I know this is old and you probably upgraded or are planning to upgrade to the Pre 3 (I know I am) but the battery is wiggly so just get some construction paper and pack it in there. helped my brother and his friend.

Old issue. This happened because the snap from closing the slider would cause a disconnection in the battery compartment. Recent phone have fixed this problem.

yes the battery is lose i added a little piece of paper between the battery and the little strip u pull so u can pull the battery out and it doesnt do it no more is easy as pie.

he couldnt prees the power button becuase the button is on the right side and he tapped the middle when he closed it..... it could have crash as a result to the update

or it could have crashed because of the new battery. if he has the slightly extended battery, which is highly likely, it will do that exact thing. its not crashing though. its the fact that the new battery is loose and loses its connection to the terminals. probably exactly what is happening to to you babygeo12

I purchased 2 Palm Pres LOVE EM! I watched this video and it is very clever and a great magic trick with the finger at the beginning of the video on the power button. I have owned my pres for about a month now. Will definitely tell you it's a better phone than any I have had in the past.

yea, i agree as well, i just rewatched the video after reading your comment and you are completely right, his finger was on the power button at the very begging, and all you'd have to do is time how long it takes for it to shut off, then slide down the pre and there ya go!

noo it is actually the battery that is lose... a screen pops up and asks you if you want it switch it to airplane mode,switch it off or cancel. that would of poped up if he was holding down the power buttom...

i just restarted my Pre, counted the seconds it took for it to actually shut off. it took it roughly the same amount of time it took for this guy's. i did it again just now trying to do the same thing he did, and all he would have had to do, is select shut down, and then wait around 3 to 4 seconds before closing it, and it would shut off. if you have a pre try it yourself, cause i just did twice.

well i dont want to argue im just saying the early versions of the pre had smaller batteries then the ones now and im guessing he had got the pre when they first launched by checking when this video was uploaded.. and yess i do have a pre and mine shuts off right when i tell it to turn off the power...

I heard the samething, that the phone crashes a lot. 1 person told me he took his back 5times & sprint wouldn't give him another type of phone. In my opinon ( I don't have the phone) sprint phones allways has somthing wong w/them sooner or later. I've been w/them for going on 4yrs & the 2 phones I've had theres always somthing wong. Why should I have to wedge a piece of paper beteewn the batery? unfinished phone....

iMaxwizzo, you're full of crap. No such report exists. I work for Sprint. The Palm Pre has less than a 2% return rate. The issue in the video above is the manufacturer's defect in the battery size. Palm's distributor for the Pre battery manufactured them the wrong size. The battery is just slightly too small. When the phone is closed, the battery slides away from the contacts. Wedge a small piece of paper in between the rounded end of the battery and the compartment. Problem solved.

Sucks that you had that issue. I updated the software on my as soon as the update came out which was the day I bought my pre but it worked fine on mine. Get a replacement.

I had that issue. It was due to a battery size issue. Took the phone in and replaced the battery (new battery that addresses the issue) and have not had that issue since (returned 2 weeks ago)

guys, guys, mine was doing the same thing it is no trick! I took it yesterday to sprint and 30 min. later they gave me a new one! I asked the rep what was wrong with it and he simply said it had a defect and that he was going to replace it for a new one. I aked no more. GO to them and they will look into it. just don't do what i did which is back up your info.

my pam pre has only crashed once, and that was before the 1.1 but ever since the crash every time i get a notification of a txt, email, voicemail, etc the bell that goes off when you get one is muffled sounding??? any help

The notification sound was changed in the 1.1 update. It sounds muffled now and sucks. It been talked about in the palm forums. Hopefully soon that will allow u to change it.

I have had this happen to me on other phones with slide out keyboards. It seems to be the battery shaking loose.

In this case I don't know. If it happened after a software update then it is unlikely to be related to the battery.
