@salsburysteakjr Heard that version on Bob Dylans theme tune radio hour, thats how I know the song....and the intro is so much better on that version!
Anybody heard the longer version of this? Can't seem to find it through youtube. The opening spoken intro is way longer, among other things. If you've heard it you'd prefer it to this edition.
I love the outro... "One hundred and... twenty-FIVE street! 8th Avenue..." I live on 8th Avenue!!!! NYC represent... Giuliani and Bloomberg fucked it all up, but we're still here.
this is one of Jame Browns deep deep soul hits. I waiting to see if anyone besides me remember James Brown singing this one that talks about Hustle and some like Hustle baby do the double bump. Came out in the 70's maybe after the Big Payback or before. If any body feel me please post it. Go something like this , Hussum baby (you know you can't understand JB sometimes) I hi oh yah Hussmum baby ,Let you back bone slip then you do the nasty hustle and you throw around your funky hips and so forth
Awesome classic that builds up to a soul scorching crescendo. Soul brother no.1 and his perm on fire screams make you feel the desperation of 1970s nyc ghetto life..Great song, great film.
...and the streets no place to be, but there you are...try hard and you die hard, no one really gives a good damn...friends can be cruel sometimes, can be sweet.. what bugs a man, what hurts a man, is when you give him a drink, but he just cant get nuthin' to eat...thats life in the city ya'll
My Dad (RIP) was a Jamaican and while he loved Bob Marley and Big Youth he fell in love with this music and I still have the album. He eventually ended up in NewYork and came to visit us in 1973(UK), straight from Heathrow with the white suit, Black Caesar style hat, this Album and cigar.
To all you true brothers and sisters, the Black Caesar soundtrack was and is the sound of black power at it's strongest and best.I'm not tryin' to say this in a racist way, but it's the truth.
Saw "Black Caesar" a year, and that's when I was introduced to this song. It kicked off the credits beautifully. Great song, thanks for posting! Look after that record! James Brown RIP.

Powerful backing band, meanwhile Brown shouts his soul out. The production is an A++++ .

@salsburysteakjr no shit, the intro is way akward sounding without the rest of the words.

@salsburysteakjr Try the soundtrack compilation 'Funk on Film' man released on Galen Records, that version is 5.25 minutes long and it smokes!

This soundtrack was sampled the hell out by hip hop/rap.

I fell in love with this soundtrack when i saw this movie one late night, man old music sounds so much better with actual instruments
crazedaarson 3 years ago 3
Too true mate!!! Back then, musicians actually PLAYED instruments.
Nowadays, it's all about sampling and looping... How crap.
James Brown rules forever!
