@88BlackBird88 I am a volunteer, the truth is there are some remote places like islands that have usually hunters that treat their dogs badly or dont like the neighbour's dog and do sth awful.
but there are many many people that are actually trying very hard for every stray on the road. we have destroyed 3 illegal puppymills (at least that i know of ) the last 2 years, but illegal puppy mills aren't usual in Greece, thats why pet shops here import puppies from other countries' illegal puppymills!
@88BlackBird88 Also there are shelters for stray dogs and cats that are based totally on volunteer work and donation and dont get a nickel from the government although they should. Oh and there is no euthanizing animals that dont get adopted within a month or something. they keep them as long as they can and then, if not adopted, they place them back where they were found if its not a dangerous place, or find another close to a volunteer's home usually to keep an eye.
Can't believe some ignorant people saying Malamutes are 'fine' in such a hot country as Greece & not to shave them! They have thick coats for one reason SURVIVIAL IN SUB ZERO TEMPERATURES!!!
@lell010 Yes but shaving a winter breed can cause them to get suburns, psoriasis and even over heat and die aswell as permanent balding patches. Their fur while made for colder climates actually regulates their heat in hot weather they need it at all times. If you look up grooming care on most reputable dog care sites they say NEVER shave a winter dog it's very bad for their health. Though it does make sense to help them cool off, it does the opposite.
@lell010 dogs with a double coat should never shaved. The coat of these dogs work like isolation. Isolation works like this: On cold days it needs to keep cold outside your house. On warm days it needs to keep heat outside your house. With a dog it goes the same way. With warm wetter the fur will keep heat away and with cold weather it will keep cold away. And if you shave a coat like that it will never ever get his real coat back but a totally different fur. (except for the colors)
@sannetussch22 And like DrkAzmodaus the dogs could get sick because of it. You're messing up there immune system. :O (you could shave a dog when it has skin problems (with the advice of a vet).
Never shave a Malanute, or Husky for that matter! Their coats never grow in the same! Just keep grooming them. Their natural coats also insulate them from the heat! Even when they are panting on a hot day, just run your fingures thru their coat. They are cool underneath!
BALTO?!

You have a bad way to treat animals but I've seen that's normal in Greece.
You have several litters, puppies at all kinds of ages, locked in small kennels.
Here we call that a PUPPYMILL!
