it when it is alone.
I bought the dvd a few months ago but sadly it didn't have the tangerine dream score.there were scenes missing & it didn't even have these opening credits.I live in wales & im wondering if they sell the original version over here, as after watching this i cant enjoy it the same way.
unfortunatly the tangerine dream sound track version was only for the american market so the dvd was only realesed on that format. British dvd players wont play it .You have to have a player that reads both. A dual reader or something
there's a 20th anniversary edition of the soundtrack that was released with all the extended versions of the music as well as unreleased tracks including this "prologue". It's well worth it, i bought mine from ebay. try amazon.
Does anyone know why there are 2 versions of the film with 2 different scores?
After watching it when i was younger & loving the tangerine dream soundtrack i saw it on tv a few years ago with a new soundtrack which just spoioled the eerie atmosphere of the original?!
The Tangerine Dream version is not the original. The movie released in Europe, months before USA, with Jerry Goldsmith's score. Ridley Scott always disagreed with the recut and all editing's changes Universal made. US producers feared US audience just can't understand the movie the way it was so they add this written opening, change the music because "TD was more bankable", add a green flash on the lily's dance scene...etc.
Though, since 1985, LEGEND is more popular in Europe than in the USA.
I have both Version of the movie on collection DVD. Ridley Scott now says that he like both scores for different reasons. But still disagrees with the missing scenes.
May be Scott doesn't dislike TD's score from Universal's cut (For some reasons I'd like to know), he chose Goldsmith's score for the "Ultimate Director's Cut" though...
Reverse for me : I just can't enjoy LEGEND without Goldsmith's score. I feel TD's music too synthetic for Fantasy.
I can understand you prefer TD's score though since I guess it was your first watch of the movie and you grew loving the movie that way.
One point is for sure, you all are lucky guys since Universal released all versions of the movie in USA. FOX Studios are the copyright's owner here in France and The Ultimate Director's Cut box sadly still didn't release in Zone 2 so far...
If you Buy the Ultimate Edition you get both versions of the movie. The Extended version (original) Has the Goldsmith score. The Shorter Version has Tangerine Dream score
When are they going to start making GOOD fanatsy movies like this again. Once not over loaded with sponser or media hype. Nowa days seems like we are in a fanatsy rute where is over done with what big corp. want to sell or promote toy lines.
Oh man, such memories with this movie, I still have my VHS, boy, I need to buy the DVD before it gets warped too much. This is an amazing score that honestly began my fascination with buying score albums over the soundtracks.
i know kitaro..he is very good but he did not do this. Tangerine Dream can take credit for this masterpiece. If you like this check out "Silk Road" by Kitaro....simply a materpiece that goes beyond this song.
This song is so magical, i could listen to it over and over and i would never get tired of hearing this. You say it's not on the album?? thats too bad, it should be... by the way is it a flute playing this song????Ridley Scott did very well with the movie.
I think its a pan flute. This song is on the song "Loved by the Sun", which is on the album, but this segment is only on the last 20 seconds or so, just before the song ends, so it kind of leaves you hanging. Why they didnt put the entire song I just dont know, and will never understand.
I agree; in the complete form we briefly hear at the end of Loved By The Sun, it's the best track in the movie. I wish they'd release it as a full track in its own right.
I love this music it rules like no tomorrow !!!

Best movie of all time. This song gives me chills and takes me back to the day when I watched this movie 1,000 times and believed that I could find unicorns in my back yard if I looked hard enough!

Should never give up on it. As long as you keep those beliefs you can stay young at heart

BEUTIFULDISASTER89 2 years ago 2
its a great movies. and your right
The US theatrical Version includes the Tangerine dream soundtrack. But did you also know that it was the us version edited slightly that BBC 1 used as there first Nicam broadcast movie back in the day so thats what prompted me to import the american version
Orbstah 2 years ago

I used to download all sorts of random theme songs from it.

even if you bought the soundtrack, THIS track isn't on it!!!!!
I bought it years ago and was gutted!
Maybe it's been re-released, but I haven't seen it.

Yes the soundtrack is great, unfortunately this score is mixed with another song and you do not get to hear the beauty like you hear it when it is alone.

I can't find it on Itunes!!!!

You can find the sound track on amazon although it is expensive.

i have a recording of this on vhs, and the opening was narrated, yet every where else i look and on my dvd its not....was it just narrated for tv?
HybridFaerie 2 years ago
I bought the dvd a few months ago but sadly it didn't have the tangerine dream score.there were scenes missing & it didn't even have these opening credits.I live in wales & im wondering if they sell the original version over here, as after watching this i cant enjoy it the same way.
bentherock10 3 years ago
unfortunatly the tangerine dream sound track version was only for the american market so the dvd was only realesed on that format. British dvd players wont play it .You have to have a player that reads both. A dual reader or something
xwin9 2 years ago
so im guessing i can only get the tangerine dream version if i buy imported on line then?
stdavid10 2 years ago
you can also buy the 20th golden ed with both movies but not sure if imported ur not .Expect it to be mega bucks.

i wish they released this track...seems like a variation of Loved By The Sun..minus the vocals...

