  • I love the melodies that Brahms come up with. They actually can be heard in many modern contemporary pieces. Thanks for posting.

  • OMG..!! it mesmerizing me...!!

  • holly shit! now thats a performance! 10/10.

  • Wow, normally I'm not big fan of Brahms but this is a very vocal piece of music and I like that. It seems like Brahms and this violinist have found a way to make the violin speak. It's kind of hard to find music/ musicians that can pull that off.

  • I could comment about whose fans are the people who disliked this but I don't want to ruin this beautiful piece of art with unworthy rats.

  • Personally, I never concern myself with public opinion regarding any cultural and/or artistic

    endeavor or creation.

It's not about consensus...it's sensibility that is the quintessential issue.

  • @Easleytee Hmm, yes, quite. Of course. Pardon me whilst I adjust my monocle.

  • Ahhhhhhhhh

  • who are the 35 people who dislike this video???

  • What is the name of that lead clarinet in the beginning?

  • @therandomexample looks like an oboe.

  • @therandomexample it's an oboe.

  • A masterpiece among masterpieces.

  • gidoN kremer

  • beautiful backdrop - sweeping ceiling!

  • the violinist is EL PUTO AMO. Que gidom ni hostias! XD

  • @javimateos Jajaajjaaja

  • Vienna has GOT to replace their shitty oboes. The company in Vienna that makes that style of oboes has actually gone out of business. Now Yamaha is one of the only few makers left. My hope is for Yamaha to stop producing them, so the ignorant, conservative Viennese oboists will switch to the French style like the rest of the world.

  • @zhangpianist

Sorry, but you´re not up to date! First of all, this video is from the early 80s and is not representative for the current Viennese Oboesound, you could find thousands of historic recordings with french oboes you wouldn´t be happy with. Now there is a very gifted young instrument maker in vienna who is finally crafting really good oboes. One by one every professional oboist in Vienna is dumping his Yamaha switching to them.

  • @TheArnoSchmidt

Guntram Wolf makes Viennese oboes, as well.

  • In trance

  • the camera work should also be praised.

  • @Kurasso

what are you trying to say here?

  • @blkbeltmage It's the video at suggestions of Brahms' Violin Concerto.

  • Amo la musica de brams y a G. kremer

  • He is a great violinist as far as technique is concerned, but I'm not a fan of his musical ideas here. In my opinion, a lot of the things he does interfere with the simple beauty of Brahms' masterpiece (impulsive vibrato on certain notes but not others, "punchy" lines in places that I think should be more lyrical, etc.).

  • @csnplt I agree. I think his vibrato needs to lighten up a little. Its to thick.

  • who's the violinist? :D he's amazing!

  • @IVIusic It's Gidon Kremer.

  • @IVIusic napoleon dynamite

  • @imgordonfreeman "napoleon dynamite"

    That's good.

  • @IVIusic THE VIOLINIST IS GIDOM KREMER

  • This is featured in my orchestra concert(:

  • @trufiend138 you obviously have limited knowledge in musical history than.

  • Magneto

  • @MrCarterSteel

    Cerebro

  • Perfect! they are in sync. love classical music today and forever!

  • this is pure love by the way...

  • i could not believe the comment of that incompetent fool, dawg0000

  • This is essentially an oboe concerto; just sayin' :D Just the way I like it!

  • This music is too nice to be spoiled by juvenile comments. So, SHUT UP!

  • This music is too nice to be spoiled by juvenile comments. So, shut up!

  • Flatass privileged straight white christian males choose other flatass privileged straight white christian males along with a handful of extremely talented Asians so the flatasses can say they have "persons of Color" in the orchestra (in a divide and conquer strategy). This is fake diversity. Black folk are vastly underrepresented in euro classical orchestras and need to play 100x better to be picked. It's typical ameriKKKan racism all over again.

  • Comment removed

  • @dawg00000 First round orchestra auditions are now all conducted with a screen in front of the players. It is all done anonymously. Those evaluating potential orchestral members have no idea what the names of the players are let alone their race, religion or creed.

