  • girl: debris avoided.

captain: great work...now, how do we stop it from hitting earth?

    girl: ...?

  • @akesling I suppose you've never heard of deterrence through strength. Much like in the animal kingdom, the stronger we are, and the stronger we appear, the less grief we'll get from other powers who would seek to do harm to the US, our citizens, and our interests. It doesn't take 'round the clock bombing of random parts of the world, but it does take the ability to project such power if a conflict should arise.

  • wtf is the AIRforce doing working in outer space where there's no AIR ??

  • @SlowDownSmutty That isn't the point. Just because we've recently expanded our reach into space doesn't mean the Air Force needs to change it's name, and NASA is not a branch of the military, if that's what you're thinking.

  • Kids, this is a real threat, right now. The environmental effects of a satellite detonation could realistically render an entire ORBIT unusable as the cloud of orbital debris begins to drift into the path of other satellites. We are beginning to see this with debris cloud from China's "test."

Want to ensure that space doesn't become an unusable warzone? Join the Air Force or find a job at the State Department. But don't act like this ad exaggerates the threat. If anything, it understates.

  • Do they even have a way of stopping someone from destroying our satellites in space?

  • satellites have no defense. thats why we have hundreds of them.

  • @Notorious1441 Top secret weapons,like the X-37B,etc...

  • It don't get no better than this. Peons are terrified of losing their cell phone and cable! YES! WE MUST KILL others to maintain our cell phone connections!!!

  • @akesling Taking down military and communication satellites prior to invading a country is a great tactic.. The military and civilian populace would have to resort to different means of communication.. Which is bad.

  • @akesling Yes lets just do nothing an let N Korea shoot down a a military satellite will cause all of their logistics to go flat and troops go hungry and run dry of ammo (we seen this during 9/11 when the navy side of the pentagon was hit) or shoot down banking sat. and cause an economic depressing, or hit a comm sat. during Katrina or the 2011 twisters and block rescuers transmissions, and the scary thing is they can do it with a EMP nuke or a simple laser transmission shutting it down Ahole

  • Hey assholes, China already demonstrated their capabilities to destroy our satellites when they tested an antisatellite weapon last year which obliterated an aging Chinese weather satellite. The threat is very real.

  • would you like a high resolution still in 1 small film but high resolution?

  • Am I the only one on here that actually got this. They need new people to deal with a threat like this in the future when warfare like this may be common place. Therefore they recruit and train now, when it isn't such a dire threat to national security, as opposed to then, when all of our satellites are in jeopardy. I'm a freaking idiot liberal and even I understood it!

  • when i first saw this, all i could think was that it was the weirdest commercial i'd ever seen... like, seriously, wtf usaf? try a little harder next time.

  • Me AFJROTC Unit FL20051 HOOORAHH!!

  • Because facts just don't matter anymore...

  • Goebbels would be proud

  • I still think that the USA will be responsible if this does happen. Really I believe they are planning it right now!

  • /watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • ma siete pazzi?

  • Bahahahahahaha, I have no idea why, but when I saw this on TV I laughed so hard.

  • You laughed because it could never, EVER happen. I was redirected here from a Wired article explaining the redundancy in the satellite network.

One missile might cause a hiccup in your GPS ... provided a missile existed that could accurately strike that high. Experts say even a nuke couldn't do much damage to a satellite array.

Sorry USAF ... you missed the mark on this one. I mean, if you're defending my satellites (which you're not) I would expect you to know this.

  • Lojik is right. The USAF is just blowing smoke up your bottoms. A single missile can't cripple our space technology infrastructure, and certainly not our cell phone infrastructure (which doesn't even rely all that much on satellites...unless you're making an overseas call, and maybe not even then). It's nice to know that the USAF thinks we're all idiots.

  • Aren't they supposed to be the best and brightest too? You would think the greatest military industrial complex in history could run a better ad campaign.

  • 'provided a missile existed that could accurately strike that high'

Yes, because China and the US definitely didn't just recently shoot down a satelite.

  • China's sat killer hit a target 540 miles above the surface. Communications satellites are 22,000 miles above the surface. Trust me, they don't have that kind of tech yet and even if they invented it, the satellite arrays are tens of thousands of miles apart.

Gee, you never know, maybe al-qaeda could take out all our satellites! LOL! Read the article:

    blog.wired. com/defense/2008/05/usaf-ridiculous .html

  • And how high was the US sat that we shot down... exactly...

  • "HONOLULU - A US Navy cruiser based in Pearl Harbor fired a missile last night that struck a crippled spy satellite roughly 150 miles above the earth..."

  • @westwoodbball35 There are many ballistic missiles that can destroy satellites actually.

  • @westwoodbball35 You mean the one we did in the 80's? Look up "ASM-135" on Wikipedia.

  • I don't like the idea of spending tax dollars to promote a military/political strategy. It's like advertising to gain support for war and we've all been down that road but not so blatantly as to produce expensive commercials. This is a waste, if it is determined that this is what we are going to do than do it but c'mon, next thing you know the IRS will be running ads.

  • What is this shit! Usa preparing us for the shit they are gonna carry out!

    great!
