At 0:16 you can see that the man's body is angled back and away from his shoes. He is no longer in his shoes. He is being lifted up and away. The trench coat is slit up the back so that it still hangs down while the guy's body is lifted so that it is parralel to the ground. crissy then jumps through an empty space.

looks pretty simple to me. assuming the guy is as tall as he looks, he has to go back into the darkness of the background and he's wearing a long coat. when the camera is not focussed on him his body is hoisted back up, the coat has a flap in the back, chris dives through the coat and then the body is lowered again before the guy even moves.