There are no black people in the vast majority of these orchestras simply based on the fact that there aren't any black people talented enough to play at that level. Cut with the racist b.s. You are extremely naive and ignorant.

  • @monkeydogcow, ALL know that people of African descent play with more soul than others. The screen is a literal and figurative wall 2 separate Africans from such jobs despite their obvious superiority. It's a facade to avoid hiring them cuz one can claim exclusion based on a (phony) blind test. Flatass straight white christian male judges know the rich and uniquely diverse sound produced by those with Africa in their genes but choose 2 ignore it despite recognizing its sublime black beauty.

  • @dawg00000 put the pipe down, dickhead. I know plenty of people with African heritage who can't even play a kazoo, stop spouting such populist guff. You have a very narrow view of the world and a true disrespect both for the history and culture of European high art and that of Africa, which in your own warped mind you seem to think you somehow represent. There is something deeply soulful in this performance as their is to much music that has a rich history, from every corner of the world.

  • @monkeydogcow "there aren't any black people talented enough to play at that level" I CANT BELIEVE YOU ACTUALLY WROTE THAT...christ I would hate to work with u hiding such deep seeded animosity toward blacks (and prob other races and religions)

  • @trufiend138, So true. Soon the flatass privileged marginalizing straight white christian males with all the power will be back with their lynchings.

  • @dawg00000 Dude, just be quiet and enjoy this beautiful music...

  • @dawg00000 Also, stop with these nonsensical generalizations. Whether intended to be humorous or not, they're absurd, ignorant, and annoying. Don't spoil this sublime concerto with your childish nonsense. Do this elsewhere please.

  • @dawg00000 I hardly think the absence of black people in a particular orchestra is remotely the equivalent of unopposed racist lynch mobs. Besides, I've seen many black people in orchestras. Your argument is under a false premise, and sounds more racist than what you're incorrectly asserting.

I must also raise a point against your argument that hip hop has more depth than European classical music. You can't compare the two: Both are entirely subjective. Stop being so utterly obtuse over this.

  • @dawg00000 ha ha ha.. yep thats the first thing that popped in to my mind when listening to this. the KKK.

You are a wonder of nature.. but in a totally different way to this piece

  • @dawg00000 Just gotta say it you're hilarious! Totally out of line and without any sort of musical knowledge but still hilarious. Racism like this is always worth a good laugh.

  • @cutthenooses ALL music has depth and ALL music needs talent to become an artist. I listen to both and they have their advantages.

  • It touches our soul

  • according to dawg00000 brahms' music is immature and shallow

  • @cutthenooses, Not malum in se, but in comparison to the rich diversity and profound emotional depth of hip-hop.

  • @dawg00000 hip hop has no depth, you don't need much talent to be a hip hop artist. i can't imagen 50cent or whatever the fuck the others names are, being capable of creating anything that is worth comparing to the greatest composers.

your point = dumbest thing i have ever read.

  • @cutthenooses, Thank you for your kind words. You're welcome.

euro classical and especially the music of Brahms has all the profundity of one of Mohammad's (SAAW) lengthy farts ripped into Allah's face.

  • @cutthenooses you really haven't listened to much variety of musical styles have you

but i have noticed a trend in many hip hop artists subjects are usually about how their bitch didnt do want they wanted, how they fucked a bitch, or how they slapped a bitch

  • @cutthenooses what does hip hop have to do w/ antiquated stringed music?

  • @trufiend138 i hope this isn't a serious question..

  • @cutthenooses yeah it is...the two aren't even related...rappers and concert pianists dont have the same agent, dont hang in same places

  • jjjj

  • Did Brahms wrote only one violin concert?

  • Why are there so many fools in this world? It vexes me.

  • I hope this gets played at dawg00000's funeral.

  • @cullyvan nah he'll probably request 'bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks' to be played at his funeral

  • @cullyvan yeah and have the same oboeist play too

  • @cullyvan, Thank you for your kind comment. You're welcome.

