Actually it was recorded with a little known guitar called the Fender Bass VI. It's not really a bass though; it's a baritone which is like a cross between a bass and a regular guitar. Those deep low mellow tones combined with the piano-like resonance offered by the Jazzmaster style bridge can produce some really beautiful sounds.

I want one, if you can't tell. But Fender doesn't make them anymore and they fetch a pretty penny nowadays.

Yup, thank you for this help! John Frusciante is really a God for me, and I know all the guitar he uses in the RHCP, but I didn't know he used a Fender Bass VI... So I seek in the Fender 60th Anniversary Magazine, and I found a Fender Bass VI !

@imatube2 Acctually, the Fender Bass VI is a bass, a 6-string bass. It has all the funtionality of a standard guitar just a full octave down.

@pimper92 I love frusciante. Ive been listening to him for years, but I dont think that not like to be famous makes you a better muscian. Only makes you a more honest person.

What Frusciante does different of every other guitar player/musican, is that he makes what he likes. He doesnt let himself get influenced/judged by others, and just lets the inspiration flow. Thats why his music is so pure. =)