I think he might not acknowledge this movie for the very reason that he is a Scientologist and this movie has biblical undertones.

Once long ago before there was such
a thing as time the world was shrouded
in darkness Then came the splendor of light,
bringing life and love into the Universe
and the Lord of Darkness retreated deep
into the shadows of the earth, plotting
his return to power, by banishing light
forever
crice221 3 years ago
But precious light is protected,
harbored in the souls of Unicorns, the
most mystical of all creatures Unicorns are safe from the Lord of
Darkness, they can only be found by
the purest of mortals. Such a mortal
is Jack, who lives in Solitude with the
animals of the forest A beuitful girls named Lily loves Jack
with all her heart. In there innocence, they
believe only goodness exists in the world
crice221 3 years ago
Together they will learn there can be
no good without evil, No love without
hate, No heaven without hell, No light
without darkness The harmony of the Universe
depends upon an eternal balance. Out
of the struggle to maintain that balance,
comes the birth of Legends.

does anyone know how i can find the extended version of unicorn theme its like 7 minutes long?
butterfly240208 3 years ago
there's a 20th anniversary edition of the soundtrack that was released with all the extended versions of the music as well as unreleased tracks including this "prologue". It's well worth it, i bought mine from ebay. try amazon.
somethinglacking1 3 years ago
Does anyone know why there are 2 versions of the film with 2 different scores?
After watching it when i was younger & loving the tangerine dream soundtrack i saw it on tv a few years ago with a new soundtrack which just spoioled the eerie atmosphere of the original?!
bentherock10 3 years ago
The Tangerine Dream version is not the original. The movie released in Europe, months before USA, with Jerry Goldsmith's score. Ridley Scott always disagreed with the recut and all editing's changes Universal made. US producers feared US audience just can't understand the movie the way it was so they add this written opening, change the music because "TD was more bankable", add a green flash on the lily's dance scene...etc.
Though, since 1985, LEGEND is more popular in Europe than in the USA.
yanndick 3 years ago
I have both Version of the movie on collection DVD. Ridley Scott now says that he like both scores for different reasons. But still disagrees with the missing scenes.
Scaash 3 years ago
May be Scott doesn't dislike TD's score from Universal's cut (For some reasons I'd like to know), he chose Goldsmith's score for the "Ultimate Director's Cut" though...
yanndick 3 years ago
If i was to buy the dvd, would i be getting the td or the goldsmith score?
I dont think i would enjoy it as much with the goldsmith score!!
bentherock10 3 years ago
Reverse for me : I just can't enjoy LEGEND without Goldsmith's score. I feel TD's music too synthetic for Fantasy.
I can understand you prefer TD's score though since I guess it was your first watch of the movie and you grew loving the movie that way.
One point is for sure, you all are lucky guys since Universal released all versions of the movie in USA. FOX Studios are the copyright's owner here in France and The Ultimate Director's Cut box sadly still didn't release in Zone 2 so far...
yanndick 3 years ago
If you Buy the Ultimate Edition you get both versions of the movie. The Extended version (original) Has the Goldsmith score. The Shorter Version has Tangerine Dream score

When are they going to start making GOOD fanatsy movies like this again. Once not over loaded with sponser or media hype. Nowa days seems like we are in a fanatsy rute where is over done with what big corp. want to sell or promote toy lines.
Scaash 3 years ago 2
Fantasy movies today are made with CGI and all that crap. This wasn't. And that's why it has a beautiful atmosphere and scenery.

Oh man, such memories with this movie, I still have my VHS, boy, I need to buy the DVD before it gets warped too much. This is an amazing score that honestly began my fascination with buying score albums over the soundtracks.

This song is so magical, i could listen to it over and over and i would never get tired of hearing this. You say it's not on the album?? thats too bad, it should be... by the way is it a flute playing this song????Ridley Scott did very well with the movie.
dragonpupp14 3 years ago
I think its a pan flute. This song is on the song "Loved by the Sun", which is on the album, but this segment is only on the last 20 seconds or so, just before the song ends, so it kind of leaves you hanging. Why they didnt put the entire song I just dont know, and will never understand.
0101NocTurne0110 3 years ago
quite simply because it did not fit both in tone and timing
Euadam 3 years ago
But it did fit perfectly in that song. Had they extended the song with this entire segment it would have literally 'completed' the song.
0101NocTurne0110 3 years ago
I agree; in the complete form we briefly hear at the end of Loved By The Sun, it's the best track in the movie. I wish they'd release it as a full track in its own right.
