The Man you refer to assaulted police and was escaping custody. He was released from the hospital after being tased. He died in a altercation while in Correctional Services custody 30 hours later. The taser is an effective tool for controlling serious threats but I agree officers are mis-using the taser. Law enforcement is going to lose an effective tool because officers are mis-using it.

When citizens are punished for crimes by the hands of police officers this is not acceptable. People must be tried in the court of law verses killed at scenes where supposed crimes occured. Police along with any person has the right to defend themselves against harm or death. These TOOLS that police are equipped with are to protect you, the public and themselves. If police did not have the right to do this, they would not carry the defensive weapons they have, ie: Side Arm. The taser is an effective tool but is made available to law enforcement as a last resort before taking out their side arm.

After working at a Court and interviewing people for bail and having them lie to me half the time, and having them tell me they had no criminal record when they had 50 charges, or had never touched their wife when the wife later told me they beat her daily, I think I know who I will believe more often then not.

They DO get tasered. Its part of Police training, they get tasered to understand the power of the tool and see its an effective non-lethal weapon.

Secondly it looks to me they were pointing for him to get down on the ground rather then stand up against the wall. Thus they probably tasered him for not complying.

Tasers on their own dont kill, it was likely the taser in combination with his heart problem but Police dont generally ask if the person they are about to taser has health problems or ask them to sign wavers.

Given the choice between batons, fists, guns and tasers as ways to incapacitate a person, I know which one is more effective and less likely to leave wounds.