"Gangsta's Paradise" will be played. Such a piece has some depth, some poignancy, some SOUL as opposed to the ephemeral shallowness and immaturity of Brahms' fiddle piece.

  • @StrandofMusic:

    Good stuff.

    Bible next.

  • *sigh* its little kids like afrodude103 and dawg00000 you that ruin the comment section of classical music.

    *extreme vibrato*

    Someone cuttin onions???

  • @odisap sorry. i just rly hate that guy. but whatevr.

  • @afrodude103, I love you.

  • sorry for all the comments that have nothing to do with this vid. I'm sorry for being just as that troll I'm arguing with. :)

  • sorry for all the comments that have nothing to do with this vid. I'm sorry for being just as that troll I'm arguing with. :)

  • Btw I think this is one of the best renditions of this piece I have ever heard! :)

  • Brahms was a master.

  • 4:35 the harmony tht follows .. could die for tht... ahhh

  • freakin BEAST!!!

  • Brahms really did know God

  • the first movement is in D the second in F the third in D.....so your both right.....i guess.....

  • We cannot escape history. euro classical is starter music, while hip-hop is for refined tastes. The music of Communities of Color is so indubitably brilliant that it already has eclipsed euro classical in a matter of a few decades. Witness the orchestras, ballet companies, opera houses closing. They are whimpering in the throes of near death. There is no resurrection for them. The fat lady has sung.

  • @dawg00000

I would wager that Wynton Marsalis would disagree with you.

Jazz, along with Indian classical music, is the epitome of the art of improvization, while classical music is the epitome of composition. Hip hop is a unique style that, unfortunately has been bastardized by the industry. Great MC's like Pharoah Monch, Sir Menelik, etc. have been largely overlooked and those who were influenced by them but were willing to sell out have taken the gains.

  • @intervalkid, Marsalis is a tool.

  • @dawg00000

Obviously your here just to be an ass and dog out brilliance.

  • @intervalkid, I'm here to afflict the comfortable (privileged straight white christain males) and and comfort the afflicted (Communities of Color).

  • @dawg00000

Hypocrite. I am a straight "white" Christian male and I live in the back of a truck and am constantly afflicted by such as you. Hypocritical psuedo-sexual dipshits who say they are afflicted because the media says so and people allow them to get away with it, you however are a racist to boot. You have never been afflicted and apparently don't know what the word means. Not getting the car you want isn't. The afflictions you assume to afflict will come down upon you someday.

  • @intervalkid, if you live in the back of a truck, you are 1 step closer to being redeemed since it sounds like you keep it real.

    Be well.

  • @dawg00000 dawg, no offense, but I hear your CRAP all over MY favorite pieces of classical music, and i don't appreciate it. I don't think you should hate the music or the people listening to it. So please leave us all alone and go preach to people who care about what you are saying ( apparently, according to you, none of us).

  • @afrodude103, I though you had freedom of speech in ameriKKKa.

You and everyone else here needs to realize that the music of brahms has all the depth, subtlety and profundity of one of Muhammad's (SAAW) enormous farts in Allah's face.

  • @dawg00000 But why do you care whether or not we like this music? It is not really your business. And in no way does it indicate that we are bad or racist people. Honestly, I would just LOVE to hear why you think it does. Rly.

And I'm pretty sure you just said I was part of the KKK (which I most DEFINITELY am NOT!), and you just insulted all of the Muslims watching this beautiful video. Doesn't that just make YOU the indecent, intolerant, racist towards Muslims? Am I the hater or is it just YOU?

  • @afrodude103, It iz indeed my business 2 convince people that hip-hop iz superior since buying hip-hop means more money 4 African artists, money ripped off from their ancestors. Listening 2 euro classical supports white folk who already have all the power.

    I wrote ameriKKKa, not afroKKKdude-dude.

If u think I insulted da Prophet, read tha meaning of SAAW which I wrote. R u saying Muhammad didn't fart nor Muslims fart in the face of Allah when they bow down & stick up their buttocks?

