Doepfer A-100 Modular Synth Acid house noodle

Amazingly nice noodle! Could you list which modules you used in this patch (if you remember)? Just starting on my first a100 three row case. I'm not a modular noob, but this will be my first Doepfer system.

I'm starting out with a filtering setup before I move on to oscillators and other stuff. The 106-6 sounds like a fun start.

Nice! The Bassdrum sounds really great! How du you get such a great sound? Is it a modulated sine through a waveshaper?

Thanks, if I remember correctly it is just a fast envelope into the cv, and another really fast one into the sync input to ensure the attack phase is consistent. Then sine output into the vca which was controlled by the first envelope.

Do I actually need a lot of LFO's to sequence all those things at once (because I read you need the square wave output of an LFO as a tempo source, no matter if you use sequencer A-155 or not)?

I'm asking because I'm planning my own modular system at the moment. How can I sequence so many things at once like you do? Do I only need enough sound sources like VCOs and Noise sources, or do I also have to make sure there are enough LFOs?

I'd be great if you could explain how you sequence all this

Hi, I am just using 1 LFO to clock the A-155, the A-155 is doing the bulk of the sequencing. I'd recommend at least 2 LFO's though, and at least 4 envelope generators.

Why would you recommend that many envelope generators? Currently I'm building a system of 3 rows, like your first system. I only planned two envelop generators so far, 1 for the filter/pitch and 1 for the Amp. Or do you think that won't be enough? How many things did you actually sequence at once in this track?

Also, am I right that the A-155 is only capable of sequencing 8 steps? Wouldn't you prefer 16? 8 steps seems to be...not enough somehow.

Envelopes can be used for lots of things, the A143-2 is 4 in one module and I would recommend it.

I was sequencing a bassline, kick, snare and hi-hat. You can do 16 steps with the A-155 by switching between the upper and lower row, using a voltage controlled switch.

Thanks so much once again for all the info...I see the A-154 (the sequencer controller) indeed has the 16-step switch you were talking about. But does module A-150 do the job as well (simple VC switch, nothing else)? It's cheaper and smaller...:)

No it is not necessary, but if you want precise notes it makes it easier.

Man...sooo many knobs to twiddle! Paradise. I would love to build a modular system somewhere down the line - are they easy enough to sync up really rightly with other digital gear for live performance? Keep on posting man.. :)

@siedgey Yeah there are tons of ways to integrate them with modern gear now, midi-cv or software. But be warned it is addictive :)
