Did you undo the tie downs? Did you remove the wheel chocks? Did you check the controls? Did you check the levels in the fuel tanks? Did you check to make sure it was the right kind of fuel? Did you check to make sure you had no water in the fuel? Did you check engine oil? Did you make sure no condensation has formed in the fuel line to the carbs? Did you shout "clear" before starting?
That's the fun part of flying a real airplane...not these simulators.
You know, you don't start the engine in full rich, you wait for the engine to run, then quickly put the mixture in, let alone there were a hell of a lot more problems.
parking breaks set. avionics off. Beacon on. all instruments radios off. throttle 1 inch. magnetos then start. during start move mixture foward. this comment is meant to be purely informative as i saw you had the start procedure wrong.
Yeah, 172R/SP models are fuel injected. Once the prop begins to spin without the starter motor cranking it, that is when you introduce the mixture. If it is hot or cold, the engine should not be cranking with mixture rich. With that you also forgot to check oil temps rising, oil pressure in the green within 30 seconds, ammeter for a positive charge, suction between 4.8 and 5.2 and flaps retracted after the start, and then avionics on. FS is fun, but, unrealistic in certain areas.
Exactly, if the engine is fuel injected then the start procedure involves introducing the mixture while it's turning. If you have a carburrated engine (172-non SP) then you should go full rich before start.
actuly you dont put the mixture in before you start it! you turn the key and when the prop gegins to rotate then you put the mixture in. I know because i fly a 2005 Cessna 172 Skyhawk SP with G1000 in real life.

you would have been screamed at for doing that in real life and you plane woln't start stupid fsx you fail
youngestpilotinGa 1 year ago
@youngestpilotinGa as much as i agree with you, this isn't FSX. This is far older. FSX would penalise you more for this unless on easy difficulty.
But i agree in real life this was pretty much entirely wrong

the 152 im training in you put the mixture full rich before key start
pianotyler 3 years ago
Beacuse the 152 is not EFI. Unlike the 172SP, when you add mixture as the engine is cranking.

all of you suck...I flew a c-172 (N737AY)and id put that bitch at full rich before I even turned the key and it started just fine.

Correct. even better to wait when the engine is trying to start.
ariasd 4 years ago 2
Depends if it is fuel injected or not.
