This episode is a lot like Night of Desirable Objects in that it helps set up the eventual fallout between Walter and Peter (once Peter finds out about his kidnapping) by building up their relationship's dynamic, though it wasn't as strong as in NoDO. THAT episode helped bond them/drew a parallel; THIS episode showed a burgeoning complexity with Walter "disobeying" Peter.
When plot relevance is in doubt, look to the pulverized dead horse that is the alter-Peter plot.
I just re-watched "Bad Dreams" and Walter says that "perception is the key to transformation" therefore couldn't this episode be a link to that thought? Maybe that thought relates back to Olivia and her ability....how she sees herself will eventually allow her true transformation, since "Bad Dreams" dealt with Olivia and the effects of cortexiphan.
haha whats with operation on fringe lol... great recap. i didnt like the episode ither...it was kinda boring lol... i also didnt really understand it so thanks again
I just hope, that at some point, they relate these military projects to The Pattern, ´cause I don´t see the connection yet. I suppose it will become the subject of upcoming episodes.
@Isandy03 I think think do relate to the pattern. Through Walter. Nearly always, these seemingly unimportant episodes link back to the work that Walter did before he was admitted to St Claire's. And in the episode 'Fracture', the Colonel says that what ever is in the observers suitcases, will destroy us all and it just so happens that there are pictures of Walter in there. There is a whole lot we don't know about Walter's past and in the coming episodes, we are going to learn a whole lot more.
@xxChinasaurxx: Seeing things from that point of view, I must agree with you. Can´t wait to see how they will play that out in the following episodes. Thanks for the enlightening though.
I like that. I hope to finally be able to see what all these episodes have to do with each other. There is that common theme of Walter's work in the past. The only thing missing so far is the connection between that and something more interesting like a plot line or over-arching theme.
I wonder if "The Elephant Case" has anything to do with the elephant man- Joseph Merrick. The people in this episodes look like they have deformities similar to his.
Oh no. That's episode 21 of season 1. It was unaired until last week. This is the episode following 10. Charlie didn't magically come back alive then die again.
when they show the six fingered hand at the end of the title sequence it look like there was an upside down pentagram on the palm. wounder if it means anything other than the occult.
This episode was inspired by the book called the Chrysalids... To me thats a huge reference... In the middle they have a war between 3 factions... Norms (humans), Mutants (Note: they live in a land called the FRINGES) and Sealand people (telepaths).... Seems familar?
@lsixecho108 I just knew it.... it seemed to have so much references... I.E telepaths are supossedly invisible deviations (mutants) so the humans freak out and try to find out everysingle one of them... (police officer) ... the telepaths don't like it so they run towards the mutants for help... the mutants in this scenario seem to be Fringe Team...

I think this was the first time Olivia didn't kill someone with a perfect head shot right in between the eyes.

Yeah. I guess she knew she didn't have to since it's not one of those mercury soldiers.

The part where Olivia's telling Peter 'the first time's always rough' killing someone - I've got a feeling that that wasn't Peter's first time.
This episode reminded me of the X Files episode Arcadia, just a little.
For such a small community, you'd think they'd realize the Observer was there.

What? What is this? I've watched E11, but it's about the girl who get a psycho connection with a russian guy.

Drivel.
The only overt reference in the show was 'Project Elephant' -- a reference to The Elephant Man.