  • @dawg00000 1. So you're preaching about making blacks superior because they are making money with hip hop. And you said that Europeans made all the money in the past. Well, yes they were dominant back then. But then this thing, called TIME, happened and slavery ended and MLK got shot and the majority of us decided to end racism. Yes there are some people out there who still are racist. But you insulting MY music and putting down MY friends who are white (gasp!!) just makes you elitist and racis

  • @afrodude103@afrodude103@afrodude103, You must have looked up SAAW after my post; otherwise u would not have asked me about Muhammad laying farts. The farting was meant 2 b a metaphor, not a joke. Farting is a human function. Why would Muhammad be an exception? Indeed, when he bent down 2 pray his anal sphincter would have been more susceptible 2 farting as his buttock cheeks would widen. This phenomenon iz part of the human condition. You seem bent on pretending that it does not exist.

  • @dawg00000 bye. i will now appreciate this music and ignore u.

  • @afrodude103, Please ignore this comment: the oboeist at the beginning of this movement plays this twaddle in the most pretentious manner possible with his head wavering like a weather vane. What a poseur.

  • @dawg00000 And the fact that you put KKK in the name in America just shows your disrespect to our wonderful country that, though it may have had a dark beginning, has progressed into one of the greatest countries in the world. Without America, chances are you would already be stoned to death for (1) being black or (2) "abusing your freedom of speech." Luckily, you are able to live the life you love and say what you want. So show some respect.

  • @dawg00000 And also, I know what SAAW means. Just because you said that does not mean you are not insulting all the Muslims listening. It may be a joke to you, but an insult to others. Also, the fact that you joke about other religions because you may not agree with them must mean that you are immature. Finally, your stupid books have obviously brainwashed you OR you are reading them wrong and pulling ideas out your butt that have nothing to do with what they preach. Ur an extremist troll.

  • It's in F major

  • @dawg00000 if you don't like it , don't listen to it....nutter

  • @ulyssesjj, People need to speak out about injustice, including the valorization of this piece.

  • @dawg00000

Did the Nazi's Valorize this piece?

  • @dawg00000 classical music will never die, composers of the romantic, classical and baroque era are still remembered, and always will, hip hop artists come and go as often as snot leaves your head. even wankers like you still recognize the greatest composers that lived. and take in the fact that, music like this was the foundation of your shit known has hip hop that you cherish so much.

  • dawg00000, all hip-hop-shit that is being made these days are all about "bein' in da club" and having alot of women. but i can tell you this: this music is better! it's not an opinion but a fact. all the 50cent, tupac shit (i don't even want to think about calling it music!)... it doesn't even mean anything! oh wait, they tell you they are cool, that's it! you may try to tell me what story there is in any of these songs.

    thanks for listening

and may this music bloom in our ears for ever!

  • to worbonom:

so basically what youre saying is that Brahms was such a numnut he didnt know FMajor from D Major...

  • @nino0057 it's actually in f major.

  • @worbonom hmm Yea you're prolly right I heard in C like around 0:45 thought it was the key didn't know if the user made a mistake. But like someone already mentioned the other movements are in D so

  • This music fills me with joy.

  • I'm no expert when it comes to Brahms but this is in C major.

  • @nino0057 obviously, no expert I mean..

  • @ulyssesjj Nope.

  • It is an "vienniese oboe" which is played in only about 5 orchestras in the world (all of them in vienna and surroundings) and the oboist is my teacher.

  • @mroboe921 you are so lucky to study with such a gifted musician! Does he use this oboe in lessons? I've always wondered of oboists of these orchestras switched permanently to the vienniese oboes or just for the ensemble work, since it is likely they grew up playing a more standard conservatory oboe, right?

  • @joethemusician we only use this oboe in lessons! We can't even play the conservatory oboe! But I would actually declare our type of oboe, the viennese oboe as "conservatory oboe" because it is directly descended from the baroque oboe. Yes I'm really lucky. The only bad thing is, that he gets old already and he will go in pension soon, so he gets a bit lazy. Are you an oboist too?

