"Spheres" est un super album paru en 1993. Pestilence sont à leur meilleur dans ce style de metal fusionné de jazz avec équipements midi, bien mixé, fort inspiré, imparable, en avance sur leur temps. En deux mots je définis cette oeuvre musicale, Metropolis et Martien (Mars)
This particular Pestilence album is terribly underappreciated. "Spheres" crafted out a sound like no other, and was also totally brilliant in how it sounded. If any of you really like the sound on this album and want more like it, you should check out this Ukrainian metal band called Phantasmagory.
damn, some of the singing reminds me of Mudvayne, (yeah i know youre all gonna jump on me for it but they had some good stuff before they went too nu-metal)
One time I listened to this album while I took a walk on a bitter cold night and everything was covered in ice. It gave me the feeling similar to what I'd expect to get from walking on a different planet, or a post human earth. I've always thought this album was really cheesy, but in a really really good way.
Wow Am I ever sick of retards posting about cynic on every fusion-metal ban video.
How the fuck is this Cynic esque? Cynic is boring as hell, and just because Traced in Air is the only other fusion-metal album you know, does not make it a fucking standard.
@BennyandtheDRUMMER Cynic is not boring as hell, and in many aspects, it is the root of progressive metal that takes advantage of syncopation and other such jazz elements. You're right, Cynic isn't behind every fusion-metal video, because plainly, Cynic isn't fusion. That's a whole 'nother genre. If you think Cynic is boring as hell, I have no idea how you see Spheres as any more "exciting," because Personal Energy/Voices From Within/Spheres is a lot slower and more down-tempo than FOCUS.
How the fuck is Cynic the root of progressive metal? Jesus man, you're out of your tree if you think Cynic is their "own genre". Oh great, you know the other cynic album. You're a diehard, for sure.
It still amazes me how a band can take a break for 15 years, and come back and write an album that sounds exactly the same as the last.
As for your comparison of Focus and this.. I simply don't understand what you mean.
@BennyandtheDRUMMER I must have mispoken... I'm saying Fusion-Metal is a completely different genre from Cynic, because in reality, they're just mainly progressive metal (with a few jazz elements). Cynic is definitely not in a genre on its own. It's just that to me, Death was the root of Death Metal, and when Paul Masvidal and the rest of the Cynic members joined Chuck in Human, everything got A LOT more progressive and complex. True, Focus and Spheres came out at the same time, but they share
@BennyandtheDRUMMER a BUNCH of similarities. Just listen back to the Focus album and you'll definitely hear it. That's why I said this album is "unique on its own terms" in my original post, because Pestilence probably was not influenced that much at all by Cynic (other than having a Cynic bassist for a really minimal amount of time before the recording of Spheres, which is Pestilence's first album using jazz elements). I'm just saying Spheres and Focus share a lot of commonalities, by chance.
Holy freakin' sheeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiit! I've only come across Pestilence's 2009 album Resurrection Macabre - And you can in NO WAY compare the new material to the old.. This is awesome!
This album, for me, represents a reach and grab of un-paralleled heights in extreme music. Metal needs to take the hint; being heavy should always come secondary to being creative. Lyrically, musically, and intellectually, this album is beyond anything that has come out in the last 17 years. "Spheres" is a TRUE step forward for metal.
@SlavicIn3D dude i have heard some good elevator music. i don't get why people give elevator music a bad wrap. most of it is jazzy so if you hate jazz i can understand.
I have such amazing memories from this album over the last 15 years. The CD has been played so many times in so many different players. It's hard to believe that there are no scratches at all on the CD, lol!! ;-P
... yeah but they did because they where sooooo much ahead of the time... it's sad that people don't understand that... funny story - I bought the clawfinger debut instead of this (in the shop I was like... which one pestilence or clawfinger. I listenend to both. But obviously bought the wrong. Lucky me a classmate buyed the clawfingershit the next day from me and I just went to the shop to own this Masterpiece. People and the Press underrate this thing here...
Awesome the incorporation of space age jazz fused with metal is really good art;poor experimental geniuses they never get the recognition they're justly deserving of.
Ha ve a listen to this...Sounds interesting....youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6jAmhCqeq1U