  • @mroboe921 Really? Wow! So you only own the Viennese oboe? I am a classical saxophonist, but I also play oboe very seriously as my second instrument. Actually, I play clarinet in a professional orchestra also, but I only have a bachelor degree in saxophone and masters in both saxophone and oboe. Where do you study? I was thinking to study at the Wein Konservatorium!

  • @mroboe921 Woah, lucky you! I study oboe in Toulouse and I'm not saying my teacher is bad, but WOW!

  • the oboist is my teacher and it's an "vienniese oboe" which is played in only about 5 orchestras of vienna.

  • Oh God... another BRAHMMY!

  • Yea I love how well the oboist blows myself.

  • Un placer escuchar esta maravilla!!!

  • Beautifull! !

  • Amazing, so full of life and color. Classical is truly great music to both listen to and play!

  • Gidon is one of the best, whenever the best violonist for soft and warm interpretations. I love him. Great guy.

  • Nice piece.

  • Does anyone know who the oboist is? Incredibly beautiful playing.

  • Music from heaven! Lord send us new music from your throne room!

  • Absolutely gorgeous. I love Bernstein's interpretations, but why are there always intonation issues when he's on the podium? I mean this is the Vienna Phil! Maybe it's just bad luck... And Kremer, well hes just the best there is

  • Where is the third movement?

  • thanks DianeROU

  • The guy on the oboe is my teacher actually

  • @BigP0pe serious?

  • Man the harmonic of the flute and oboe blend perfectly!!!

That is both masterful composition and performance! Perfect intonation!

  • This made me cry at the beauty of it shortly after the violinist came in. I guess he's pretty good!

  • @intervalkid it made me cry when the oboe started ;)

  • Kremer is one of the best.

  • The oboeist can charm a thousan snakes. Superb.....

  • Sound coming from the center of the universe, the seat of God.

  • Kremer knew God too^^

  • buenaza

  • binita musica excelente video....

  • Very beautiful. Thank you

  • Wow, that music has sent shivers through my whole body.

  • نعم لقد رأيت من بينهم العازف محمد ابو الليل الشهير بــ ( وساخة ) الفيومى .. غفر الله له و لعازفى الايقاع محمد عبد السلام و نبيل حسان .

  • wtf

  • cant live without these kinds of concerts !

  • The English horn in Christian Ferras's version sounded exceptionally good. The orchestra was BPO under Karajan.

  • he plays this beutifuly, but his mouth scares me a little, but besides that its an an amazing interpritaion

  • @AlucardAG that's the passion man !!!! :D

  • lern to spel

  • coming from some one who cant spell "learn" and "spell"

i spelled beautiful and interpretation incorrectly. dont tell me how to spell because i know how ass.

  • @AlucardAG i believe that person was just mimicing you...

  • Kremer´s interprets this wonderful concert in a marvelous way, geting the most from every sound. Though different, i like very much also Anne Sophie Mutter´s tecture.

  • I'm seeing the national symphony play this tonight! sooo excited

  • Great, but in my opinion, still nothing has yet beaten Nigel Kennedy's interpretation of this piece.

  • Amazing musicianship

  • wow. loved the emotion put into that!

  • superb.

this music is majestic up to spiritual proportions.

one of my all time fav videos on youtube....

  • l'âme de J.Brahms si tourmentée est là...sous l'archet de ce violoniste généreux et de grand talent. Comment ne pas aimer Brahms?

  • I'd hate to have him called here and have him be left behind..

  • the string sounds so sweet and he definitely cached my breath, seems kremer put his breath into the music

  • The soloist, Gidon Kremer is wonderful, I think. I have never heard him play. While he clearly doesn't have Hilary Hahn's looks, he is expressive and eloquent on the violin. I didn't catch the "out of tune" on the first few notes cited here by some comments. In my opinion, it's an extraordinary performance! Bravo!

  • u should see him play the season...its just amazing!

  • Magnifico

  • vraiment tres bon morceau

    merci

  • Bernstein! Now there's a true conductor- too bad he left us in 1989.

Also, we have a fine violinist playing an excellent concerto!

  • Isn't that Karajan? He left us in '89 as well
